This loss is on TOMLIN

https://www.post-gazette.com/sports...rkansas-state-red-wolves/stories/201801220147

Fitchner Tomlin and Butler were friends and it may be a problem if he doesn’t treat them like any other assistant...

We already know he axed lebeau to keep Butler, he has retained Smith through multiple sub par special teams seasons, and Fitchner has no nfl experience outside of this team... if Dan Rooney was still with us and we underperform in this postseason, Tomlin would have gotten ultimatums on replacing some of those guys...

I thought of Tonkin was gonna win coach of the year, it would have been last year.

Well I can’t disagree with Coach LeBeau being let go so as to promote Butler. Butler kinda forced the direction as he had been waiting almost 10 years and was probably going to accept a DC job elsewhere. With all the old guard players retiring or being too slow, Coach Buts helped rebuild the D in Tomlin’s image. I don’t think Coach LeBeau would have.

Fichtner became the buffer between Ben and Haley. It was definitely needed late in Haley’s tenure. Haley did everything he was asked to do, except he had a grating personality after time. The line of communication between Haley and Ben became Fichtner, so Ben was receptive when he was doing the game plans. TBH, even with a successful year, there could be changes just because you can tell how disappointed Tomlin is with this offense right now.

Until Tomlin shows me something besides slick talk and actually benches these guys dropping the damn ball and tells Fitchner go hide in the locker room it’s all talk

All that is great, but we know Tomlin had to strip defensive playcalling from Butler last year, kept third down playcalling away from him this year, and fitchner has been a hot mess for two years now...

Giving these guys a chance isn’t the issue... retaining them if they cannot deliver what we need absolutely is...

And the biggest bellcow to date has been the repeated excuses for Danny Smith...

I don't know why Tomlin always gets a bye when it comes to the offense, he's said himself he makes all the big calls, 4th down etc. Fichtner and Tomlin are long time friends, Tomlins first hire. Tomlin signs off on this offense every week, if Tomlin wanted to run the ball more, we'd be trying to run more

Has Tomlin taken over 3rd down calls this year? I haven’t heard or read he has. Butler has done a pretty good this year even with the injuries.

All ST coaches are practically the same. They are only as good as their last play. ST is a wildcard for every team. ST coaches are recycled among head coach hirings all the time. How many times did Bobby April get opportunities? I lost count after 6.

Everyone knows Ben tells Tomlin to shut up and get back in his office.

Keeping 1-2 bad coaches on the team is a Tomlin hallmark. It keeps him off the radar.

Tomlin sucks.

Week after week this team finds a new way to not be prepared.

Worst 11-2 team this league has seen in a long time.

I will say this as an on-the-fence Tomlin guy, this team absolutely does not know how to handle a little success. Every ******* time they go out and do their jobs for a period, you start to get players (even Tomlin) talking way too far into the future, the preparation and fine-tuning looks lazy and they just seem to go on cruise-control. The arrogance is maddening.

Another thing, I don't if it's been brought up or not, but how many missed ******* tackles did they have last night?

That's a very good point, I'm an on the fence Tomlin guy as well. I think he'd be alot better if he'd get a good offensive mind guy in here and just let him do his thing, but Tomlin isn't a good X's and O's guy, and you have to be able to make adjustments, but he's gotten totally out coached the past two weeks in the second half when both Wash and Buffalo made very obvious adjustments.

**** I think most are on the fence Tomlin guys. And I know no Steeler fan will be happy with 1 and done this year. They have some games left to turn around this mediocre offensive play. I am still in wait and see mode but also know we can only hope for assistant coach changes next season. We know Tomlin is going nowhere anytime soon. So all we can do is try to enjoy what is left of the season.

I'll say this as well - JuJu dancing on their logo before the game is just arrogant and stupid. I know he was one of the few bright spots last night, but it's just totally unnecessary and disrespectful. And speaking of stupid, you notice those "Tomlinisms" they put up on the screen were Captain Obvious quotes that were not intended to be complimentary (at least to me).

And the backhanded comments about Tomlin's cockiness in school and how nothing's changed? Almost as if fans aren't the only ones tired of this ****. You saw how fired up McDermott and the Buffalo team was last night, they knew they put an ***-whoopin' on an arrogant team and their HC.

Arrogance is hanging on stupid cliche like "the standard is the standard" and expecting back-ups to play to the level of starters. If every back-up was capable of playing to that standard, they would not be back-ups. Instead of adapting our game plans, play calls, and scheme to fit what we have and their abilities, we continually try to pound round pegs into square holes. If our Receivers are so concerned about YAC that they are dropping easy passes, start calling some routes that get them past the sticks so they can make a reception without having to worry about the YAC to get to the marker. That level of arrogance and stubbornness is why this team has issues late in the season every year. As adversity hits, we refuse to adapt or come up with anything different to take advantage of our strengths and other teams weaknesses. It is beyond infuriating to watch this team do the same thing year in and year out.

The biggest take away from the game I had was halftime, McDermott "we have alot of adjustments to make" Tomlin, "we aren't making plays" as usual putting it back on the players.

Early in the year I actually gave Tomlin some love bur for the love of me what he does at half time makes the team worse and when he gets that look in his eyes you know the party is over. last night Terrico was pumping Tomlin up with all his lovey words made me sick. For Gods sake it is football . Get in somone face please at least once. He allows this team to make a play and run to the end zone to do the pugh pugh dance and they are getting beat. Tomlin please tell us why you think it is a good call in two games in a row, third and one and third and three you throw long. What exactly was the game plan last night after getting run over the coal all week about these quick short passes and teams catching on... first play short dropped pass. This team under these coaches continue to go South. The secondary cannot cover and cannot tackle. The offensive line cannot run block for what is a non threating running backs. Does anyone see us going far in the play offs with what is being shown on the field. Wake up Tomlin

What exactly does Tomlin do? Does anyone know? We know he has no input in the offensive. According to most, that is Ben. So Tomlin deserves no credit for earlier in the year when we gashing teams.

Defensively, I hear Butler get most of the blame. Tomlin does get credit when defense makes plays and it looks like adjustments were made. When the defense sucks and the so called adjustments don't work, that is on Butler.

Special teams, Tomlin has nothing to do with that as well.

Maybe there are phrases and sayings in the locker room that Tomlin designed? Other than that, I have no clue what he actually does.

And, every last bit of it is on Tomlin, for his decisions or non-decisions.

On the fence? I walked away from that fence miles ago. Ben's career given to this clown. Ben is the only reason Tomlin looks good on paper. Wait until he's gone. Who will bail him out then?

The defense had to play damn near perfect with no injuries last year for Tomlin to stay at .500. That won't happen again. Tomlin is average to below average, it's not even debatable.
