UDFA thread

Not a single big body for DL?

Hargraves I like but not a NT, so we have McCullers...and maybe Alualu inside (also not a NT). Insert maybe 4-3 coming convo here haha.

Seriously though if we stay 3-4 a big body for some competition would make sense. I realize in today's NFL a 2 down player but you can't tell me we couldn't have flipped a 5-7 pick that way to compete for shade tree's spot or at a minimum brought in a UDFA with some size/power.

They're rarely in this formation anymore. You have to think of it in terms of the "sub" package.

When Watson got hurt, Schussler looked pretty good and the team I think actually played better with him at QB.

"Steelers turn down Jack Lambert Award winner as the nation’s top linebacker"

Not sure how the award gets won, but you have to wonder how the "top LB" goes undrafted....a few years ago, we DID draft the award winner. One Mr. Jarvis Jones.

well I guess you would have to find someone that handcrafting comes natural. Not a skill every Joe has mind you.Perhaps get your self a speed rotary tool kit if yinz a beginner.

Jack Ham, Andy Russell and Jack Lambert - fail the "measurables" test - nobody should ever draft them

Another post kept trying to change headscratcher to headscarves. Caught that one, at least.

Sure 3-4 is the sub package to our nickel which is our base (most played package). Still need an adequate big body for short yardage, goal line, running teams, etc.

We play Heyward and Tuitt too many snaps and they are gassed generating less pressure later in games and as the season wears on. So sure, nickel is our base and we did add Alualu, but either way I can't buy any argument which gives McCullers a pass to the 53 as the only big man on the DL or an argument where we don't need more DL to rotate these guys a bit to keep them fresher.

Tomlin is a believer in running players till the wheels fall off (RB and DL at least). So far this has killed us come playoff time regarding their availability. Just thinking maybe this year would be a nice year to hoist another Lombardi.

A true NT also keeps LBs clean to do their damage, so either switch to 4-3 personnel fully or get an effin legit big...quite simple way to improve a D.

Im sure Belicheck will grab him once we've cut him and he'll be all pro, for reasons cited by Cope

I would love to attach a lie detector test to that coach. And find out what he did then and what he is still doing. That would be the only way he gets his just due. A ban from the NFL.

Sith lords are experts in deception, a machine won't do

So lets say this again ..... udfas have to want to sign with you... its not you get whomever you want... so its possible many of the top guys are looking for an easy path to competing to start.

Let's welcome our newest QB!

Nick Schuessler signs as undrafted free agent

Schuessler was the backup quarterback to Deshaun Watson each of his final two seasons. He was 44-66 passing for 564 yards and three touchdowns in 212 snaps over 19 games in his career and completed 67 percent of his passes with a 150.4 pass efficiency rating.

In 2016, Schuessler completed 23 of 33 passes for 334 yards and three touchdowns (six games)

Love the optimism Spike, remember when we brought in Tannehill's backup, **** he made it all the way to the 3rd or 4th preseason game!

Maybe this kid can outlast Jerrod Johnson? (Think that was the past scrubs name)

I wish the camp arm the best, if he makes ps I'd be amazed...but stranger things have definitely happened. His limited time he had showed real good numbers, so there's that.

Flacco was Palko's backup, for what that's worth.

They won't keep 3 QBs on the roster and 1 on the practice squad. Clemson guy is just a (mini)camp arm - he might even be replaced before training camp.

I wanted to bring in Alek Torgersen (U. Penn) as a camp arm but he signed with the Atlanta Falcons. Not really sure why we brought in Nick Schuessler.

Well you need a couple arms to get through OTAs / rookie minicamp. We're not exactly a sweet landing spot for undrafted QBs given that we drafted one and have an established #2. As I said earlier, there won't even be a spot on the practice squad for QB. On top of that we probably told the guy that he has to drive himself to Pittsburgh and all he gets for his services is a hot ham and cheese sandwich.

He probably makes the PS to see if he can develop. 6-8 with 36" arms and a decent vertical would make him a nice red zone threat. Definitely going to need to put work in but can't teach a guy to be 6-8 with 36" arms. Hopefully he commits to learning NFL routes and to block better.
