Alright...Let 'er rip guys...4th & 1 at our own 34 and over 8 minutes left in the game, Tomlin went for it...Crazy *** move....But......Our coach knew we can't be conservative and we better play to win. We burned the clock after that...

But damn, if this play gets stuffed & he doesn't make the first and we lose that game, this board would have been blowing up...

The guy had some "Black & Gold Balls" today.....

no question. That call took some steel cahones.

Yep, ballsy call and give credit. If he would let the defensive hounds loose when Ben was QB and make those sort of call then I would give even more.

Old but good.

The only thing I wish he had done differently today was not playing turtle ball at the end. Three runs up the middle? I know it burnt out their time outs, but so would have a few first downs.

I am not a Tomlin fan. At all. But I ll say it: tonight he coached his *** off. A couple more wins like this and he’ll elevate himself to the level of Cower’s retarded red-headed stepchild. Go Tomlin, you can do it!

I liked going for it, but I hated the play call. Very risky to have MR throwing on a full sprint when he had not been doing so hot. I liked Tomlin's expression after we completed it he was like "WHEW!" Whoever decided to turn the D loose the last games I have to give them credit. To basically nullify every Rams WR was impressive. I dont know if they are being aggressive because our O sucks or Butler / Tomlin said F-it we are playing man and bringing the heat. Now the offense needs to catch up just a bit. They need to take shots just to keep the other teams D honest.

I actually really liked the call and I think they need to do more of it. Roll Rudolph out of the packet more, gives him easier reads to that side of the field.

I look at it a little differently. Before that ‘ballsy” play call we faced 3rd and a couple inches and we run and come up short. Back when Ben first got hurt and Mason took over, the Steelers faced a 3rd and short and didn’t make it. After the game either Fichner or Tomlin said they would continue with the strategy of no QB sneaks. I believe the actual quote was something like...”If we can’t make a couple inches, we don’t deserve it”.

What a load of horse crap. The guys on the other side of the line are NFL pros. They get paid too. Unless your chances are better than 90%, you better not be writing off any possible tactics. That’s stupid an arrogant. TOnight...if they wouldn’t have make that 4th down, it would have exposed their stupid theory that we should be able to go head-to-head and if we don’t make it, we don’t deserve it. IDIOTS.

There are always a couple weird decisions they make... he is so bipolar on things... that was extremely aggressive...and frankly it was an awesome play-call. If it had failed he would be crucified but it worked..

It was an obvious call, IMO, and a call that should be made more often.

Definately a gutsy call and given the time remaining and the field location made it even more aggressive. One thing is the perfect play was called against the defensive alignment. RUN or sneak was covered but a roll out / pass option left it at 1 man to beat and that man was way to deep to stop it for a 1st down gain. EXCELLENT call and execution.

THIS is the STEELERS football I've been missing.

Salute the nation

I would not have done it. Defense was pitching a shut out. I am glad it worked out but in that situation I believe the shrewd move was to punt. I guess getting punked with the safety lit a fire in the Offenses ***. Very glad to see the response.

Just being honest.

Defense was getting gassed though too. I liked the play-call as well, roll Rudolph out of the pocket a little bit.

It was incredibly stupid and could have cost us the game. The rams offense couldn't do jack **** and the only chance they had to win was for the steelers to give them a turnover. Tomlin nearly gave them that.

Also factor in that the run game was awful, Rudolph was up and down, and everybody was dropping balls.

It worked but it was stupid.

He also admitted that the ridiculous play action 12 step drop call that led to a safety was his. So yeah, there's that as well.

I wasn't happy with how he ended the first half. Rams had 1 TO and there was 1:47 on the clock. You get out of the half instead of giving them the ball back with a minute and they had a chance to steal 3 pts on a long FG. Clock management there can kill you by giving up free points. At least they missed the kick.

The 4th and 1s are his MO. We need to go for them more often, at any point on the field. You can't get a yard, you don't belong in the NFL.

I wish they would have run it on 3rd and 2 on our last scoring drive when we score on the Boz FG. We might have gotten the first. Eaten more time then. And it would have forced the Rams to burn a TO or let it run down close to the 2 min warning. Just like at the end of the first half. Samuals runs out of bounds. Stops the clock. At that point, I run it and get the clock running. In the end, we won. Hopefully, it is a lessoned learned.

Well ****.......That is just incredible.

That is our ******* HC admitting he is a complete bonehead.

Wow.

Is Lolley still thinking Coach of the Year or now is he thinking Coach of the Decade? GOAT? GITHOTW?? (Greatest in The History Of The World)

We were at our own 34 ahead by 2, a FG gives them the lead, (thanks to the safety, that he admittedly...... gifted them) ......and what ....8 minutes to go??

All Balls......No Brains.

Stunned Disbelief.

I am glad it worked out, thrilled that we won.

But if it hadn't, there would be a 64 page Fire Tomlin thread right now taking about how stupid it was, and everybody here knows it.

Well, most everybody.

The question is If we had punted, would the defense held them again and would we had got the ball back and won the game?

It is fair to question that, and we will never know the answer.

HCMT thought not, and we won, so ......Go Steelers.

I was still trying to figure out why on 3rd and six inches, they went with a sidecar handoff out of shotgun formation.

Wait, so you're saying the Steelers should go for it on 4th-and-1 from their own 10 yard line?

As far as Tomlin's move: Bad decision, good but risky play call, great execution, huge balls.

Like tape mentioned, the defense is playing well enough to win the game, it's ridiculous to chance an incomplete pass in that situation, with only a 2 point lead, and give the Rams a short field. You could see it on Tomlin's face when they showed him afterwards -- he knew he got away with something.

That being said, he is making fewer in-game mistakes this season, and deserves some credit for his team's current standing. If the playoffs started today, the Steelers would be in. Never, ever, would I have expected this after the 0-3 abomination of a start...at that time, I was lamenting the good probability that they just traded away a top-3 pick in 2020.

Obviously, there is a long way to go, but Tomlin has unexpectedly shown me some signs of growth here in his 13th season. You don't hold a guy who had 220 yards receiving in his last game completely out of the box score without some good coaching.
