This rookie is very impressive, and I think he can transform our offense in three key areas. A clear upgrade and better than anyone we had in 2018 and 2019 in the following areas.

1 ) He's the big deep receiver the team has lacked since M. Bryant could pass a drug test. We saw this in his second pro game, where he just blew by the cornerback and took a deep pass the distance for 84 yards, which was the key play in the game. Claypool really makes the Steelers dangerous on the 7, 8 and 9 routes. A.K.A. The Deep Corner, Deep Post, and Go routes.

2 ) Sideline and jump balls. These are not easy plays to covert, but they are also hard plays to stop. Claypool's height 6'4" 1/2, combined with long arms, and leaping ability of 40 1/2" allows him to dominate these type of plays. We saw this in game 1 vs. the Giants, with a leaping sideline catch. IMO Claypool is the only player the Steelers, have that would have converted that play.

3 ) As an Edge or Screen Blocker, Claypool is a beast of a blocker, perhaps not quite the collision blocker as Hines Ward was, but he clearly uses his size and weight advantage and does it with technique. In my opinion, Claypool can be one of the best 10 wide receiver blockers in football. We can see this on-screen passes. If we ever get a faster back, this type of blocking will pay dividends on off-tackle runs, pitch plays, or sweeps. Claypool has 30-35 pound on most DB's.

With a little practice, at his size he's going to be a threat on hitch and comeback routes too. I also think Claypool with his size and speed would be a killer on play action, that is if the Steelers actually call it. Currently, he's 5 for 5 on targets. In the next two games I want to see 10 targets thown his way, I don't care if its at the expense of Washington or Ju-Ju, who's dinged up...again.

And speaking of Ju-Ju, we can not afford to re-sign him next year. He's going to leave as a free agent, meaning the best we will get is a 3rd round comp pick ( Around pick #100 overall ). A 4th round comp pick is not out of the queison either ( Around pick #142 ). If Claypool continues to shine, and a WR goes down from another team, I would be okay with trading Ju-Ju for a 2nd round pick to get the best possible value for him.

Parts of this post makes a lot of sense.

AS for trading JuJu in the midst of the season, VERY unlikely that would ever happen.

Claypool was first round talent drafted in the second. Big Dot was talent way higher than he was drafted and our FO / SBWCMVLT had a hand in getting the great value.

I agree Claypool had first round talent. This was a very deep year for receivers in the draft, we are very lucky he fell. He could be the best WR of the bunch. On top of his physical talents, he's lauded for his work ethic and character and that's most welcome as the Steelers have had their share of diva players. ( Bell and Brown )

I don't want trade Ju-Ju for anything less than a 2nd round pick. But if another teams #1 goes down, and offers a 2nd round pick, it makes sense as Johnson looks like en emerging star....he just needs to hold on to the football. And Claypool is really impressive.

Some said much of Ju-Ju's sues was because the other teams were worried about A. Brown. I think this is partially true, and for whatever reason Ju-Ju is getting dinged up to easily and lost his clutch abilities last season. IMO Ju-Ju is really not the ideal #1 WR these days, and is better off as starting #2. Had I left out the trade thoughts, I think some would like this post a bit better.

I was with you until the end. I think we need to at least attempt to keep JuJu he has impressed me gain this year with his physicality on finishing his YAC. He is maturing.

With the Steeler cap space in 2021, and two really good looking young receivers, Ju-Ju chances of being resigned where he's going to be asking for top dollar are near zero. It is what it is.

Ju-ju's yards per catch is 9.0 this season. That is not good. Okay its only two games. True. What about last year? Johnson who was a rookie outshined Ju-Ju in terms of total catches, yards, and touchdowns.

Washington is a fine 3rd and Ebron if used can get open and catch the football. Claypool needs more targets.

Claypool has been amazing and I agree we have found us a baller, but he still has lots to learn and other teams are now going to start accounting for him. Just keep feeding him and see how he progresses.

Ju-Ju isn't coming back next year. Coach is spot on the reasons why. And, I am not against trading him later in the season if a good offer comes a long (second round would be fine) and Claypool has gotten to where he needs to be and our injury situation looks good. If those pieces come together near the deadline, it is a pragmatic move to get some draft capital. I do like Ju-Ju the man and would hate to see him go, but no way we can afford him next year.

GREAT points Hoot but there is no way you can say JuJu won't be back next year with absolute certainty. Our front office has manipulated cap space where others have thought NO WAY POSSIBLE.

Let's see where we are at at the 2/3 part of the season and NOT trade away #7 if possible.

PS I'm not sure of the trade deadline so that's why I said 2/3 season

Claypool also shows he can run the ball on end arounds.

Plus he's a ST demon!

JuJu isn't moving this season. Zero chance of that happening. If the Steelers want more than the 3rd round comp, they should consider a tag and trade after this season. Someone will give a 1st for a high character guy, with his work ethic, and size metrics.

just my opinion. If they find a way to bring him back, great. I like the kid. I just don't think he will be the highest priority next year especially given the depth. Getting another high pick next year would be very useful.

What's wrong with you guys??? As long as we are in contention for a SB, we DON'T TRADE JUJU....

In terms of deep threat, you are forgetting Washington who has made his share of deep plays. He had a frustrating bout of the dropsies, but last year he made some great strides to overcome that. Let's not forget that Washington, not JuJu or Johnson was the leading receiver last year. I wouldn't write him off just yet.

But tall receivers are easier to spot...Just sayin"

I'm glad he is being shown the playing ropes with BEN as his QB. Not dissing the back-ups (QBs) but with Claypool's ability, he will climb much faster with QUALITY QB play.

no. actually, it wasn't.
It always is to a certain degree of his agenda. In this thread he waited until almost the end then it was the regurgitated let's trade this player crap. Knowing his history I wouldn't be ruling out some plagerism as well. Especially when the guy starts touching on things outside of his wheelhouse. This is a poster that the majority of the time doesn't understand basic football concepts. I will always believe little to nothing he says, he earns that with his daily ramblings. Bottom line is always diss player A followed by what he would do different. This thread is no different than the rest. Want a real treat? Ask him to elaborate on the routes mentioned. He will surely respond after he googles what he found two days later. Notice the guy never mentions his sources? I know why that is, he is despirate to make you aware of just how intelligent he is, but looking at him daily we all know better. Sorry none of his crap gets a pass for me. I would love to replace him with the good posters he ran off due to his babble rousing. For some icing on the cake on game day threads his constantly dissing of coaches or players and what he would do instead. Then there is the fact he won't contribute but he will damn sure diarrhea his crap thread to thread.

Claypool is already runnning other routes as evidenced in his short-ish route last week where he dove inside to catch the ball near the ground. All he has to do to change the Steelers is get playing time. They need to work him up to 15-20 snaps per game by mid-season.

And, trade JuJu? Are you ******* nuts? Do you not want to make the playoffs this year? Come on, man!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been waiting for you to GFY for a long time tool. I call you as I see you. Far as what you call you call them as youtube calls them, or Walter football calls them, or whatever other site you steal from calls them.

Hi all..

Im proposing that we eliminate the often used and Steeler Nation affectionate phrase of "go **** yourself", with the acronym "GFY"..

Much more user friendly and time efficient....
Me and my buddies use it our our group text thread...and its a value added addition to our conversations!

I am ok with that and hope one day he will do it.

One can dream !

Hoot did you not know claypool was tall and fast ? Wait,,, Ben likes that? Oh ! I thought Ben wanted slow midgets for receivers. " Claypool can be one of the best blocking receivers in football. " I think he could be one of the best route runners we've seen.! ~ see what I did there?
Ultimately he gets to his salary cap mantra and getting rid of juju. The rest of it was little girl takes.
