“I’m extremely comfortable with where he is in the process. It’s been great communication from and through him and the medical professionals through his rehab process. I did watch him throw. I didn’t see anything that was alarming in any way. His velocity is excellent. Maybe his spiral could be a little tighter—I’ve seen it tighter—but nothing to alarm you in any way. We’re going to continue to proceed, and proceeded appropriately with him in an effort to to have him ready to go when we step into a stadium.”

Tomlin was also asked about what he expects from Roethlisberger this season in his interview on Good Morning Football.

“Just in terms of mentality and intent, I have no question about what we’re going to get from Ben. I’m going on 14 years working with this guy and been in a lot of competitive situations. I’ve watched him stare adversity and challenges in the face over that time. It brings out the best in him always. In terms of physically and how he’s rebounding from there. So I think that it’s a process that he’s going through and with and we’re proceeding. Obviously, leaning on the expertise of the medical people and how he feels and so far so good. I’ve watched him throw a couple of times this week and he appears to have Ben-like velocity. I’m still looking for that extremely tight spiral that I’m used to seeing and so there’s still some ground to cover, but we still have some time. I’m excited about him doing what he does—stepping out in a phone booth, if you will, with the cape on—and being the guy that he has been for us and facing the challenges that this season is going to present.”

Something worth monitoring, nothing worrisome, concern for returning to form?

Can't imagine his arm strength is worse than it was last year with an injury. The tight spiral comment could be meant to light a fire under Ben's ***. If he does need work, and we can assume he does after missing basically all of last year, then the next month is a good time for him to work on this to prepare for the season.

Hard to put a lot of stock in what Tomlin says with the habitual word salad and if what he says in August much less November publicly at least has much import.

I'm kind of deciphering as

Until he is on the field of play, there is work to be one.

But remember, "he's eager to see what the men do in NFL Stadiums."

Ben is still on a snap count. All his receivers say he is throwing it as good as ever. I'm not worried about Tomlin's comment at all. We don't want Ben to overdo things right now. He is still basically rehabbing as he has only been throwing the ball 2 or 3 times a week (per his comments in an interview).

I see it as "coaching in the moment", another one of those early Tomlinisms. Anyone Remeber that one ?

If I could somehow have a coaching conversation with Big Ben it would be -have a look at the Broncos at the end of Elways (I believe Ben's childhood idol) and Manning at the end of their careers. When the TEAM WON championships. It wasn't with those guys putting up the huge numbers that they ever really won anything. Manning had under 2300 yards passing in their SB year. Elway had 3600 and 2800. Ben needs to be there for his expereince not for his rocket arm. Make the line calls, check out of a bad play. Make some throws. Don't make the big mistakes. Let the defense play and the running game work. Be an old Elway Ben not a mid career Ben.

It’s a great sign, there would be zero chances of MT jabbing Ben unless he was looking great.

Obviously every blade of grass will be defended and I am not painting with a broad brush. We are in the land of the ex killer bees and high pedigrees!

Meh....If Ben is damaged goods sure. Rely more on those around you as you say Manning and Elway did. If though he still can zing the ball around and make the throws he did in the past....well it would be stupid for him to not make those throws. Just my take.

I just dont believe the recipe for what we are all hoping for involves Ben throwing for 4500 yards. I would like to see a well developed run game. Getting out in front of teams. Let the defense hunt. About 3500 yards just over 200 per game average and double TDs to interceptions.

I agree. I'd like to see us get back to a top 10 rushing attack. That will open up the passing game and vice versa. Something more balanced. It probably won't be 50-50 but 55-45 or no more than 60-40 passing. Either way, the run game needs to be effective.

Looks like MT is pushing Ben. Ben wants complete praise. His coach giving some less than perfect words to describe him, should push him to be better.

I would like to see a streak similar to Cowher's with 101-1-1 record when leading by 11 plus. That would most certainly call for a well-balanced game on both sides of the ball. Ben doesn't have to be the end all just the unifying force.

LOL...Yeah. That's it. Or he simply stated the truth after seeing him throw for the first time. Do you really think Ben needs to be pushed? Tomlin let AB do anything and covered it up. Now he is turning into Belicheat and pushing his oldest vet. Crazy I say. :)

I would like to see that streak Chucky had...4 SB wins copied. I could care less about wins when up by 11 points if, in the end, you lose to inferior teams in the AFC championship game(s).
