Mike Tomlin tries icing kicker Roberto Aguayo at Seminoles' pro day

Mike Tomlin isn't afraid to communicate with a collegiate prospect mid-workout. He's been known to tell players something he wants to see if it's missing from a workout.

This was on display at Florida State's pro day, where apparently Tomlin had some fun with highly rated kicker Roberto Aguayo. He iced Aguayo -- at a pro day! -- as the Seminole attempted a 50-yarder, which he made, of course.

Let's have Aguayo himself tell it, with a hat tip to ESPN's Michael DiRocco, who attended the pro day.

On Aguayo's immediate feedback from NFL people in attendance: “They liked the workout. Obviously I hold myself to a high standard, perfection, just like Coach [Jimbo] Fisher. You want everything to be right but at the end of the day there’s going to be something that doesn’t come out right, but you’ve got to keep going. You can’t get flustered. You can’t step back and get flustered, because that’s what they’re looking at. At the end of the day I think I finished strong and finished with that game-winning [kick]. They called the timeout and I kicked it again, so they liked that. I think I had a great workout.”

On what happened on that timeout: “Tomlin called a timeout. They want to see you still kick it because you can test, see where the wind’s blowing and everything, so they liked that, how I kicked it still. It was a 50-yarder.”

On whether the an idea that something like that would happen: "Oh yeah. You get prepared for everything and anything. I’m prepared for anything. Whatever they want. The Steelers' [assistant coach] was trying to get in my head at the beginning. He was asking all these questions, but after I didn’t pay attention to him, he walked off. See, those are the little things they want to see, if you get distracted, if you get flustered from ... They’re like, ‘Why are you going to hit five warm-ups? Why can’t you hit three warm-ups?’ All those little things and he’s like, ‘Oh, you’re sticking by the book,’ and I was like, ‘Yes sir.’ Those are the little things, see, and overall I think I had a good workout.”

It’s noteworthy that Tomlin was evaluating a kicker after the Steelers went through four different kickers in 2015, including the preseason.

No we are not taking a kicker just thought it was funny

Waste of time Tomlin. We have our kicker. You need to be evaluating players that can help fix our secondary not our kicking.

Kickers are part of a running joke in football. But when the game is on the line, their teammates quickly find religion and mob him if he makes a big kick.

Florida St Pro day usually draws plenty attention

That fact that Tomlin thought enough of his time to waste it icing a kicker we aren't drafting anyways makes me wonder???

Not trying to Tomlin bash, but c'mon. He seriously doesn't have something better to do with his time. The battle will be one Boswell should win over Suisham for cap considerations and the possibility of trading Suisham. Are we really planning on drafting the top kicker using a 4th or 3rd? Yeah, we've got so many picks we can afford to waste them, wth. Waste of time when he should be turning over other stones.

Now I think I want the Steelers to draft him just so I can watch some of you guys head explode. Lol. It's Florida st Pro day pretty much every one goes to their Pro day. The kicker was just one of many guys working out. You guys are funny

I thought Tomlin and company were there to look at Ramsey....

nothing to see here, move along

Waste of time? Didn't we go through 4 kickers last year?????

Steelers need a Punter, not a kicker. I'm happy with the guy they had last year. He has a great leg and made pressure kicks. I'd rather him over any Kicker and n this draft.

Punter is a different story. People may not realize how much bad punts cost the steelers last year. I hope they draft one late.

^^^
Funny stuff

If it was the kickers turn to have the field then i don't see this as a waste of time, just a guy having fun with a player. "lighten up Fracncis"

**** him for trying to have a good time at work.

I wish we could have those three seconds back he obviously could have evaluated three other players in that time span. lol

Seriously?

The time it took to walk off the field or across the parking lot was more time consuming than icing the kicker.......

Aguayo is the best kicker I've ever seen. Every NFL team was probably watching.

Two winning posts right here that should end the thread and all the people complaining about "wasting time"

.

I loved it! Icing the kicker in a Pro-Day... fantastic! Seriously, don't you think they ice a kicker during a try-out? Of course they do.
