Whenever you examine an all-out bad team, something that always rears its ugly head in terms of terrible personnel choices - both drafts and free agency - but mostly bad draft picks.

The higher the draft picks mangled, the more damaged. Drafting the wrong/bad QB, for instance, can set a team back 5 years, longer if the team refuses to admit the mistake.

That being said, the Steelers are rarely a bad team, and it goes to figure that they don't often have wholesale terrible drafts, but some are better than others.

Let's examine.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/pit/draft.htm

2007 - None of the really high picks were bad, the 1st two rounds were solid, not crazy about Spaeth, the tall TE who couldn't block or catch, but no glaring bad pick that hurt us.

2008 - Nearly entirely worthless. Some will disagree, but even Mendenhall was junk, and certainly everyone after him truly were worthless: Sweed, Bruce Davis, Tony Hills, Dennis Dixon - rubbish.

2009 - Another very poor draft. Wallace was about the only pick who was worth warm beer.

2010 - Not nearly as bad as last two. AB, Pouncey, Sanders.

2011 - Only 2 keepers (Cam, Gilbert) but at least there were two.

2012 - Pretty awful, DD only keeper.

2013 - Jones was one of the worst first rounders Pitt ever took. And nothing else either.

2014 - Shaz, Tuitt and Oak Tree. OK.

2015 - Not great.

2016 - Bad.

2017 - Very solid. JJ, Conner, JuJu.

I really thought the 08 draft was going to be a great draft. I hated the Davis pick and the Dixon pick but I loved the Mendy and Sweed picks. I thought they would make that draft a really good one. I believe that was the one where the Steelers didn't even interview Mendenhall.

I'm no shades fan and anyone who reads what I say would confirm. My guess is the NFL average is an important starter and a decent player. Then everyone gets a bust and a surprise.

A new thread just to rehash your position that you don't like Tomlin or his drafts.. This is called trolling and retarded
It has already been noted that it is Tombert that handles the draft. A horrible biased thread packed with window licking commentary. And I am not a huge Tomlin fan. Just a ridiculous attempt to hate on Tomlin. Hopefully it is about time to set this troll out to the pasture.

Wow, this is some really in-depth, hard-hitting analysis Booby.

"Entirely worthless" "Very poor" "Pretty awful"

And it's Shade Tree, you dumb ****.

More trying to ruin threads from one of the "Brothers Dim" crew. Got it.

You should never call someone dim, ever.

Again you can't even grasp basic football.

They preset the draft board a group of people. Tomlin, Colbert, positional coaches, and scouts.

Try to grasp this, try.

I'm not going to lie: At the of this draft I trusted the team to make smart draft picks and assumed Mendy must be a good pick. Same with Sweed. Then it turns out the entire 2008 class was worthless and 2009 was only a modicum better. Those two drafts looked like Browns' drafts. I'm crossing fingers the last 3 were much better.

Thanks for proving you belong in the group. I guess creating straw man arguments is all you have. Not the title of thread, twinkle giblets.

Stop ruining the board's content with your middle-school nonsense.

Contribute to good content, not your low self esteem gibberish.

NOT in my neck of the woods. Our entire fan club calls him Oak Tree, Steel Wipe. Why don't you add to the thread something other than your tantrums.

You are an idiot. And regurgitate the same stupid ****, while not grasping anything.

Again these are not "Tomlin's drafts" pop. You have no good content, seriously. The **** you post is garbage.

lmfao you are full of **** and a liar.

Okay. 2010 will have been a great draft if Maurkice Pouncey and Antonio Brown make the HOF.

Damn Pop, at least list out who the hell was on each class. Kinda pointless to just list a year and say "not great" or "bad". Help a mfer out here.

Im no Tomlin fan, but this is kind of absurd. There isn’t any context. For instance, 2008 was one of the worse nfl drafts talent wise ever. Nobody got good players there. Alot of other drafts were ok... I don’t know what people expect from drafts... there aren’t many teams that really do it better than we do. Most players taken are nothing special and most don’t make it past scrub status. We probably have the most late round picks that become stars than anyone else... that-skewers our concept of what we should be doing

Plus many of the draftnik posters have a bad case of hindsight. They throw out three or so guys at each draft spot they hope we get then they only focus on the ones that pan out while creating reasons why whomever we selected was a bad pick... that’s an epidemic on every board though lol

1. Tomlin doesn't run the drafts all on his lonesome self
2. Your "analysis" is weak.
3. This is likely the millionth thread on this topic

For the life of me I couldn't figure out who Oak Tree was............ Then I considered the source and Steelworth.....thanks for the up-date. Boobie could have some good content but he posts and posts and then re-hash posts and posts. Kind of water downs his input.

I'm glad I'm NOT one of the three in your fan club. I've never called him the Oak Tree, it has always been the "Shade" tree.

A-N-D

I thought in your neck of the woods there weren't any trees. Lot of waiting in line for adult diapers and geritol.

Spaeth can't block? You know he lasted 10 years in the league, widely recognized as one of the best blocking TEs in the league?

The 09 draft is the worst in history. I did an article on it. Finding a pro bowler anywhere in that draft was a miracle, and the Steelers nabbed one in the 3rd round. That draft was so bad, a readraft would have had Wallace in the top 5.
