Two plays from today's game can define the last (insert random timeline under Tomlin here) years for Mike Tomlin. Second quarter, Bears ball, 3rd and 5 from Chicago's 41 yard line, 47 seconds left. Get a stop here and the Bears don't get points before the half. Instead, the Defense lines up with the entire secondary 10-15 yards off the LOS. Easy pitch and catch for 10 yards and a Bears first down...

Second play, again it's the Bears ball, 3rd and goal on the one yard line. Bears lead by 3, VERY important down. Bears line up in shotgun formation, but again, they are on the ONE YARD LINE. We have TWO DL, which BOTH get double teamed. By the time the Linebackers even have time to react, all five Bears offensive linemen are in the endzone with the RB walking in easily.

Absolutely pathetic. It's not the players, it's not the talent, it's 100% the scheme. Both offensive and defensively. We aren't even going to get into Warren again being out snapped by Gainwell, or all the 3rd and long plays where we run short of the sticks and HOPE for a missed tackle. This game here, this specific game is the one this year that pissed me off the most.

Second week in a row the opposing teams defense is missing SEVERAL starters, and we can't move the ball. How do you not exploit the middle of the field. That's what Chicago did. They killed us on slants today. I didn't see one single slant from us at all today. Fire everyone, trade everyone, start from complete scratch...

I saw the 2 DL set other times in the game as well. It almost never works in their favor.

They run it almost exclusively as their base D. But on the goal line, in a goal to go situation...you should NEVER see a two DL. It's a guaranteed TD for the offense. If I was the opposing offense and saw that alignment, I don't care what the call was, I'm changing it to a run up the middle. As soon as I saw them line up I called it.

They gambled everything on it being a pass....which is dumb, but anyway.

And we are saving Warren for the lwoB repuS.

I’m more disappointed by the funk the offense went into in the second half averaging 6 yards per completion, 4.3 yards per attempt.

You can say Super Bowl the right way. A jinx won't be the reason we don't sniff the post season.

I have been crying about this for years now. 😢 Nothing ever changes. Add in another. 3rd and 10. Again our LBers drop 15 yard back into soft coverage and react to a throw that nets the Bears 9 yards. The Bears are at their 40 and go for it and easily get it.

It’s almost comical when you think about it. The stupid antiquated defensive schemes and alignments.
Couple that with the lack of adjustments, poor use of personnel, predictable defense, covering TEs with LBers, big cushions between defensive backs and receivers, 2 DL.
Tomlin is the chief architect of this total ******* mess and needs to be held accountable at seasons end. Will he? No,but he needs to be.
I’m sick of Art Rooney and his double talk bs every year as well.
Step down and let your son run things and hopefully he’ll want to forge his own path.
Unless he turns out to be an incompetent like his father.

You know what I’m tired of? People thinking that changing the QB is going to change the result.
Short term it can help squeeze out a win, long term probably not so much. I thought at times this team won in spite of spotty coaching. But yeah usually not sustainable. Not here under a broken scheme and X and O deficiencies.

But better to try and fail than to never try at all.

But more so in what the Steelers need to do is exhaust all their QB possibilities before they draft a new one with a high pick. That is a smart approach to empty out the closet to see what you have before purchasing more clothes.

You know leaving no rock unturned. Examine every blade of grass while we don’t live in our fears.

😅

Or RB or CB or OLman.... or Wr pick any position... the deficiencies are 1000% on tge head coaching philosophies...

The NFL is extremely reliant on scheme, technical play design, and technique... and we arent exactly great at any of that... right now our brilliant brain trust has a billion dollar defense that is in the bottom third of the league and an offense that thinks jumbo sets are the correct day to day identity in the modern NFL

Mike tomlin just should have been traded for several years now... Art is too scared to hire a new guy without his Dad's imput

Scared or just comfy in his pocket weight? A businessman content on regular seasons wins and a haute bank account. It isn’t broke in his eyes so don’t fix it is his approach…

This isn't even the first time it's happened this season. The Colts did this on a goal-to-go situation and scored a TD. The Steelers stuffed them on third down with all their big guys on the field and then trotted them off the field, playing right into the Colts' hands. Don't play the personnel, play the situation.

2 plays for me are the dropped int or the illegal formation after Rudolphs big run

Those are bad plays that definitely changed THIS game, but the two plays I pointed our are staples in the Mike Tomlin resume. We see them year after year, in crucial moments...And players are starting to say things. Queen admitted that the issues are schematic.

One more thing I should have mentioned in the OP, can anyone else predict what we will do after a penalty or sack on first down that puts us in a 2nd and longer than 10?

I'm so tired of Tomlin. Sorry but I didn't watch. I could feel it coming. He just doesn't get it
But if I don't watch then I can't come here and complain. :D

Steelers aren't a serious organization anymore. They just show up and whatever happens happens.
They obviously aren't trying any longer. They know what the problems are but don't care to make the changes that are needed. Getting a new QB or position additions are just a band-aid on a gushing head wound.

They know as well as us that 3 yard passes aren't going to make the team winners. After 5 or more years of that crap it's obvious they're fine with a barely winning season and a playoff loss.

Biggest gripe is Replay.

Why have this feature of the NFL isn't going to use it to help the game and brand???

Gainwell makes a great run up the left side of the field and is CLEARLY tackled by his helmet - guess what - face mask missed.

You cannot challenge it.

I'm not making excuses for anyone but horrible officiating needs to be penalized...

That's a staple in the Mike Tomlin Dollar General version on the Tampa 2. The year we lost to Cleveland in the playoffs, they had a great Oline and great running game, so obviously a great running team and we were in 2 DL on their first 4 offensive TD's.

28 points was the fourth highest scoring total prior to the late game yesterday…all 3 teams scoring more than the Steelers 28 won their respective games (including the Bears at 31)

With such an investment on D if you can’t win with 28 points there is a fundamental issue with how and where the money is being spent.

28 should be a win every damn week…sure the offense was definitely in a funk 2nd half with no flow to the play calls, receivers lacking separation, poor blocking up front and missed deep balls by Rudy BUT 28 should be a winning total.

This was a solid team loss by a **** HC, **** defense and sputtering offense…even the STs contributed some suck

If the defender was grabbing the back of the helmet that’s not a facemask penalty.

Because the facemask is on the front of the helmet, covering the, uh you know…face.

OK. Good talk.

Part of the horrible officiating is it allows easier “fix” of the game.

The NFL could have the best ever, top notch refs…….. but how would they control things then?

Scores and outcomes are all betting manipulation strategies. YES, obviously manipulation happens.
