Why don't they just eliminate the kickoff if they don't want people returning kicks?

What's next, the ball is dead, just like a punt? How about giving the kicking team a point if they can put one through the uprights?

WTF.

If this was their intent, it may backfire. Now instead of kickers drilling it deep into if not out of the endzone, I think more teams will try to get air under it and drop it between the goal line and 5. Making it a gamble you can stop the returner short of the 25, as opposed to giving it to them there.

Moving it to the 25 defeats the purpose of them trying to eliminate kickoff returns. This is as dumb as it gets. As Steelerfreak said, some teams, especially the Steelers if they don't keep Boz, will kick it inside the 10 and have teams run it back. This one is a head scratcher. Obviously they are trying to get more points scored but they are going against player safety the way I see it.

That rule change in itself would have EXTENDED Dri Archer's career. We as STEELERS fans should be humbled as to how many rules changes were due to a certain STEELERS player. Live on Dri,........Live on

Salute the nation

Well, eliminating kick-offs means also eliminating the on-side kick which is a useful part of the game. Moving it to the 25 hasn't hurt the college game and it won't hurt the NFL either. "pooch-kicking" the ball is still a gamble as the ball can still bounce into the end zone (more often than not)...and you'll still have knuckleheads try to return it from 8-yards deep...

Will it eliminate some returns? Yep...will it ruin the game? Nah. If I were a coach, I'd tell my kicker to boom it out of the end zone and eliminate the possibility of a return...

No point in having specialized kick returners. I have good hands. I can catch a football and take a knee. I'll do it for getting to be on the team. no pay required.

his career is still alive

for now

So now that we FINALLY have a kicker who can kick out the back of the end zone . . .bah, the game wasn't broke until they tried to fix it!

Here is an idea I heard on NFL radio's Moving the Chains today: if the concern is injury why not have the kickoff be a free kick from the 45 yard line. All players (except 1 returner) must line up on the line of scrimmage. If you want to do an on-sides kick then you can kick from a tee, but no faking, you must do the on-sides kick.

Anyone returning one from 7 yards deep in the endzone and not reaching the 25 should get shot by a sniper upon his exit from the field.

So, what i wrote above i heard on the way to work. I heard the 2nd hour on the way home and it evolved into this: Kicking team punts the ball from their 40 yard line. Regular punt, not a free kick, meaning the punt could actually be blocked. The kicking team could also run a fake. If a fake is ran, they HAVE to gain 10 yards to get the ball back.

It should be on the kicking teams 25. That will eliminate trackbacks.

Ditto this is exactly what I was telling my dad yesterday.

Yeah, I like some version of this rule but placing it on the 35 and either allowing a punt, a fake punt, or essentially a sudden death 4th and 15 type play.

I line Ben up for all "punt offs" and fake 50+% of the time, then 5 wide *******!!!

Let's go for 8 every time while were at it
