It was one game against one of the worst defenses in the league, against the backup's backups no less. Tampa is still weighed down with dead cap money from the SB team, with only a few still left on the roster and they didn't play. Yes, KP and company did well in the first series, and that should be expected against the likes of Tampa. For Mitch to do as poorly as he did and for Tomlin to pull him as quickly as he did tells me the performance was to be expected. Mitch's demeanor to me, and I've coached and been around people who just didn't want to be "there", doesn't want to be there. He went 1 of 4 for 10 yards and that hail marry of an interception isn't thrown by a veteran QB in that situation.

I said it before and I will say it again. We never should have extended Mitch. That was a huge mistake by Khan. He hasn't made many but that was a horrible decision. I would have cut him or made him play out this years deal.
And again and again and again. But still not a horrible mistake. You would have cut a better QB to keep a lesser one that you have an odd passion for.

Yeah I am so so so glad you aren't or will never be our GM. Thank goodness for that. Whew.

Thank you. Close thread...
You would think but this dead horse doesn't seem quite done yet. Someone will be jisming in their pants to preseason highlights long after Rudy the Red Nosed third stringer is retired.

Hey I think Mason is every bit as good as some of those backup qbs in the league right now… much better than some of em.. but he is also not going to be here next year. … Mitch is here for multiple years…he is going to be the backup…. Not just because of his backup ability, but also because he can mentor pickett in development and warn him of issues that come with being a highly drafted qb

We really want Mitch or Mason mentoring Kenny? Just kidding of course. Well maybe. 🤭🤔

Its a horrible mistake if youre counting money. Steelers dont seem to be doing that, post Ben. Lesser one? How much lesser we talking? I dont see it.

Put Rudy back under C against an NFL defense inseason where his immobility and lack of tight windows throwing inability and you would see how much less. The only thing I feel the guy has going for him is his ability to push the ball down the field. I feel any significant time frame on the field you would clearly see the difference. For our team I hope we don't get to test either of our opinions...

It wasn't a "hail marry" type of interception, it was a ball thrown 34 yards downfield on first-and-ten with 12 minutes left in the second quarter. Yes, it was slightly underthrown, but the defender made a better play on the ball than White did. And as Troglodyte correctly pointed out, if that catch is made, Trubisky's stat line is vastly different.

And given such a small sample in the first preseason game, I believe that people writing articles and/or freaking out about there being a second-string quarterback controversy are simply not very bright individuals.

So it is now basically Pickett vs Mason for the number one spot. With Tribisky trailing way behind as the third QB and possibly could be fighting Morgan for a PS spot. Amazing how the first preseason game can shake things up.....now lets talk about Harris vs Warren....throw that Bell guy......hmmmmm. 🤪

The circumstances of PITTSBURGH has been what kept Rudy in the NFL for as long as he has been here.

Even when they signed Mitch (1st time) I still thought Rudy had an honest shot at being the starter………..

U-N-T-I-L

The PITT Panther kid fell to us in the first round, that was when Rudy’s time became small. Mason Rudolf would probably NOT be in any training camp had the STEELERS not signed him.

I didn’t see any “rushing” to sign him when PITTSBURGH waved him. I also don’t have any sympathy for how things played out for him,…. It’s A Business, remember……!!!

I’m glad he is our back-up and good depth for what we are paying him and position he plays.
