For those saying he doesn't discipline anyone.

Tomlin discipline

The Jacksonville loss caused Steelers fans to question everything, including the head coach. A Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report about Le'Veon Bell showing up late to a walk-through didn't help the growing perception that the Steelers were too loose -- or looking ahead to New England -- entering the biggest stretch of the year.

But players outlined Mike Tomlin's approach to discipline in monetary terms: Instead of punishing the entire team with benchings (save the rare case, such as Martavis Bryant ripping a teammate and requesting a trade), the coach's fines range from $1,500 to $6,000 for missed meetings or walk-throughs.

"If a guy walks in late, you're fined $1,500. It’s that simple," Pouncey said. "Each time, it goes up in price."

One veteran Steeler said players showed up on time more often than in 2016, when Roethlisberger said at midseason the Steelers may be lacking in discipline. A couple of players were late here and there, the teammate said, but the issue was far from widespread, and Bell wasn't considered a problem in this area.

Defense is Tomlin's specialty, and though he was active in defensive meetings from a planning standpoint, he didn't micromanage the jobs of coordinator Keith Butler and the position coaches, the veteran said.

"All players respect him," Pouncey said. "You can’t have a winning season like we had if players don’t respect the head coach."

Heyward called Tomlin's decision to predict fireworks with the Patriots in the Week 15 matchup "ingenious" because it deflected attention from the team and placed it squarely on himself.

Some Steelers generally like that their coach is looser than, say, Bill Belichick.

"Just because we're different than New England, people want to paint it that we're not disciplined," a veteran Steeler said. "That's not the case."

I think Tomlin tries to run a pretty tight ship.
There is just some bad apples in the bunch.

Hopefully the team is all in next season

In before $1500 to $6000?? thats nothing Tomlin sucks

Coach cool shades. Prediction on the over on this thread, 5+ pages

I'm a little surprised at this news as we the "fickle" fan are only fed so much information, weather it be good or bad, and I'm guilty of drawing to soon a conclusion. Of course I'm raised
in the era of when something NEWS in print actually meant fact so I'm sorry if I fall hook line and sinker.....occasionally. GOOD thing I carry spares. As for Cool Shades fine system,
this is GREAT news and I hope they escalate to a very high degree for repeat offenders. I hope it's not just fines for tardiness or no show and definitely for team & individual character as well.

Just a question..............How much did Antonio Brown get fined for his FB excursion???

Another question...........How much did James Harrison get fined for his multiple feats of malcontent???

This one.......................How much did Mitchell get fined for locker door tunnel shouting incident???

Nice to see the record set straight and the wildly inaccurate character attacks on Tomlin be exposed for the lies that they are. The anti-Tomlin fanatics will have to come up with some new material for their next round of mud slinging.

why do that now?

seems like the fines should have been higher and based upon HOW late you are and # of times.

Glad to see this. I have been asking for months if they were still allowed to fine players. It sounds like the amounts aren't much different than they were in the 70's. I think they need to increase the amounts and what they fine players for. Heck, Noll used to fine players for fumbling the ball.

There may be a limit in the CBA for this kind of violation?

Instead of a flat $$$ number, it should be a percent denomination of your contract pay. The higher the pay / profile / player,...... the more the significant the fine BUT fair to both low and high payed players.
A quarter of 1% is just that, same discipline to low or high. If $1500.00 then it is a larger fine to the LOW paid player than it is to the HIGH paid player Kapish??????

So reports are that Harrison was leaving before games if he didnt have a helmet, coaches and players were late on a regular basis. If these are true, then it doesn’t seem the punishments were working. Obviously.

I don't care what the players are allegedly saying, the product on the field speaks for itself.

And if Tomlin didn't micro-manage the defense, then that means Keith Butler is solely responsible for that mess, why hasn't he been fired? Or did Tomlin just fine him $1500?

All this amounts to is damage control to quiet the noise surrounding the ineptitude known as Cool Shades.
We all know Art is honoring his father’s Rooney Rule bullshit. That’s fine but when Ben does finally hang it up and there are no more trophy’s then come tell me about the Rooney Rule.
All I see are up and coming teams that will pass this one by as we waste the talent level with a fraud as a head coach.

This thread embodies why I love this board so much. The fanbase can be so divided within itself on certain issues, but at the end of the day not many people get butthurt and most realize we're "all on the same team."

**** Mike Tomlin.

If this fine thingy was instituted then WHY all of a sudden we are JUST hearing about it???? The ONLY thing I've heard was the ping pong incident and that was eons ago. Bryant's was bigger than a fine. If the ping pong made BIG news way back then and NO money involved I guarantee yaz with money involved these player's would be screaming as if the just been had with the PREVERIAL MASShole "red hot poker". I thin k Coach Cool Shades runs a lose ship and it will take visual action to deny it, like showing on the field you are a diciplined team for one thing.
