Tuitt and Decastro restructure

We went up $12M the last 2 seasons. I say we go up $12-$14M this year.

Shazier retiring clears $8M. I expect this move in the next 3 weeks.

I have seen a few places that say we are just as likely to extend him and give him some more upfront money and then be able to spread the hit out just to do the right thing and supposedly it helps our cap more this year but then brings pain down the road.

You extend him he gets some cash right now in his pocket. I am sure he could use it at this point.

You have to do something with his contract. That is a definite. I personally don't invest $8M in a player that can't walk. It's a tough business decision, but it is the right one. Restructuring is an option, but it's kicking more dead money down the road.

I believe retiring is the only loophole available to eliminate the $8M and it would be an extremely smart cap move. If I owned the team, I give him a $10M 8yr ambassador contract, so he still gets every dime he was expecting, and it's all off of the cap. On the off chance, he ever returns to play football again, the Steelers retain his rights. They did the same with Harrison, and he came back to play for us. Then you redo his ambassador contract and sign him to an actual players contract.

It's a win-win all the way around, and would be the classy way to handle this tragic situation.
