Both probable scenarios involve the Jags having the ball. The one way away from field goal range is the one you go with.
A few might not have a problem with the call, it doesn't make it less stupid.
Both scenarios also involve giving the defense a shot to stop them. One scenario involves basically a 0% chance of getting the ball on the kickoff while the other involves a 10% chance. They way the defense was playing how could anyone have confidence in them? A "normal" onside kick at worst should have resulted in a long FG attempt for Jax. If they tried it and missed we would have had the ball around midfield. If they punted we still give the offense a chance.
