Yeah, I know... playoff push, leading the division, huge division game upcoming..
still, since we have a pretty good sample of the season done now, it seems like a good spot to look at where we are at right now and what the strong points and weak points are in the roster, and where we may be focusing draft capital and cap space for free agents.

My opinion:
Biggest needs:
1. DT/DL.. Heyward is playing great, but he is long in the tooth. Benton hasnt taken that step forward yet. Ogunjobi is just a guy.. Leals injury leaves him in doubt.. Loudermilk and Adams are solid backups, not much more..
Tomlins scheme requires DTs to do a lot... and the line needs another playmaking force on it badly.

2. Wr... a second true playmaker is a high priority.. Pickens is great and CA3 is a quality role player.. even if Roman Wilson pans out with a year of seasoning, another top end guy is almost surely going to have to be brought in...

3. RB. One of the Two main guys will likely be brought back next year, and the other allowed to walk. A young back almost certainly will have to be added

4 QB. One of the two will be signed as the Starter, the question is, do you just bring in another reclamation project as a backup or use Allen as QB2 and draft a 3rd high risk/ high reward type

Positions we may use but really dont need:
1. CB. If we resign Sutton and DJ, nothing will happen here.. the Pass D isn't as bad as some think... you only carry 4 or 5 and one is usually a special teamer.. l could see another midround CB taken if one of the two UFAs leave

2. Tackle.. Assuming Moore isnt resigned, a swing tackle with upside will be needed... Spencer Anderson can do it, but they usually have a dedicated guy too

3 . IOL.. Daniels wont be resigned. Herbig wont be back at his higher pricetag either.. another guard could be drafted...

Positions we probably are fine at

1. TE. Friermuth got his contract... Washington is TE2... the third te is typically just a blocker...

2. Safety. Mincah, Elliott, Kazee, Bishop, plus Killibrew as a ST guy... as well as Watts on IR... there is no reason to address this...

3.LB. Unless we are trading one of the starters, tge olb and ilb positions are pretty solid and deep
A 4th olb might be a target, but that will be a ST ace low draft pick type

I believe we take a 3.5 mil hit if we cut Ogunjobi but save 7 mil. Like you said, he's average. Move Benton to DT and grab a stout NT through free agency or draft. This horse has been beaten ad nauseum about a true nose tackle, don't use a first round pick on him unless it's a Hampton etc.

When Gibbs was taken by Detroit at 12 in the first round, allot of folks questioned a RB that early. Big difference between Gibbs and Nagee. That's an evaluation knee jerk problem that has been fairly common over the last 10 years. We need a running back.

Wide receiver, it's pretty obvious. Especially since Pickens is probably gone in 2026.

Soooo, spend your money in free agency on DL and WR. Draft Wr and RB and another DL day one and two.

They will need to address CB,WR, and RB. Probably will resign Wilson and Warren.

A caller gettin' laid tonight
Swisher rolled tight, gotta sprayed by Ike
I hit the highway, making money then fly way
But there's got to be a better way
A better way, better way, yeah

I been wanting to finish that verse for weeks now!

I don't disagree about CB but man, we had a shot at a guy ( Mitchell) last draft that is heading to one of the top cbs in the league and we we went with Fautanu. I've said in another thread that it appeared to be a win win regardless who we took, hope that's the case.

Guys have been falling to Philadelphia (Dejean, Cater and so on) for a few years now, their qb is hot and cold but they have some serious weapons on offense and they fixed their secondary making their defense scary.

Good song, great movie.🍿

HC, DC, possibly OC but it's too early to make a judgement.

DL is the biggest need. They need to draft DL the next 2 years as they did the last 2 with the OL. Yes, we need to get a stud in the 1st round.

We don't know what we have in Roman Wilson as he really hasn't done much practicing. He's starting like Austin did by missing his entire rookie year due to injuries. So, WR is the next top need.

If Najee goes, they will definitely need RB as well. Warren is good as a change of pace RB but I'm not sold he can handle RB1 duties for an entire season. His fumbling is a concern as well.

CB is probably next.

I would either go DL or WR round 1, maybe CB if we let DJ walk... whichever had the higher ceiling when we are on the board. Then take whatever is left in the second, fill whatever position is left from those three in free agency or a trade... no use putting a premium need from those positions in a middle round pick.
hit a RB in the 3rd or 4th if a good one is there. If not take a boom or bust in the seventh

I spend the 5th or 6th on a OL backup type. The sixth or seventh should be a boom or bust third qb... assuming we only have two on the roster then..

QB is the most pressing need. followed by DL.

I agree with OP assessment. But QB only a journeyman backup if Russ or doubtfully Fields is signed. Do not waste a Draft pick on a place holder. Take a dude in first round in 2026.

or resign Wilson?
That's apart from the draft, I'm assuming Wilson or Fields are kept. We can't go to the draft with zero depth there forced to reach on a 3rd round guy in the 1st, again

1. QB - I'm assuming Wilson will re-sign, but if a QB falls (even in this weak QB draft class), they'll probably consider drafting a guy to sit 1-2 years. You just can't pass on a QB if you think they can be a long-term answer...I just don't know if that guy is in this year's draft.

2. WR - I get the argument for DL, but the Steelers have the 4th-ranked scoring defense, just 1 point away from having the best in the league. Just with an upgrade at QB, this offense is scoring 5 PPG more this season with only 1 weapon at WR. This is by far the biggest roster hole this year and will be again next season.

3. RB - The Steelers didn't pick up Harris' option, so it's highly unlikely they pay him what he'll make on the open market. The good news is from everything I've been reading that it's a deep RB draft. Warren is a good 1B, I want to see a true playmaker at 1A. They need an explosive option.

4. CB - A top CB to pair with JPJ would've been a great pickup in this past draft. I know why they passed on that chance, but getting a pair of good CBs would be big for the pass rush.

5. DL - Interior pass rush is important and a priority position. They've done a decent job with the depth, but it's a position they'll value.

Assuming they sign Wilson and Fields leaves in FA, I can see them using any of their picks, even a first-rounder if a guy they love is sitting there. If they sign both Wilson and Fields, I can't see them using any pick on QB.

But the other option is to spend a 1st on a Qb that will not be a part of winning now which is kinda the point of signing Russ. Kinda like when Ben was pissed shen they used higher pick on Rudolph when they were in win now mode. I say put chips in. When it's over be bad for a year or two and then get a good qb where your best bet is. High first round.

I think we traded away some draft capital. Probably don't have enough to move up in the first round.

Yes. Draft a seventh round longshot QB.. sign Russ for 3 years... dont overdo it with ufas in the offseason... load up on comp picks the next two seasons, then trade up in two years for a higher first round qb and let him sit behind Russ one year

I wouldn't want a Russell contract that ties our cap for mote than 2 years, having an easy out from the contract on the 3rd year and a young qb with 2 years of learning behind a future HOF is not a bad plan. Remember, this is only if a really talented QB falls to our pick, I'm not advocating to drafting any qb in the 1st

I don't want a non first round guy because even if he is a 2nd from the second half of the round he is a project. They could get a starter at that position and the history of these guys.......pass.
