Timmons earning his pay

If he'll consider a reasonable salary, I wouldn't mind a 3 year contract.

Talk on The Fan this morning was that they'd look for him to take a little less money to stay here and finish his career. He's still productive, I don't have a problem with that.

I don't care about face mask. If that type of neck tackle / close line is legal it shouldn't be. And how would not one of the officials viewed it as a face mask. I thought he was permanently injured on that play.

GEE every year fans here run down Timmons but how many times is he making the tackles, yes he is no coverage LB but that is the defensive coach fault to place him in this position.

Williams isn't as fast as Shazier, but he's faster than Timmons, Timmons is great when the play us in front of him, but he can't run sideline to sideline anymore

I think they would sign him to a cap friendly number. However, he could get a pretty big one or two years deal with a contender in need of an ILB. I don't think the Steelers will afford to keep him. Outstanding season for Timmons. He had a rough start to his career but has been great since. He used to be fantastic in coverage but has still played great zone this year with two HUGE interceptions.

Timmons always seems to come on and be playing his best ball at this time of year

Yes, Timmons made $8.75 million this year as a base, however, an additional $6,381,250 is prorated, bringing his total 2016 cap number to $15,131,250

I'm not capoligist, but I think the over the cap site is very accurate, so I choose to quote them.

As for Foster, I'm for a trade that takes close to or all of his 2017 cap number. Cutting him might save $1.75M with this year's cap space would not make a lot of sense.

Hey Coach,

The prorated amounts were the bonuses earned in previous years for restructuring. He didn't earn the prorated amount this year.

Also, trading Foster does nothing for changing his dead money hit. He was given a signing bonus this year just under $3M. That is the prorated amount for 3 seasons. The money has already been paid, so you can't get rid of it by trading the player. The only way you're getting that prorated money back is if the player decides to retire and leaves the team before the contract is up, then the team can go after that player for any prorated signing bonus. Foster is locked into being a Steeler next year. We can discuss it at the end of next year, where there would actually be a cost benefit to cutting him if he regresses.

Timmons is still faster then Williams

While Timmons doesn't look good trying to cover the fast RB's or chase down someone from behind anymore, he does seem a little faster than Vince. hard to say since Vince doesn't get as much play time. I think under any objective standard Timmons is better than Vince.

I'd like to see him less in coverage, I think.

Maybe Coach should stay out of cap related threads

Timmons will be here next year as well, mark it down! He will retire a Steeler!

Vince isn't a burner, but he ran a KC wr or RB down from behind when Shazier was out, it's not knock on Timmons saying Williams is faster.

There are a number of people here who talk about signing this guy or cutting that guy and don't consider salary cap implications.

and that is why you're not a GM. well, one of the multi-millions.
this isn't Madden. you don't just plug and play.

2009 was Foster's first year here. We had Starks, Kemo, Hartwig, Essex and Colon starting. Guys who were getting older and slower due to injury, etc. Foster came here undrafted, turning down offers elsewhere, because he had a chance to contribute. He was a starter his third year. And since has helped solidify our line. While the OL isn't all-pro at every position, Foster is pretty damn good. He's appeared in 101 games in his career and has had ups and downs, but for the most part is solid. Nevermind what he brings to the locker room. As a down home country boy with family morals, he's never been seen in the police blotter. Never been arrested. Never causes a self-inflicted black eye on the team.

Oh, it was a can kicked down through the years. I think you should stay away from cap related threads as your ability to perceive value relative tot he cap number is not the best.

But as of right now, Timmons is playing his best ball.

The reason for my post Ron

No ****, Sherlock

Timmons has previously said he'd take less to finish his career here and I always like to see draft picks spend their entire careers with one team. However, from a management perspective, this would go against everything they're trying to do on defense. They are still rebuilding from an era of keeping some of their greatest defenders a couple of years too long. I think Timmons still has a place on the team, but if you want to continue to focus cap dollars on your offensive stars and impact defenders, then you have to let him go. What's the saying? It's better to let a guy go a year too early than a year late.

I think "right price" is the key. Are you going to get someone better for $3m? How much worse are they going to be? Is the $2m in caps space you save (assuming he would take $5m) going to be worth having a player that is worse?

They extended Williams before the season through the 2018 season at 2 million per

How much lower? Maybe if he'll take half of what he's making this year I'd be okay with a 1 year deal.

Do you think his salary was $15 mill this season? Just asking.

A bad @ss stuff on the goal line and another key interception. Both of these plays are the reason we won.

This thread was needed, that goal line stand won the game, he smacked Hill around all day

Do you know the difference between salary and cap number? To answer your question no .

2 years 6 mill, and use him a bit less in coverage I know he made 2 superb intc but his best asset is run stiffing and blitzing from anywhere.

Well Coach the posts you have been making had me wondering if you knew the difference. That was the reason I ask.
