Time to say Goodbye to Mike Tomlin?

After watching Tomlins 2-9 swiss cheese clusterfuck defense all these years, I actually miss the 10 yard cushions.

Those DEFENSES need a little tweek but compared to Cool Shades shittiizzle,........they were powerhouses.

Pretty sure at this point the 10 yard cushions were Tomlins idea.

Your probably right but compare those D's to today's version Mike Tomlin had less hand action then then what he has now.

By the way the thread is titled "Time to say goodby to Mike Tomlin"............. 10-4-18 8:18pm........ GOODBYE Mike Tomlin !!!!!!

This 3 coaches in 50 years is great and all, shows stability and no knee jerk reactions but the other end of that is complacency. Tomlin is too comfortable in his job and he's entirely to arrogant and proud to learn from his mistakes. The guy has not learned from past mistakes and refuses to do so. Case in point the ridiculous challenge Sunday night on where the ball was spotted that was never, ever going to be overturned. That's just one small sampling but the list is almost endless with him.

No, I don't think Rooney will fire him after this season regardless of how it ends. There's this blind fricking loyalty that Rooney shows Tomlin and its just mind numbing. Tomlin has become way too comfortable knowing how secure his job is and this has not translated well to the Steelers current team. Its clear that Tomlin is calling the defensive shots and has great input on the offensive game plan if you want to call it that. Nothing s working! The guy has never been and will never be an X and O type coach. He's what Bradshaw sad he was, a cheerleader and nothing more and I'm afraid we're all stuck with this crap.

Now I think Tomlin SHOULD be fired, but he won't be. I never thought he should have got that last extension unless he got to a Super Bowl. However as we know, the Steelers don't burn through head coaches and the namesakes of the Rooney Rule are simply not going to fire their first black head coach. Shades would need at least two consecutive losing seasons before they would consider firing him. Remember a few years ago he went 8-8 two years in a row and got an extension.

Yeah we're screwed as fans. Only thing that could change it is the fans stop showing up (waiting list never happen) or the players weigh in that they have no faith (our only hope). He lost this team years ago, poor drafts and aging talent are exposing what many knew years ago. Tomlin is a poser.

I can’t remember any coach having this much talent (I’m not talking about this year’s d) coming up short so many times. Other coaches have won Super Bowls with much less talent-especially on offense.

If Tomlin can right this sinking ship...and make the playoffs....

I will never ***** about him again..

This is his greatest professional challenge and will define him as a Head Coach....

I think Mr. Tomlin's legacy rides on how this season ends...and he knows it.

so if we get a participation trophy he gets a pass ?

No not so lucky from me. His fingerprints are all over this teams failings.Bad decisions before the season and during the season through free agency as well as in game lack of adjustments.

I have no desire to see that constant into the following years. No thank you.

I hear ya...but think this team is such as mess that if.....and thats a big if... can right this sinking ship into the playoffs, it will be a feather in his cap, especially as far as the Rooney's are concerned.

You knwo with this defense, we are not going to the Super Bowl, so lets not pretend were capable.

The D had plenty of time to improve. It has been a **** show for quite some time. With Tommy Tom pushing the sled.

The D has actually gotten worse despite free agency and the draft.

So if they aren't capable he get's first blame. It was his job to fix the leak, now there is a gashing hole.

People want to window dress him into a brief period of time, but this isn't a one year problem.

This is a decade problem of team distractions, ****** defense, no X and O game time adjustments.

And early playoff exits.

NOT ******* GOOD ENOUGH.

Im just saying...if he makes the playoffs with this bunch, and after the horrible start on and off the field...

It will be an accomplishment......no matter whose to blame for their current roster and current level of play..

Im not absolving Tomlin of past culpability....

I just believe that if he, and make no mistake, he is the one that needs to drive the change of culture, attitude, and play, and they make the playoffs, this would be a major accomplish, no matter the head coach.

Do you see this team winning a SB in the future with Tomlin?

That is always the bottom line.

I would say the majority think the answer is no.

Not that I don't understand that a coach turning around a season could be considered a solid performance.

But he is a big reason they need to turn the season around in the first place.

The Falcons game is now a must win. Less than 10% of NFL teams since the NFL-AFL merger have made the playoffs after five games with just one win. If anyone has the exact odds, please show them here.

We are 0-2 in the AFC, and 0-2 at home. If the Steelers lost to the Falcons we are 0-3 at home.

The odds suggest that either Cincinnati or Baltimore will likely win next week, pushing us further back in the division race. Perhaps both teams will win next week. The least likely probability is they both lose.

As we know Tomlin coached teams have had the less success on the road, often losing games to inferior teams. We have 4 tough road games ahead. @ Cincinnati, @ Baltimore, @ Jacksonville, and @ New Orleans.

We'd better win on Sunday if not, the season in all probability is over. And while that would suck, it could signal Tomlin's waterloo moment. A large broom, starting with our head coach is long overdue.

Our next 2 games are must wins just to hope to get back inito the thick of things. Lose the next two and our season IS over. Lose to the Bungles and the season is probably over. That will already be 2 losses and a tie in the division.

And Norv Turner hasn't had a head coaching job in the NFL since 2012.

Imagine that.

in 2024 can we look back and say Tomlin hasn't had a head coaching job in the NFL since 2018???

I've been blah about this team and about the NFL for almost 5 seasons now.

I know Tomlin and the way this team plays week-to-week is part of that. I just can't get excited. I have no interest in how they are developing the roster. I have no interest in their salary cap situation. It's just the same-old, same-old EVERY ******* YEAR.

I just can't keep arguing and rehashing the same arguments about this team since 2009.

It's either about Tomlin and how good a coach he is. Roethlisberger and his maturity level and how much he's fighting with the offensive coordinator. The defense and the 10 yard cushions and the bad games at home.

I feel like everything we're debating now are things we debated 10 years ago and 5 years ago and 3 years ago. Same things.

Until Tomlin & Roethlisberger leave, I'm pretty much numb about the whole thing. I root for them, but it's not like in 2008-2010. when I was genuinely excited about the possibility of a dynasty in Pittsburgh again. Too many bad losses for me to take them seriously anymore.

I thought after Ben won his 2nd SB that there would be many more to come. Little did I know how bad the HC was going to **** everything up. Now Tomlin has been here 12 seasons and since Cowher's players have left, except for Ben, they are an absolute mess of a team. I know they won't lose a lot of games this year but that says as much for some of the sucky *** teams like the clowns and even the bungles than it does the Steelers. I don't buy into the bungles or their hot and cold QB or their can't win a playoff game coach. So the ship will be righted and they'll end up winning 10-11 games only to be ousted quickly in the playoffs. Tomlin will dilly about popcorn and obviously and everything will be back the same next year.... until one day Ben isn't there...

I would love to be able to do so, Drink IRON City, but probably not.
