Again we ran a lot of 2DL-4LB-5DB's on defense, I think this has been contributing to
us allowing long drives and time of possession. On run plays we have Tuitt and Heyward inside, then that leaves 3 big OL blocking our 230-240lb LB's and just getting pushed around.
Cincy has much better RB's than Baltimore and Cleveland, and we struggled at times stopping their RB's

that may have been mostly due to Cleveland playing from behind and throwing more often.

My beef with the defense is we've forgotten how to tackle. I counted endless missed tackles the past 2 weeks. It is heartbreaking when a WR catches the ball 3 yards shy of the 1st down on 3rd down, and we have one or two defenders there to make the tackle & force 4th down, only to see them whiff.

In the old days, you KNEW that this defense would bring them down before the 1st down marker.

butler after the year needs to scrap lots of things invented or still in place that DL created or are still in the playbook, 2-4-5 should be ocassionly a 4-3-4 4-1-5 3-3-5 all are formations where if a power rb like crowell is running behind thomas and mack we will not see guys like Dupree and Shazier get washed away you put Mcullers at nt and tuitt and heyward a little closer in between the rt and rg.

we should add in the draft mid rounds a long de that can play the run and rush like a carlos dunlap, willis gilisbury, tall rangy DE, that can penetrate the pocket and stuff the run to. The difference why the 2-4-5 sucks now vs say 08 is the personell back then you had
Kirskske and Hoke as your 2 interior dl that were just assigned to push the pocked up, you hada younger and quicker harrison, a beast in woodley, who was as good as a rusher as he was able to break run plays for losses as he was quick massive strong, then you had a smart savy vet run stiffer in farrior who closed in well, rarley missed tackles, and next to him they would rotate foote and timmons, and both were teamed up with a 6 man rush of the 2 dl, woodley, harrison woodley and the cross blitz could wreak havoc.

Perhaps LD walton and Geathers if brought back will surprise us, I would really like to see a more mix of the 4-3 than I saw this, that scheme our top D players can thrive in tuitt heyhard can easily play ng or the under dt spot and shazier in a 4-3 you can line him him up anywhere.

Another thing it has not been this past month, last week and yesterday we saw CB's coming from the corner blitz, last week boyken, and gay a few times yesterday, blake and fallen alot, seems butler only likes to blitz allen often from these DB's.

My beef with the D is that we live and die by the turnover but then play CBs 10 yards off the ball.

oh, but when a WR catches a ball on 3rd down, then gets 7 yards past the 1st down marker, they get popped and our glorious DBs then prance around like they just knocked out Mike Tyson.

that may have been mostly due to Cleveland playing froom behind and throwing more often.

We did a lot if it vs Baltimore, including the final drive when we knew Baltimore would be running to burn clock. Yesterday vs the browns they were only down 14-9 and they held the ball for almost 11 mins in the second quarter.

We just seem to use that D formation at the wrong times

I have been saying this for at least 6 or 8 weeks now. 2 linemen does not work in this league. You are way undersized. The only thought is that they might think speed will win the battles but that has not proven to be true.

That hybrid of 2 dlineman 2 standup blitzers just suks suks suks. You have to give you defense the chance to win the line of scrimmage. I would love to see tuitt and heyward have the chance to line up in the old steel curtain 4 man line with a "steeler" stunt made famous by hall of famer Ernie shatner, but it's never going to happen. It's not fancy enough not enough faking and stupid **** like that.

I agree about what coryea said about our formation. It just isn't working, especially when teams start running the ball. The tackling is a league-wide issue and it is what it is. The only bright side of the defense is the ability to pressure the quarterback when they blitz and to force turnovers. If they can bring that type of aggressive attack, I'll feel better about our chances.

Stop playing zone, we suck at it.

Get Blake off the field.

Keep blitzing.
