If you think we're going to miss Troy's leadership, you are mistaken. He did nothing last year but yell at his teammates and complain about the defense. We will miss Troy's play making ability. We will not miss his leadership.

Burmuda your right but if you think that older players don't coach as well your wrong. Troy is a wealth of knowledge and an asset to any coach. Your right it is the coaches job just is nice to be able to have a guy with all the experience Troy has there as well. Maybe I am just trying to hold on and not see the end of Troy. :-(
We already have been missing this part. Gotta know when to walk away, that's it.
We've seen may legends go after long successful careers here. Isn't the first time nor the last. Never easy.
I tend to agree. Troy has never been much of a leader other than by example. He has taken some under his wing (Shamarko) but has never been a big vocal leader in the locker room.

I can hear it now..... that in about 7-8 months after we release Troy, somebody (two folks already on this thread) will throw **** at the head coach about "see, i blame this on Tomlin...he forced LeBeau out and he was instrumental in kickin Troy out the franchise....."

I see that the Colts have eased Reggie Wayne out the door. It's tough, but it happens every year all over the league. Great players reach the end of the road. Some go on their own, but others have to be given a nudge.
I hope that Troy returns for one more season at a reduced contract price. He would be a superb dime back, player-coach, and leader for a team that will be pretty young next season.

Dejan Kovacevic wrote about this topic in his Friday Insider. Basically said that Troy wasn't thrilled with the attitude of some of the younger players and that they didn't live up to the Steelers way and wasn't impressed with how Tomlin handled it.

Troy is smart enough to hear the bellow. He will probably retire, or move onto a team that will play us, this year. He doesn't seem like a vendictive person, but I'd think he wants to prove a point. I wonder if the STEELERS actually have called him or did he find this news out by reading the headlines / internet? Thus the possibility of signing w/team that plays us. I would hope the organization has given troy an option of retire or sign for one more season. Troy would need to know he is NOT the starter and what his role would be. Ironicly, as us minions talk of this, the fact remains, he is still the best SS on the team. Things can happen between now and TC, but what ever happens, i do hope it is amecable between the two parties.

I will be sad to see Troy go, great player in decline. As to the Tomlin Bitchfest there will be the same ones posting on here that think coach Tomlin can do no wrong. Coach 8 and 8 will still not have had a losing season and will be such an improvement over Chuck and Bill, I can here the hog washing now.

I really don't have a lot of sadness when a veteran finally leaves.
It's inevitable. Part of life and growing old. For those young people on this board, it's much more depressing when the players you watched actually start to die of old age then it is for them to retire.
I have two Steelers jerseys in my closet and one is Polamalu. It was a privilege to watch him play... especially at his highest level. The interceptions against San Diego and Tennessee will forever be burned into my brain as inhuman plays. So will the non-interception against Indianapolis.
If he wants to play one more year or two more years, I say go find the most money. If a team is willing to pay you more than you are worth on the field, go for it. I hold no ill-will. I hold no animosity or vendetta or have some insane idea of loyalty at playing for only one team in your career.
I HOPE Tennessee and Whiz and Lebeau have so much money to pay him $4 million or $5 million this season. If that's what Polamalu wants as a retirement gift, go get it. I'm glad that option exists.
But the truth is, for the Steelers, we can't be the best team we can be and pay him that. We can't plan and evaluate what's next at that position and let him milk some final money from his career. No hard feelings. No regrets.
The door should always be open in this organization for Polamalu. Just not as a player at $6 million salary for the 2015 season. He is a hall-of-fame player and forever a Pittsburgh Steeler. And that will be no matter what happens this year.

Thankful he was a Steeler, thankful for all of the great plays he made, thankful for all of the contributions he made to the team and the city, but it is time. He probably should have retired a year ago.
