Jordan DeFigio, @fidgenewton SteelerNation.com The big news keeps on coming for the*Pittsburgh Steelers, as*Vance McDonald has officially announced his retirement this morning. Was a good team guy, apparently great in the community, but very much a disappointment as a promising free agent. Just never developed the chemistry with Ben. Pretty good blocker though.

I think it was injury more his undoing than chemistry IMO.

He was definitely injured. But he played enough. Had one good year. but once the receiver leaves the line its about his ability to get open and the chemistry between him and the QB. That isn't scheme or anything. I'm not ******** on the guy or anything, but he simply wasn't a big enough impact for the $. Is what it is. Not often you get a guy with that potential in his prime, and I guess you can see why.

McDonald and a fifth was traded for the Steelers fourth-round pick. I find your assessment of McDonald a bit odd. I can understand you believing his production did not match his price tag, but I don't understand the chemistry with Ben. His first year was obviously underwhelming, but he only started 7 games. His second season he was terrific with 50 receptions for 610 yards and 4 touchdowns and caught nearly 70% of his targets. That production was about the same as Heath Miller's career average per season. The next year Ben didn't play and our QBs were probably the worst in modern NFL history then he was relegated to a No. 2 option this year behind Ebron in an offense that handcuffed itself on a weekly basis.

Good luck Vance.

Hope he will be ok in retirement...he only make a little over 30 million in his 8 year career..

Im sure he was done though...especially after they signed that knucklehead Ebron..

The guy earned over 20 million dollars as a Steelers player and had one good year. WTF planet are some of you from. I'm not saying he wasn't a hard worker. Or that he wasn't a good teammate or he wasn't good in the community. But c'mon objectively he was pretty much a complete whiff as a signing. Lots of excuses, but DJ and Washington put up reasonable numbers without Ben. As to the injuries, the most important ability is availability.
He had under 1200 yards and 8 TD's in 4 years.

Did you even read my post?

1. I stated his production did not match his cost.
2. Never talked about his work ethic or fit in the locker room as a teammate.
3. Informed you he wasn't signed, but was traded for.
4. Jaylen Samuels also put up decent stats without Ben. They changed their offense to throwing to running backs and short routes to the receivers other than JuJu.

Finally, all I did was counter your point that he never developed chemistry with Ben. I disagree with that assessment. In his one healthy year with Ben he had a good season and showed good chemistry with him.

Enjoy retirement. Now we have another year of Ebron tweets...

I don't like Ebron or his tweets. And he is a liability as a blocker. Though that never changed much when Macdonald was in there this year. However, Ebron produced half of Macdonald's career as a Steeler this season alone. I wanted Macdonald to be good to great. He just wasn't. Did love the stiff arm run though.

Thank you Vance for you services. I will never forgot your stiff-arm of Chris Conte. One of the best ever. Enjoy retirement.
