I don't know your deal but I was self-employed at the time and my daughter got a paycheck from my company every week such that her net pay was 25% of her monthly tuition and deposited into a joint checking account.
She did work for me occasionally, along with 20 other people. Therefore her tuition was essentially tax deductible.
My accountant assured me that as long I was withholding the appropriate taxes and insurance (I did) it was perfectly legal.
Where self-employed people get into trouble is giving their kids a 1099 and not paying taxes.
