Tomlin still don't get it ?

OT Jaimain Stephens......and he wasn’t a starter. Barely a backup at that time. There was no doubt Cowher was in charge. He cut a former 1st rounder early in his coaching career

He was drafted 1st round 29th overall by the steelers, played 3years then COLD CUT. Bungles picked him, never did live up to expectations or even close. I wonder if Munchack could have done anything with him???

Stephens was hopeless because was lazy and you can't fix that. Basically, he was done when he showed up looking like a whale at training camp.

Seriously doubt it Drink. Never contended for starting job. I think he was one of the guys who enjoyed being a NFL football player, rather than actually playing NFL football.

One last time, then I'll shut up. This is not about resting vets, never was !
Resting vets is a proven plus for the team.

In fact I can summarize for the reading impaired.

Chip I understand your stance and agree with some things, just like I didn’t agree with some of Cowhers. Since the Steelers usually keeps their internal punishment directives away from the media (except for M. Bryant) it’s hard to say what fines or discipline are instituted. I know Bill left some of it to the Vets, as does Tomlin. As for AB idiotic stunt with FB, he was probably fined lucratively since he was paid by Facebook for it. Other than that, what would the coach do? Suspend him the next game (in the playoffs at that). How did that work out with Belichick and his benching of Butler?

I see your point, but IDK if punishment wasn’t issued.....we don’t know a lot of what goes behind the locker room doors after the media exits.

Armed forces do the same in boot camp, and you don't see officers running boot camp. ;)

That's not a great analogy. In boot camp, ALL trainees participate in training, unless you are physically unable. The TRAINERS facilitate the training, the TRAINEES participate. All of them. And trainers don't get to be trainers without having first proven that they themselves can competently execute what it is they are training others to do.

Trainers (Tomlin and coaching staff) facilitate the run test. The trainees (players) participate. Unless you are old.

In my opinion, veterans should be doing the run test ahead of the young bucks. The older you get, the harder it is to get in shape and stay in shape.

On a side note, there are no officers going through boot camp. 'Officer' comes after that.

I meant on the steelers roster for 3 years and your right he was a lazy *** who didn't come close to living up to 1st round expectations.

That is the thing when you keep letting things go. You have to let the players right off the bat know who is in charge......amykore AB will do what AB wants to. Same with Bell. Harrison last year. Tomlin won't do anything. A little fine is not going to be a deterant...but the younger players see what these other players get away with...over a course of 10 or so years this is the culture that it has grown into.

I'm sorry i quit reading. As a 46 year Steeler fanatic i can tell you that it all comes down to ONE word. Discipline! Or a lack therof. And he doesn't "get it" and never will. Please make up for it again team. We're counting on you.

I've played on, coached, involved in many a different sports teams my entire life and the single most important part was dicipline. EASY as ever to incorporate yet some just can't instill it into the participants. TOMLIN falls into the laTTER PART. It's sort of like the TEACHER's pet syndrone, you have a specific few who get away with murder and then the rest of the class RESENTS the pets and the teacher. I'd bet that exists within the locker room.

This is all hearsay, you'd think if this is/was such a perpetual problem more former/current Steelers would speak about it

No, this is hearsay:

I did not like the Okorofor pick as he was sub par in workouts, raw, and described as " soft " on flim...in the MAC. We'll see if Munchak can coach him up. Hawkings isn't the answer. Feiler is big and strong, but he slow footed and would need some help if pressed into action at Right Tackle. Likely a Tight End on his side or a back ready to bail him out in some passing sets.

I'm sorry, I quit reading at 'quit reading'

Thought it was a command...

I said i quit reading not you quit reading. That's not saying you have to read my opinion. That's all it is. But 46 years tells me we're screwed unless, yet again, talent beats lack of coaching discipline.

It's high school all over again. Like the jocks vs the geeks. Only it's Steelers style

idk. They get it done most of the time.
I think back on the Jacksonville playoff game. Putting up all those points on a tough defense.

Only to give up more than we scored. Mighta been man power for sure missing shazier. Bad safety play (Mitchell) Not sure. but the holes are glaring as they were then. Coaches gotta put a plan together around the people we have. Not the team we wish we had. (Rumsfeld reference).
Is this Tomlins verson of the 3-4? or Keith Butlers? All those years under Lebeau, and he didn't learn a thing?

This is Tomlin's team now, he removed all players but Ben, all coordinators from the past so what is his excuse now.

Tomlin imo is Jim Caldwell. Remember him? He won just like Tomlin and even won a SB but his QB was Peyton Manning.
Then I believe went to the Lions and the wheels came off. Hid behind Manning until exposed just like what will happen with Cool Shades,
