Tuzar Skipper Making Serious Case to Be On Final Roster

Apparently I missed one, he actually had 2 sacks tonight. 5 in 4 games...

There's room on the roster to carry 10 LBs. It means going 3 RB and 8 OL. With 9 OL, one would be a game day inactive anyway. And on RB, I'm not including the FB position in that 3. Nix is on the team regardless. RBs will be Connor, Samuels, and Snell. They've done this type of thing before. Position groups that are typically set in stone, numbers wise are:
QB - 3
CB - 6
DL - 6
TE - 3

Not sure if they've ever gone 5 WR instead of 6 during the Tomlin era, but OL and LB have been fluid in their numbers before.

I think this kid could be the real deal.

IMO he's gotta make the 53.

Agreed, seems to be around the football whether he was at OLB or on ST like last night. Kid is a straight football player, one of those who slipped through the cracks because muh measurables. Skipper is a guy who when he gets that opportunity, he won't let go of it

I have a feeling they will try to PS him... even if they don’t he will be treated like Matthew Thomas last year... never really get a shot then waive him later when they need another position... it seems like they rarely do give more than one young guy a shot per position. And with how Tomlin spoke of Gilbert last night he is ahead of Skipper in the pecking order....

Speaking of Thomas he is a Ufa again, huh? I wonder if he burned bridges jumping to the Ravens like that?

I think Thomas carried his speed and physicality as far as it could take him, much like Howard Jones a couple of years ago. I think the difference with UG3 and Skipper is they are showing that they have some above the neck attributes that will make them stick around.

Skipper is definitely eye candy for several teams around the league (NE is probably one of them). If he is cut, he will be picked up within 1 minute. I feel the same can be said of Gilbert. I hate the thought of Tomlin keeping Chick and Dirty Red because they are veterans and losing these two guys with such huge up-side. Guess we will see soon!

Tuzar and UG3 are just far better athletes than Dirty Red and Chick. I really like both of them but there is far, far, far, more upside with Tuzar and UG3. You give your team the best chance to win and you do that with superior athletes. I have little doubt watching both of these young men that they will be super on special teams as well. You keep both.

Agree (especially Skipper being picked up) but Gilbert isn't in any danger of being cut IMO. I just hope they keep both.

Nice, UG3. I hope he sticks around the Steelers for a long time and that name sticks as well.

I think we already have seen the ceiling for dirty Red and Chick. Perhaps it's time for a change.

Said it in multiple threads - Skipper is waaaaay better than Chickillo.

Simple math. Cut Chick. Add Skip.

BINGO Bermuda! Chick is ridiculously overrated. He offers ZERO on defense. And I'm not seeing this "He's a special teams demon" crap either. He's OK on special teams, not great. Hell, Dirty Red is better. Chick is a total waste of a roster spot.

I am rooting for the Steelers to keep both

[For you reading-challenged, the first picture is of the Homer character Odysseus, called "Ulysses" in Latin and many English translations. If in fact you are one of the reading-challenged, you probably get the second one without my help.]

These decisions will show us weather Tomlin prefers the status quo or if he looks for continuous improvement..

I really was impressed with Tuzar in the pre-season. I don't think the Steelers will be able to sneak this kid to the Practice Squad....he's made too much noise so far. He has very good upside and if you know the path this kid has been dealt living from Foster Home to Foster Home he has himself of the brink of making an NFL roster. That alone is incredible!

You can't try to get a guy who was that productive on your practice squad. Teams crave pass rushers and even if he isn't ready to contribute this year, there will be plenty of suitors ready to give Skipper a chance.

Our eyes are not lying to us. Yes he has looked better than any OLBer not named Watt or Dupree. Why is there even a discussion? To hell with ST play. You gonna cut possibly a future pro-bowler over special teams? This is not a hard decision at all...The same goes for Gilbert. They need to make the team outright..
