And here is my real concern about letting Skipper go - pass rushing is a skill that can be seen against good, bad and indifferent competition. Speed to the corner, the turn, body bend, the correct angle to the QB, the feel for continuing upfield when the QB climbs the pocket. Some guys have that skill. Skipper looked like he had that skill. He got to the corner NOW, turned the corner, had very good bend, a good feel for where the QB was.

Will a top-end tackle nullify him? Sure, maybe.

But one ******* thing we know as sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west: Durpee does not have those pass rushing skills. He speed rushes without effect, is absolutely stoned on his bull rush. He is not improving. He is who he is, and that is NOT a good pass rusher.

Dupree has pedigree

And that is very important in this environment, if you will, so to speak.

They wont allow an undrafted player to show up their picks and prove just how bad they really draft on defense, yinzers might stop drinking the kool-aid

******* typical Steelers arrogance, let a guy walk that shows any spark at all over Tomlins pets

Why should a guy who doesn't produce (Chickillo) worry about stepping up when he doesn't get beat out by a guy who does (Skipper). Insert any two players where an unheralded guy outplayed a veteran.

Comparison of Skippers.

Guy Steelers released, blowing past offensive tackle for sack, forced fumble and turnover.

1 Game

We are 1 game into this season and I'm already in mid-season form in my disgust for Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert. They have no business being intros business. Their roster management ideas have no ideas. The steelers are run by a group with ignorance only matched by their arrogance.

45 years of watching this team at an unhealthy level and I just don't give a **** anymore. Is it Tuzar Skipper? No. It's 10 years of watching a slow train wreck repeat itself.

Oh yeah, and 20 years of watching Tom Brady throw 8 yard crossing routes to a wide receiver matched up against a Steelers linebacker. Ignorance and arrogance.

I'm speechless. Can this clown get any dumber? It's outrageous. He's the Joe Biden of the NFL.

I'm starting to feel bad for Chickillo. He represents everything that pisses me off about the Steelers right now. He should never have been kept on the 53 to begin with, they played with fire and now lost Skipper. Don't know if it's Tomlin or Colbert or both, but they've gotta start taking a more honest assessment of the veteran talent on this squad. Most of it, sadly, is replacement level.

That's just it Tibs, is this current coaching staff able to evaluate proper talent. It seems they have big issues unless a diamond falls into their lap. Cowher was WAY better at talent evaluation than current regime. Does our scouting department need up graded? Is TOMLIN's eye evaluation poor or does he just go with what he heard and is feed about certain player?

What ever the approach is it isn't working and Tomlin is the constant and head coach responsible for everything except management.

Salute the nation

Maybe Art Rooney II, the owner who gave Tomlin an extension could trade places and run A race track and let one of his smarter siblings take over as majority owner of the Steelers.

It dawned upon me he’s our biggest problem as Tomlin will never be fired as long as he’s the majority owner.

Oh he’s smart enough coach. He’s making a hell of a lot of money owning one of 32 NFL franchises along with the families many other interests.
What Art is not unlike his father and grandfather is nearly as passionate about the team and it’s legacy. Art is strictly a businessman and nothing more. He views Tomlin as successful and bases that on won loss record winning percentage but doesn’t look at 3 playoff wins in the last 9 years. Most owners would have long ago fired Tomless. Hell, look at Mike McCarthy very similar record who even beat Tomless in SB but got the boot.
Art thinks all is well and he’s happy to have Tomless.

I wonder when the Steelers found out?.....was the 5th round draft pick we got for Dobbs worth carrying 3 QB's on Week 1 and losing Skipper.

We lost out on the playoffs last year because of irrational decision making by the head coach concerning Dobbs. The ******* post season.

It looks like we lost Skipper because of the same thing. Irrational decision making in the form of roster management one week into the season just prior to the first game. They thought that they would pull a fast one.

I can only wonder if an adult in the room decided to trade away the bright shiny object of Tomlin's fascination before it caused any more damage to the team.

Ask THAT question at the Tuesday presser!

I ******* hate Tomlin right now. He had so many other easy choices that wouldn't have been TOUCHED by another team, but he goes and does this ****.

I have hated Tomlin for years, he is just not very bright and way too in love with his bullshitting self. He has no fear he will be fired .

They are playing with a window as big as Ben's contract. I am not sure if we have anyone signed beyond that. I would assume they will sign JuJu and Connor when their rookie contracts are up but who knows about everyone else. That's why not keeping good young talent makes even less sense. There is no upside to keeping Chicklo or even Dirty Red or even Big Dan. I'd keep the young guys since it appears all of these veteran guys very well may be gone in a couple years anyway and provide no value on the field now. Chicklo was terrible when I saw him in the game against the Cheats. And, they brought up Holton and had him play ahead of Washington for some dumbass reason.

Harp on Dupree all you want, didn't see TJ doing anything this game, where was Cam, Tuitt, etc? The whole defense sucked top to bottom, I blame Keith Butler.

The D front had no chance to do anything in that game. The Cheats receivers were so wide open (short and long), Marsha got the ball out so quickly, they never had a chance to really put pressure on them. I don't think we even touched him until well into the 2nd quarter. You can blame it on the D line but the Cheats didn't even try to run the ball and just threw short, quick passes almost exclusively like they have done so many times in the past. The entire D just looked clueless for some reason.

And, if someone says it was a communication issue one damn more time, Tomlin better be ******* fired! I said it in another thread and I'll say it again. LeBeau had a difficult D to learn and everyone knew that but after a couple years, the players knew the D and played it well. After 4 years (or whatever it's been) of Butler fronting for Tomlin actually running the D, all we ever hear is it was due to poor ******* communication. Good, sound D is not hard to teach and not hard to run yet under this regime, they just can't seem to do it. Tomlin will fire Butler some day as his scapegoat but nothing will change on D unless Tomlin stays the **** out of it.

Can hardly wait for the Tomlin presser, where he gives kudos to Dupree for his ability to "hold the edge," while forgetting to mention he was "holding the edge" on 36 pass attempts while not getting remotely close to the QB and while being absolutely stoned by a guy playing his first NFL game.

Yet ended up with the only sack in the game and 2 TFL and, I believe, a QB hit.

Tibs, T.J. was double teamed most of the night where Dupree was not. The rookie tackle was able to handle Bud all by his lonesome. Just sayin’.

Gentry was the choice to waive. No one wants him and he was inactive. Skipper had promise, but so does Gilbert and Ola (who are both rightfully above him). I just don't know why Chickillo has a roster spot. That guy does less than nothing...
