That's not true Cope, the threat of physical violence can also be construed as assault. For example, pointing a hand gun at somebody is absolutely "Assault with a deadly weapon". Threatening to punch someone in the face, particularly during an altercation is absolutely grounds for assault. And I am willing to bet you, given the way it all play out, that it would be EASY to make assault stick given the fact that he DID in fact later break her jaw.

It definitely has legs in civil court, which is why he paid a settlement. In criminal court this doesn't even go to trial. Here's an instance where the video actually hurt her case. If this exact same incident, happened the exact same way, without a video of it, he would have been detained, the case probably would have been tried criminally, and he could have served time for it.

3) The Bengals. This was a totally stupid pick on their part, not because of Mixon, but because of the opportunity. Cincinnati took Mixon near the top of the 2nd round. He could have been drafted much later.

How can you say that? Conley had already been drafted and it was predicted he would drop into the third round.

If thy thought they needed a RB that badly...badly enough to take Mixon...they could have had Connor or Cook in the first. Cook is definitely a 1st round talent.

I have a few thoughts I have on the Joe Mixon situation:

1) Let's say he had been prosecuted and sent to jail for his assault and battery on the girl in the cafe'. He probably would have gotten at a maximum 18 months...maybe. So, since this incident occurred 3 1/2 years ago, shouldn't he get the benefit of the doubt that most others get who serve minor stints in jail? Since he did not serve time, is he to be punished indefinitely by the public? The dude was an incoming freshman at Oklahoma. He has had plenty of time to recover and grow. Would I have drafted him? Yes, if I needed a solid, talented RB. This kid is as good as they get, he made a mistake.

I'd suggest that if he had served his time, OK wouldn't have kept him on the team and, he'd not be in a position to get drafted.

2) Amelia, the girl, was punched. She wasn't raped, sexually assaulted or murdered. She wasn't beaten to a pulp, she was punched, once. Yes, Mixon broke her jaw with his uppercut, but she's fully healed at this point. People are acting like he has violated her civil rights. He punched her. Had it been a guy, this wouldn't even make the news...since it is a girl, he's being punished indefinitely.

I guess I've just never been the type of guy who would hit a female for pushing me or a slap. Heck, I don't even hit dudes just for a push. Even an attempt at a closed handed hit, changes the rules. Never had a woman try that with me, though, so not sure how I'd react. I doubt the way he did, though as I know how to avoid being hit by someone smaller than me....

I'm not sure I understand.

Violated and violence are not related...violate means things such as trespass, disrupt, infringe, offend, encroach.
The word "violated" is also used to describe sexual assault or rape. That of course didn't happen

He approached her, not the other way around and probably offended her with what he said.

She was violated in some way, otherwise why the hell would she start pushing him?


That said, being offended did not give her a pass to start hitting him. He probably said something that offended that poor sensitive woman

reviewing the video, she comes into the place and is upset. whatever it was that happened prior led her to remove herself from his presence.

she lashed out, verbally and physically.

she was being trailed and had already retreated once. then he came at her again, inside the place. She may have felt cornered and wanted him to leave - hence the push.

and let's be honest... she didn't push him hard enough to warrant his actions. She never should have laid hands on him in the first place, but in reality emotions do tend to overtake sensibility. Her shove absolutely, in no way, is equivocal to his overhand slap/smash of her face resulting in the injuries she sustained.

the guy at that point in his life was a piece of ****. he should have been kicked off the Oklahoma football team.

Instead, taxpayers got to pay for the education of this guy.

Not that Florida State is a bastion of morality, but similar incident happened there. Dude slapped a chick.
