With their ******* ineligible receiver's not being properly identified to the referees BY the player as they should as the player either breaks the huddle or comes on to the field...

A quote from Pete Carroll regarding how the officials are "trying" to deal with the **'s ******* with the rule bend.

"It's really on us to see it. The officials do what they do but we still have to find it because it could happen like it did to the Colts. We're very much in tune with it. It's just been part of the preparation so it's not a big deal to us now. "

Although Carroll said the signals were new, league officials said referees have been using the signals, including in the AFC championship game.

Carroll also said the referees made a mistake in the AFC championship game, when a player reported in as a different status. The player remained in the game for the next play, his eligibility was unclear, and the Patriots scored a touchdown.

He didn't specify, but Patriots lineman Nate Solder, caught a touchdown pass against the Colts.

"The Colts got fooled on that play, on the next player reporting eligible it was a different player so it got confusing and they miss-covered the guy," Carroll said. "We don't want that to happen if we can help it, so we called in and asked about that."

Simple enough. The referees should have called that touchdown back right then and there. The replay should have shown that the **'s were using a different guy as the eligible receiver from the one who had been identified the previous play and simply called the ******* play back due to purposeful misdirection of the eligible receiver rule.

What ******* weasels. They can't just ******* win the game. They have to cheat.

yep cheating *******

I'm a little confused here; you said the Steelers didn't cheat with steroids, because they weren't breaking any rules. But the Pats are also not breaking any rules doing this, but, in this case, not breaking any rules is still cheating. Do you know the definition of "double standard?"

The lineman that caught the TD reported as an eligible receiver so the points are legit. If the Colts didn't cover the guy that doesn't make the Patriots cheaters.
Referees are supposed to announce when linemen report as an eligible receiver, if they didn't then the Colts had a beef. The Rats got burned by the Pats on an "ineligible" receiver. They covered a guy that stayed behind the LOS and a pas got caught downfield in the open zone. Harbage whined he didn't have adequate time to change his defense. The rules are in the NFL rulebook. A coaches job includes knowing the rules and shame on you if you lose a game not knowing the rules. Apparently Bill Belichick knows the rules and uses them to his advantage. Pete Carroll is a smart guy and likely knows the rules as well. Can't wait to see what twist wily old Belichick will pull out Sunday.

The issue is more with the Refs. They did not properly alert the defense who was eligible.

I don't think thie will be a big deal in the Super Bowl. The Refs will make a point to be clearer when announcing. But the main reason is Seattle is not a complicated defense. Defenses have become complicated with lots of substitutions of role players. Seattle doesn't do that.

My guess is we won't see this much in the Super Bowl. It only works as a surprise. If the defense is prepared, then you can pretty much ignore a WR who is split wide but is ineligible. He's not allowed to go downfield until the ball is thrown or if it's a run play. Then he's just a blocker. A less effective blocker than the OL he replaced.

The refs are suppose to announce who reports as eligible on every play. I have heard Mike Adams name announced, two or three plays in a row before. If this formation is not against the rules, I don't see what the big deal is. They are trying to exploit some mismatches by outsmarting the defense and if it works, great. These types of mismatches and gameplanning is why the Patriots are competing for a Super Bowl every year and we have back-to-back eight-win seasons.

Offensive tackle Cameron Fleming reported as an eligible receiver on the play before Solder’s TD, but returned to an ineligible lineman on the next play. NFL rules state Fleming can only switch from eligible to ineligible, or vice versa, if he sits out for one play or if there is a stoppage in the game.

Illegal play, should've been penalized. And that's straight from the Boston Globe.

Anyway, there's a much easier way to put a stop to it. Light up Solder's knees and then they're down a starting lineman.

tell you what bring up the SOS again or the fact you claim to be a Steelers fan...Your blah..blah has about run its course.U bounce from thread to thread spouting the SOS...only looking to incite..

Again with this "it's the Officials' fault" for not alerting the defense of who's eligible!!!

That's complete bullshit... The rule is simple enough to understand:

1) Anyone in the backfield is eligible
2) End-man on the Line of Scrimmage is eligible

That's it. Pee-wee, High School and College players have to make that determination themselves but suddenly you need the officials' help when you get to PROFESSIONAL football? Come on man... That's just stupid.

That's what I'm referencing.

Tape,

I think you nailed it. My one big beef with this stunt is that is was specifically designed to take advantageof two things, as follows:

1. The refs were ill prepared and inconsistent in how to appoach this rule--advantage Cheats.

2. The offense has the inherent of the initiative--the defense is reacting to what the offense does. The refs are very reluctant to diminish or remove that advantage--advantage Cheats.

When something like this happens in a game, the refs need to take the time to get it right and not allow circumstances to force their hand.
