Tomlinson Thinks Bell is Best RB

WOW, a win or two can sure shutoff the naysayers. Bell is a blessing to this team, blunt is also. Lets see what this next game brings as I see our d getting better.

Salute the nation

Just please stay off the ******* weed or at least keep it at home.

I hate to say it... actually I LOVE to say it, it looks like I was completely WRONG with Bell. I had him as a third round pick and even though I would not have gone RB in round two if I would of it would have been Lacey, Ball, or Bernard. To my credit I would have drafted Ellington over Justin Brown in the 6th so lol

Honestly.. a lot of the current crop of RBs in the league aren't looking as sharp. Jamaal Charles has been hurt. Peterson is better but it's hard to consider him right now. LeSean McCoy is a great player, no argument if you put him above Bell. To me, those 4 guys are in the elite class, and it's really only 3 right now since who knows what's going on with Peterson.

Blount needs to earn my respect yet. I still see him as a bit of a punk.

Bell is developing into one of the most well-rounded backs in the league. However, credit to him (and if the staff prompted him) to improve his conditioning. No way he is this type of back if not for getting into shape this offseason. His speed and quickness is evident now that he is slimmer.

Apparently Tomlin talked to him about slimming down.

Looks like he did the same with Gilbert who looks like the leanest RT we have had since Marvel Smith in his rookie year.

His patience is borderline absurd. It seems that he comes to complete stops behind the LOS and waits for the crease to develop. I'm not sure if I have seen anything quite like that.

His vision and instinct are phenomenal.....If he does bounce it outside it is usually because the the defensive player has abandoned his responsibility.

I'm glad he is a Steeler.

This is his most notable trait. In fact, he may arguably have the best vision and patience in the game today...

Bell does have an argument for top 5 (although the sample size is too small).

However, one thing that McCoy, Charles, AP have is that breakaway speed. I am not convinced that Bell can out run safeties out in the open field.

I understand that you're not knocking the kid about his speed. But, I'd say he has more than The Bus, and Jerome did OK for himself.

Of course he's top 5. Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson aren't allowed to play anymore...

I don't think Ray Rice was ever a top 5 back. He was good, and when you compare him to Mendenhall (which everyone does because it was the same draft), sure he had his moments, but he never dominated the league like Peterson, Lynch, McCoy, Tomlinson, etc.

I hear you and I was making a tongue in cheek joke about those players off the field issues.

Though Rice had a bad year last year but prior to that he had 4 years of dominance. Over 1000 rushing each year, 2 years over 2000 total yards and all 4 years over 1600 total yards. He was more of a 2 way threat then Mendenhall, who was never a real threat out of the backfield and never had over 1500 in combined yardage.

Last year, I'd agree with you. The previous 4 years, Rice has better overall numbers than the people you mention. He was a 3 time all star and 2 time all pro during those years. He was a top 5 back. Though I hated him cause he was a Raven.

Watching Bell this year he really seems to under stand the zone blocking and being patient with his runs. Don't just try to hit the holes whether it is there or not. Slow down, wait for the blocks to develop and then use your feet to make the cut and bam you are thru the line. Very impressed with his vision, feet, and most importantly for the zone blocking his patience.
