And if they just wanted to be left alone in their chosen lifestyle as a consenting adult, very few people would care, but many of them feel the need to involve children in their turpitude.

If a writer in a crime drama that you're hooked on watching suddenly decides, for no good reason, to make half the cast ghey, you can always turn it off. The kids in this case are a captive audience, apparently with the full support of Mom and Dad, and certainly the school and teachers.
