Top 5 Pick

This would be the worst year ever to have a top 5 pick. We need to be top 5 when there are actually good QBs coming out.

Of the eight teams still alive in the playoffs, how many are being QB’d by a top 5 pick?

The Steelers find STUD WRs in the later rounds like their families' lives depend on it.
ZERO reason to spend a 1st round pick on a WR.
We also would not spend a 1st round pick on a QB with Ben now extending and Rudolph just picked last year.
Our offense showed it's more than capable of playing without Bell and with Conner/Samuels.
JuJu would take over as the 1, someone will step up as the 2 ( Washington? ), and they'll draft yet another mid round gem at WR.

No, our defense is where we have the MOST issues.
Great, Peezy is out as LB coach, but now Butler needs to go, too.
And we are in SERIOUS need of LB and Secondary help.
We LOAD UP in the draft on D.
Whether we traded AB or not. No matter where we're picking at.
D should be drafted early and often.

I'm usually best player available regardless of position, but I gotta believe enough D players in this year's draft will be "close enough".

What a mock draft would look like if the Steelers traded Antonio Brown

What a mock draft would look like if the Steelers traded Antonio Brown. Here are two using Walter Football most recent mock draft to pick where the players fall. Of course, as we learn more from the college all-star games/practices and combine/pro days, things can change quickly.

http://walterfootball.com/draft2019charlie.php

Scenario #1 Steelers trade Brown for 49ers or Jets for their first round pick ( #2 or #3 overall )

Pick # 2 or 3 overall. Steelers select OLB Josh Allen. Allen's production in the SEC is incredible, and we saw him destroy Penn State lately. I have seen Allen play. He's a force of nature and has a chance to be a Von Miller type of player.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/josh-allen-6.html

Pick #20 Steelers select WR A.J. Brown. Just give him AB's locker. Brown had to back to back 1,000 yards season in the SEC, working with just an okay QB, and had an impressive yards per catch. I have a hunch he goes before pick #20.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/aj-brown-3.html

Pick # 52 CB Amani Oruwariye. Oruwariye needs some polish from what I have seen, but the value here would be tremendous. My hunch is he's off the board before we pick in round two. A long-term starter is needed at cornerback. Haden might only have 2-3 more good years and we are starting a journeyman on the other side.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/amani-oruwariye-1.html

Pick # 83 DB Joejuan Williams. I'd like to try him at free safety. Another very productive player in the SEC

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/joejuan-williams-1.html

A draft like this would be outstanding, I think! Free agency would need to upgrade us at ILB.

Scenario #2, Steelers trade Brown to the Raiders for their two of their first round picks in the playoff spots.

Pick #25* ( Playoff pick, might be later ) S Juan Thornhill. A tall safety with a radar-like sense and ball skills is exactly what the Steelers need. Very active as a tackler too.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/juan-thornhill-1.html

Pick #27* ( Playoff pick, could be later ) CB Amani Oruwariye. Oruwariye needs some polish from what I have seen, but the need is clear at Cornerback.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/amani-oruwariye-1.html

Pick #52. ILB D'Andre Walker. Big, rangy and can hit. Good on the blitz, can't be worse in coverage than Bostic or Williams.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/dandre-walker-1.html

Pick # 83 OLB Kenny Willekes. A backup plan For Bud Dupree is needed.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/kenny-willekes-1.html

AB has higher value to a playoff contender because he could be the piece that puts them over the top to win Super Bowl.
The Colts and Chargers would be dumb not to give up their next two #1's to get AB. Just think what Luck would do with
both AB and Hilton.

Steelers will not trade AB if they don't get two #1's or a very high #1 and low #2.

AB might be a diva, but he loves reaching his stats. Anywhere he plays, the team will get production out of him.

Good thought process Coach but, like you said, there is a LOT that can/will happen between now and actual draft day.

Salute the nation

They will definitely get a 1st for him, he is way better than the receiver the Patriots traded last year and they got a 1.

I hope they don't draft a receiver in the 1st round, most of them don't pan out.

Right. The only player I'm saying is going to be a good one is Allen.

WR's and DB's need to prove their abilities at the combine or all star games. If the WR's or DBs I named are on the slower side, I don't want them in round one or two.

Here's nearly 4 minutes on AJ Brown. There are too many play action clips here, but Brown seems to have moves in the open field, be able to catch 50/50 type of balls very well, and enough speed to beat the DB's. He was likely a marked man on an Ole Miss team that was 1-7 in the SEC. I'd like to see him more on quick outs, quick slants, come backs, and such.

Here are my thoughts about a Brown trade. Steelers aren’t gonna give up 21 million for nothing. Either they get multiple picks or a very high first round.
Jets are a good fit because they have cap space and a huge need. But are they interested?
49ers are a maybe because they have a young qb and receivers but I somehow doubt they would be overly interested.
My thoughts are the cardinals (2nd round not first) and maybe a 4th this year and a conditional 2020 first or second.
Panthers have a midround first so with that a combination of 2019 and 2020 picks it could easily be worked out. Maybe 1st and 4th this year with a conditional 3rd next year.
Packers are another option. Cobb is likely a cap casualty and Adams is the only option at this point. Maybe give Rodgers a true number one for the last few years of his career.
My wildcard would be the raiders. They have a ton of picks and Gruden does whatever he wants it seems like.

It is my personal opinion, but I am not sure where you get that I am projecting. I am certainly disagreeing. Look, I just don't think a team gives up a top 5 pick. I don't think I have written anywhere that he isn't talented, and whether or not he is the best WR is a matter of debate. In my opinion he is, but there are guys out there that most would think are every bit as good if not better than AB.

I think AB is worth a #1 and more. I just don't think another team is going to give that kind of draft capital away on a guy that quit on his team. He's one little spat with a teammate from quitting on his next team, especially if the QB sucks and can't get him the ball. Teams that are picking in the top 5 are picking there for a reason. They have needs, and those needs aren't necessarily a malcontent WR, regardless of how great he is.

If the Steelers can get a top 5 pick for AB, more power to them. I don't think they can, and I am not 100% certain they can get a first. I think most people are just a little overly excited over AB sending emoji's to George Kittle over Instagram or twitter or whatever. I know the Niners pick in the top 5, 2nd or 3rd, so I get it. I just think folks might be setting themselves up for disappointment if a top 5 pick or even a 1st rounder doesn't come to pass.

AB is a generational talent and wouldn't at all be surprised with a team giving up a top 5 pick for AB. Cooper, a very good receiver is not in the same league as AB as a player. There are GM's and owners that are salivating over the possibility of their QB throwing passes to AB. He's like the Kalil Mack on defense that are game changers and you saw what the Bears gave up for him. AB is an extremely hard worker who soon to be 31 will play at a high level for the next 4-5 years. Oh, I think the Steelers are just going to sit back and see what the interest is and if there is a top 5 pick or a couple first rounders, he's gone.

Ed Oliver - fit your scheme around him. Grab the best ILB/CB available at 20.
Hopefully we have nabbed a decent FA WR and draft another in rd 2.

This is my thinking as well. A top-5 pick? I doubt we get that. However, why on earth would you not trade for AB if you were the Panthers, Packers, Raiders, Redskins, Seahawks for you mid-1st round
pick? You are talking about an all-pro for the next 3-4 years with a good contract. Even with Brown being a headache, it would be worth it most of these teams.
Can you imagine Rodgers throwing to AB? Geez...

Cobb wouldn't be a bad pickup for us if AB is traded.

Cooper is 7 years younger, cheaper and isn't an *******. They aren't getting a top 5 for Brown. I think they get a 2nd at best, a 3rd and a 6th at worst, if they even trade him.

WE WILL GET VALUE.....Believe that!!! Cooper is not on the same planet as Brown...We freaking hold the cards here guys....There will be PLENTY OF SUITORS....

Let the games begin....,.

Give the Bears someone for Trubinski to throw to in exchange for their #1 pick from last year.

Their speedy ILBer R. Smith? I would take that and be happy with it.

When one of them is Ed Oliver, it is like having 4 DL....

Hargrave is not known as a pass rusher had more sacks this season than Oliver did in any year in college. Any see a difference in the level of competition here?

I'd guess Oliver had more rushing opportunities. Houston football broadcasters quote their coaching staff and saying Oliver's he's playing weight is about 275-280 pounds. He won't be able to anchor at this weight vs. NFL Centers and Guards who have 30-40 pounds on him.

Oliver isn't a 3-4 NT in the pros, not is he a 3-4 end. He's a 4-3 DT only.

A bad fit, and player with some red flags in terms of being a drama queen.

I do not want him at all in round one.

It's amazing what an athletic speedy ILB can do for a defense, look at Chicago, Seattle, Indy, SD, and Baltimore

No ****...no one has ever said he would be a NT in the NFL. As has been stated multiple times, he played NT at UH out of necessity. The coaches liked him there so he could flow to either side following the football.

and the drama queen bullshit was from one single episode on the sideline...that is not going to concern ANYONE...a half way decent coach would not have made an issue of the situation anyway. One of the multiple reasons Applewhite no longer coaches at UH.

I'd be asking the 49ers for their 1st, Goodwin and a mid round pick in 2020. If they balk at it, so be it. But if I'm Colbert, I'm not giving away AB.

Oh and with that pick I'd look at Devin White
