Thornhill: We might not have been prepared for a running QB

unpossible, I have it on great authority we never make in game adjustments.

Sorry Still, Just had to give you ****.
Seriously read the article on the home page. It isn't bragging up Tomlin. Not one bit. And yes. Believe it or not when I say zero adjustments I am overexaggering. Even in our playoff loss last year adjustments were made but very late in the game. Watt was crashing down on Henry late in the 3rd quarter. It has been reported Harrison ran over finally a flipped out on the coaches to make some adjustments.

And apparently after 1 week our coaches haven't made any adjustments to their adjustments. Shocker. I know.

I read the article and there's no way to downplay the fact that this is a poorly led and poorly disciplined team. I don't see any veterans that are leaders - especially since Heyward and last year Watt "held in" for higher pay. Decades ago this team was home grown - now it seems like many of them, especially the skill players, are hirelings that could very well be on another team next year if not out of football entirely.

Chasing that Tomlinship.

Has nothing to do with Tomlin...LOL...He's saying they got conditioned practicing against Rodgers vs. playing Fields. And that might have lulled them to sleep a little as far as Fields abilities.

Context: try it you'll like it.

Do you actually believe Tomlin and the entire team were not aware Fields is a running QB? C'mon man....
Thank you.

Read what Thornhill said. He said they don't have that kind of QB to practice against as the reason he said they may not have been prepared. To me, it is the wrong thing to focus on. My issue is why didn't Tomlin have the starters play more preseason snaps? The Jets starters played quite a bit. They were far more prepared physically for meaningful football than the Steelers were, and it showed. Thankfully they got the win. But how many more weeks will it take to get these guys there physically?
I'm calling it a 'calculated risk'. Why??? See below...

Resting the optimal pieces of your team during preseason does show up in the early games of the season but I think they'll be up to speed this week. Cam didn't help by sitting in and Benton paid the price because of it. The injury to Harmon also made this a glaring problem but again, this was Week 1.

Optimism tells me that barring any other major injuries, we'll see just how stout or soft the defense is when we go to Gillette stadium against the *'s...

The addition of Hot Peppers only increases my optimism because of his run stopping abilities. Personally, I'd move Chucky Clark to the PS once Peppy is fully signed...

Wilson has now come out and stated in game adjustments during came late and that was a major issue last season also.

Statement came from a SteelerNation article. Seems the players are tired of the coaching faulures and want change.

Where are our ******* team leaders!!!! Right this ship now. While the season is still young.
Easy Keemosabee... most articles are written to stoke the fire or ignite a spark for one.

The leader on defense was being greedy and the entire defense suffered because of it...

Some of these guys are great talkers but don’t back it up. Good at boasting how great they are and making excuses when they fail.
Peyton Wilson is one of those guys and he and Queen got steamrolled Sunday.
We’ve been hearing about communication issues all of last season now once again to start the season. There is no reason this shouldn’t have been corrected before the first game.
Yesterday’s TD run by Fields where he swept around right end. There were absolutely zero Steeler defenders anywhere near him on that play.
They all bunched up in the middle as Fields pretty much jogged into the end zone around right end.
I still can’t believe they fell for that! You had to know that’s what he was going to do. It’s his strength but the defense was totally fooled.
They were totally unprepared to play Fields.
Big Play Slay gave up that TD. He was responsible for the backside of the defense. Had he stayed at home out would have been a better look and Justin doesn't walk in the end zone.

He also was beat when the defense switched to man coverage by Garrett Wilson. I'm still trying to dissect what happened with both safeties???

These things are very fixable and just a reminder - it was Week 1. The Steelers won the game. And the entire defense has not played together in a game yet. There's hope...

Our leader on D is Tomlin. And our D has suffered for years now. Agreed.

Ok. Yes. Coach Tomlin is the overall leader but the captain and elder statesman is Cam.

Period the end. His hold in didn't just have a ripple effect on the defense's production - it caused a tidal wave because Harmon was already ruled out of the game and his lack of preparation was glaring.

Another reminder - the base defense is no longer the 3-4. It's the nickel 2-4-5. So, we had an unprepared DL and an apparently note regressing DL trying to stop a triple headed rushing attack. That's just the facts.

The team found a way to win. Let's move on to Seattle...

Cam has never been true/real leader...by name sure. He always pretend in front of the cameras that he was. Just how it is. Under his tenure the culture changed. And for the worse in case you haven't noticed.

I think you severely over rate Cam.

l know. It is Week 1 and we all over react. I was laughing at it as we get further away from the game. Because in Week 1 nobody really knows yet what each team is going to be. Think the Ravens will give up 41 every week? What about the Bills giving up 40?

Due to that truth, what would the optimal score be to mitigate the griping? Because if it was 13-10 or something, then it would be how Tomlin has no concept of offensive football. What if they lost? Oh, boy. Maybe 27-13, Pittsburgh? Enough offense and defense.

Nowhere to go but upwards, right? Can’t get much lower!

The writer of the article pointed to the coaching being at fault, not necessarily Thornhill.

I seriously doubt Thornhill was implicating the coaching staff .
By him saying “not prepared” could easily be interpreted as not being accustomed YET to a facing a running QB after practicing against Rogers all the time during camp.
Too early in the season for that running QB shyt. lol.
I think they’ll settle down.

They must have not prepared for the Jets RB gashing them all afternoon either.
