TJ Watt vs. Riley Reiff

TJ Watt vs Reiff Riley

TJ Watt had one of the best defensive rookie debuts in decades vs. Joe Thomas, a Pro bowl Left Tackle and possible Hall of fame candidate with 6 tackles, 2 sacks, and an interception. He was also pressuring the QB when he did not make a play.

That would be hard to top.

This week TJ is matched vs. Reiff Riley. The former first-round pick of the Lions switch teams in free agency and signed a five-year, $58.75 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings. I view Riley as one of the better NFL Left Tackles.

If TJ Watt can have half the game he did vs. Thomas, it will be another positive sign that he going to be a very good player.

Im careful to say TJ did that against Thomas. I realize that is who was lined up. But it wasn't like he beat Thomas with moves or walked him back. It was coverage and circumstance. His INT was pure athleticism. Great hands.

Can Watt play Tight End???

I had notes in my college scouting this year that I thought he would make a very good red zone TE substitute like Vrabel or his brother are sometimes used. Maybe not this year as he absorbs everything that goes into be a rookie, but I think down the line when he gets settled you might see it (at least I would do it if I was Tomlin).

If I remember correctly... TJ came to college as a TE and did not switch to OLB until after his sophomore season. He was ranked fairly high as a TE coming out of HS.

I do agree... he will see some red-zone TE play in the years ahead.
