Tomlin stepping down

next season Tomlin would be free of his contract due to the option, or am I wrong?
Its at least through 2027. I think rights expire after the final year of the contract for coaches.... players who retire it extends out till they fulfill their years obligations... so if they had two years left , they had to play for that team two years before rights expire...

Im not sure, but i dont think its the same for coaches..

Though i could be wrong...

Get a solid HEAD COACH that can bring in the right OC, DC, and STC, as well as position coaches that can teach and develop. Be more concerned with what staff the coach believes they can bring in...THAT has been Tomlin's biggest weakness over the last 10 years.
Who's your guy then? There are a lot of alright former HC candidates in the market. THIS job right now isn't even the best available job, because of the roster in place. No QB is a huge problem for a new HC. Getting one who's been a HC before doesn't mean it will be any better. Cowher was never a HC, neither was Tomlin. Everyone talks about Tomlin winning because he had to keep Cowher's coordinators. You know what that means, he doesn't win without them either.

I don't have a particular name because it matters a damn what we think. NOBODY on this site would have chosen Cowher or Tomlin. I was around for both of those discussions. The new Rooney's worry more than anything else. Time will tell.

It's all over FB this morning that the "family considerations" are a new addition to the Captain Cool Shades family.
Allegedly he got a 20 year-old bartender at Burn pregnant and paid her off so she could get outta Tahn and move to Florida.
Allegedly his below-the-waist productivity outweighed his above-the-neck thought process and things of that nature, obviously.
Apparently not playing prevent defense.
Allegedly.

I haven't found a good answer. Could we pick up the option?

I would also kind of silently advertise Watt after June 1st (there are some cap advantages to trading him after that date). Even during the season would be fine.

If we can find a team desparate to trade us a 2027 first rounder for Watt, I might jump at that.

The 2027 QB draft class could be very special. 3 solid top-10 guys. Sounds familiar to how we got Ben.

You know, I'm not even worried about the salary cap right now after looking at it. I think the QB options for 2026 are going to be bad for us. Old free agents. Not a lot of options. I am very worried Rooney (who just doesn't understand any planning past "next game") will ruin our cap trying to find a bad quarterback. I hope a new coach talks him out of that knowing when he is hired here, his 2026 performance is NOT going to be what gets him fired.

I might even be willing to go into 2026 with Rudolph. Or let the new coach bring in a cheap veteran he likes as competition.

Use what cap space we have to get Porter and Jones under long term deals (using up 2026 space if need be). Be wary of long term splashy signings this season and look for good 2-3 year deals after the rush of overpriced free agents.

But again, any type of "Project 2027" plan means we will have a young QB under contract so our cap is going to be flexible if we can get a franchise guy in the draft. There is no rush in trading or cutting bad contracts right now in my opinion. Only do it if it makes good financial sense.

As with building anything quality, this years' draft to me has to be best player available and looking for better quality for our offensive and defensive lines/front-7. We need to hit on 3 out of our first 4 picks in the top-100 and find solid B or A contributors.

Wow, that would probably cause Mrs Tomlin to unleash some hell, and things of that nature.

I'd eat some salary of Watt for better picks, and jettison some other older players and their $$$ to make this happen for 2027.

Wow!
If true, he certainly doesn’t live in his fears.

it's just been this past season where the Steelers have become confident using the tush push.
