TJ Watt Snubbed For DPOY

Really ? I read overwhelmingly the disdain last year when the cheatriot player won. I also see many "stat" related arguements here on this message board as well that are well backed up.

It's usually Coach's arguments that are NOT well laid out and based on some senseless stat that hardly pertains or has direct merit towards the argument presented.

As for this year, if one couldn't see that TJ WATT was and should have been the clear DPOY winner, then no amount of "stat" presentation will convince yaz.


I realize most are on edge from the snuff but in the end, TJ will be a driven force this upcoming season.

I get the popularity contest, but I don't really see that being a problem. I mean who is more popular than a Watt. TJ is so marketable for the league. The Subway brother commercial is hilarious an di think they even had tv show (never saw). Outside of the Madden cover wtf are you getting out of Donald. He is a better version of Sue. All I got was Steelers hatred by voters that is it.
 
I'm sorry but let's cut the bullshit. In a year filled with so much racial division and conflict there was no way a white player was going to beat out a black player. We're talking about a time where every white player that expressed an opinion that the blacks did not agree with had to publicly apologize. The league is a ******* joke just like the liberal party. Lets cater to the few and **** over the many so we can avoid more "peaceful protest" and maybe stop a few buildings from being destroyed.

Back to football discussion. My friend who is extremely football knowledgeable said Watt was deserving, but Donald is more difficult to deal with for an OC. I said sure maybe, but that brings in a realm that can't happen. If it did Ben would have won MVP's in his prime. Its stats and output not counting double teams and if he hadn't been double teamed. There are jus too many variables when you do that.

Well, I can't say this would be the reason that TJ was snubbed, but do agree on the current agenda to make people feel guilty about something, whether they should be or not.

Aaron Donald won the award because he's black. Makes sense.

That must explain why Patrick Mahomes received only two votes for league MVP.

Just an excuse as far as I'm concerned. It's saying stats no longer matter and decisions will now be measured arbitrarily.

If Donald wasn't double teamed on even half of the opponents passing plays, he'd every 30+ sacks every year.

No one is saying stats don't matter, but they cannot be the only consideration, especially for a defensive player. Context matters.

The voting was close and people thinking that Watt should have been an unanimous choice or something are delusional. Both players were equally impactful and valuable.

For argumentative sake, Rogers had 10 more TDs and 1 less INT. There’s no way they could have given it to Mahomes plus he’s in the SB so they’re going to lean toward Rogers even more so.

Generally speaking, it's easier to rush the QB off the edge. Though tackles are usually much better athletes than guards or tackles, a defender has more space to work with outside and can be doubled with a back or TE, while the interior defender can be doubled by two linemen.

The type of disruption and production Donald generates from the DT position just isn't normal. There are just so many plays where lineman struggle to even get a hand on him.

Also, every defender has coverage sacks, even TJ had a few.

Rodgers was definitely the MVP, but Mahomes would have gotten more votes, at least more than Josh Allen, had the political climate been a significant motivator in the voting.
 
Who cares. We got people more concerned about individual awards instead of why this coach/team continues to face plant in the playoffs for the last decade +. I don’t need any individual awards to know how valuable TJ is to our defense.

The ol I don't care nobody else should too. A lot care because we think he should get the credit he earned and deserved. At the end of a career it is a nice resume listing to reflect back on. Everybody and their mother realizes the SB is more important. Thing is sunshine it is ok to want multiple things as a player and a fan. It doesn't lessen the desire for the bigger prize. Trust me TJ of all players has an overwhelming desire to win. No award would road block that. Don't confuse the teams short comings as a lack of desire. You don't continually win lacking that want. It is a coaching, players injuries, and talent not replacing age quick enough problems.

My problem with that is...they play different positions. Donald, as a 3-4 DE plays a position whose job it is to be double-teamed. That's like saying Watt should have gotten in because of his coverage stats like having 7 PDs and an INT to Donald's 1 and 0 respectively.

It's an apples/oranges argument to compare a pass rushing end to a DT. Donald is the best/most disruptive force on defense in the league. That said, just like the old Jordan MVP arguments, sometimes other players have a season worthy of them winning the award. I can't argue with a straight face that Donald isn't worthy. But TJ had a season, especially with the injuries in his unit that should have swung it more his way this year.

It is possible to be pissed at what went wrong and also want to see guys who exceled get recognized for it.

I've seen former NFL linemen say that is a legal play if the defender executes a certain pass rushing move.
