This team has to play a lot better

I think some of the players secretly viewed it as an exhibition game. Not only that, I think the defensive starters had one thought in mind......DO NOT get hurt before the playoffs. You know what happens when you play that way and it showed itself yesterday. Doesn't really concern me honestly. Can't say I wouldn't have been thinking the same thing if I was one of them.

We've trailed by double digits in each if the past 3 games, yes we won all 3, but none of those 3 teams are playoff teams either, can't keep coming out flat. The offense has to go through Ben, not Bell.

You've got this right. I know it was only the Browns, but the young receivers stepped up enough to show they can get the job done and the Steelers offense needs to take full advantage.

I don't think it was much of a secret.

They have won every game. Does it matter who they go thru..

I'm not making excuses for the guys but I will tell you this much. It is very, very difficult to get amped up for a game like this with absolutely nothing on the line. You know your stars are sitting which they should have but it makes a player feel like just going through the motions with thoughts of next week more on their minds. Tomlin no doubt woke their ***** up at halftime and they came out a different team.

If this game was an anomaly, then your point would be well taken. However the two previous games were "playoff atmosphere" games and the team played lackluster first halves in both (just like this weekend). They are going to have to play 60 minutes of football in the playoffs. They have not done hat consistently most of the year.

My advice is attack, attack and then attack again. Every good thing I've seen them do in the last six/ seven weeks came from being aggressive. Everything bad or at least stagnant was when they sat and hoped. And frankly if they play aggressive/ smart and lose I can live with that. But if they hold back and hope for two and a half quarters and come up short. I think that is bullshit.

so the head coach might want to relay to the assistant coaches how he envisions the approach?

As long as the outcome of the next four games is the same as those last three games, I am just a-ok with it.

Just becomes you don't jump on a team 14-0 21-0 or whatever doesn't mean you have started out slow or lackluster. The other team has a say in how the game goes. Sometimes its just a close game.

Ok but you watched those games. You saw how they came out and the plays they called in the first 2/3 of the game and how they opened it up in the last third. And what the results were.

I agree. Last weeks game against Baltimore, I wouldn't even say the team lacked desire. The team played good ball in the 1st qtr. 2nd/3rd qtr and Ben's int's kept Baltimore in it, although Baltimore isn't necessarily a world beater, they are a rival and on Christmas day, I thought the Steelers orchestrated an amazing gameplan to come back. Gotta give Baltimore credit for key stops that could've favored them. In that thought, I feel great about the Steelers playoff run

I do have to ask what you watched there. They came out and shoved it down their throat on the opening drive with Bell. Then they kept putting themselves in awkward 3rd down distance and went basically no wear till half. He got picked on the first play of the second half half I believe and then caught fire in the fourth. Outside of the first Drive and the fourth quarter they were ***. Whatever that initial game plan was I hope the dump it off the Clemente Bridge.

Its called not executing. There are no magic play calls. You practice a gameplan all week. You study prior games and tendencies. You calls plays based on those things and down and distance. Execute the plays...the playcalling wasn't putting them in awkward third down distances the execution on first and second was putting them in awkward third down distances

I agree. This drives me nuts on here. They act like the team practices and prepared differently for home and away games. Same coaches and team week in and week out , not always same execution and desire each week.

really hard to tell honestly

perhaps some of both..

I think that no 2 WR, just took the O down a notch.

And who knows if they dialed up plays the practiced on that were successful or if it was just a matter of Ben not being comfy with some of the newer WRs.

To me at times it simply isn't enough people getting open, which again points back to the 2 WR and Green's issues.

With Green back, he should be a decent help.

And a good gameplan can help your WRs if you play to their strengths... As well as in this case, Dolphins weaknesses.

If that is a trend it is up to the coaches to mix it up, and change it up.

Or get the right combination of production and execution on the field.

Well this is what I saw. They came out in tight formations and tried to impose there will upon the Ravens. Problem is that in those formations it is easier to double AB. Also Ben being Ben, he has a tendency to be fooled when coverages are easily disguised. When they spread them out in the last third of the game they had to declare coverage more. Plus they refused to play man for fear that Bell would kill them. This created the zone holes that are very hard to defend when you have two guys on the same page like Ben and AB.

It can be summed up easily. When plays fail, the coaches are freaking idiots. When plays succeed, the players are awesome. There are no other possibilities.

absolutely...unless the player is not well liked by some here, then the player just got lucky or the other team screwed up.....

Coolie...let me "fix" that for ya...

Our defense is playing better, but they still aren't that good to where we can pound Bell all game, even if he is averaging 4 ypc, yeah 8 min scoring drives are great, but I'd rather open the passing game up early and get two 4 min scoring drives. Our defense has been on the field alot the past two games, we need to score around 30 to win, not sure why we wait until we're behind to speed up the offense.
