This article nails it "Where was Bell"

I soon as I read Overtime I stopped reading.. how about Scobee makes a 41 yard FG and that game doesn't get to OT.

Yes, the play calling in OT was questionable to say the least but to blame play calling in time that shouldn't have even been played seems inaccurate.

A simple 41 yd FG ends the game, it was missed.. that is who is responsible for the loss IMO.

I was thinking where was williams as well...I remember him having one carry and he got like 6-7 yards. I think each back should have gotten like 15 touches...

The Steelers rushed the ball 33 times. Only 33 times with the best RB in the league and your franchise QB on the bench. That is mind boggling right there.

Of the 33 rushing attempts, here is a breakdown of who did what:

DeAngelo Williams: 2 rushes. 6% of the carries.
Vick: 9 rushes. 27.3% of the carries.
Bell: 22 rushes. 66.6% of the caries.

Fumble prone Vick got 27.3% of the rushing attempts.

Bell AND DeAngelo BOTH should have been used much more.

What a stupid mindset, no offense. Oh well our kicker just missed a kick he should make so let's turn this into a shitshow! No. Sorry. That doesn't fly.

Who does Tomlin think he is, Pete Carroll?

you are missing the point. No matter what happened before, right there, in that moment, 4th and 1, 3rd and 4th and 2, you can't **** up and excuse it on "well, if my kicker hadn't missed I wouldn't have to be calling this play"

Those stats are not even close to a representative of the actual play calls. Vick had ONE rushing attempt that was actually a play for him to rush. The others he had were scrambles.

In my opinion part of the stupidity was believing that Scobee would make that 41 yarder. Now you can say he is a professional, but ask yourself this. How many of his kicks has he hit down the middle since he got here. And you can include extra points that the kid on my Bantam team could make at a 50% clip.

That 3rd and 2 should have been a run first and then maybe 4th down is inches to go and easier to attain. Really ****** sequence for us

exactly, no excuses for it

I knew Tomlin would screw this up with Williams and Bell. He's going to run the wheels off of Bell until he burns this kid out at a young age rather than utilize both these backs. I would have had double set backfields where you could option to pass to Bell or run Williams. TOmlin does not know what to do with the bevy of talent on this team, period. He's clueless.

My point is this conversation shouldn't even be taking place. If the FG is made this issue isn't even brought up unless it's from people who need something to ***** about after a win.

So you wanted Tomlin to call for a punt at that point of the field? That's ridiculous.. or did you want him to go for it? If he went for it and they failed then he would be called out for that too. He played the odds of our FG kicker being able to make it. I'm not a huge fan of Tomlin but damn, let the players take some blame once in a while.

Fgs are missed all the time. Especially by this kicker lately. A kicker we gave up a 6th round pick for no less. It still doesn't excuse the absolute failure of our coaching staff, namely tomlin and Haley, after it happens.

mdk2, He can't make the FG. He lacks the confidence and the ability at this time.

The coaching staff ought to be well aware of this. Unfortunately, they continue to put Scobee in situations where he showcases his inability to succeed. That only decreases his confidence. Ultimately the coaches are destroying a kicker. As fans we're pissed at Scobee, but it's a confidence position and the coaches are putting him in a complete no-win situation. It's like they're purposely trying to destroy him.

"Hey Josh. I know you can't possibly make this what with your messed up head and all, but why don't you run out there and blow this critical kick so the entire fan base can utterly hate you. Then I'll have somebody to blame on Monday morning and if necessary I can fire you in order to save my ***. Now honestly, I COULD put you in a better situation and only have you kick gimme field goals for awhile so you could build your confidence up. I could do that in order to save a kicker and possibly have a critical piece in place later in the season when I may NEED a reliable kicker. But, for now, I'd rather **** with you and have a scapegoat."

Well when the coaches feel the need to coach around the kicker's mentality then it's time to cut ties and find someone else. If he's out there playing then you put him in position to make a FG he is perfectly capable of making. It's unbelievable people are blaming the HC for making the kicker do his job. The guy is making millions a year to kick, I think a 12 year veteran can figure out how to bounce from a missed FG the previous attempt.
Blaming the HC is a big time reach.

What?!? Scoobe is a professional athlete, not some junior high schooler. He is paid to kick the ball through the uprights. In a close game what are we supposed to do just go for it so we dont risk hurting Scoobes feelings. To me that is just ridiculous. We cant really pick and choose when / where we kick FGs. The kicker has to be ready when we are in a reasonable range. 42 and 49 yrd FGs are certainly not unreasonable for a professional kicker to make. If he cant handle it he needs to move on. There is no doubt the coaching sucked, but still does not excuse missing two kicks to win the game.

I blame the HC for putting the ball in Vick's hands multiple times on short yardage situations that could have iced the game when we have the best RB in the league. Also for not letting Scobee redeem himself in OT.

Well then you must agree with my post that the HC shouldn't be to blame for sending him out there to kick a 41 yard FG to ice the game? I agree the OT play calls were mind blowing but my point it should have never went to OT, the kicker should be able to make a 41 yard FG.. especially a 12-13 year veteran. Scobee is more to blame than Tomlin, IMO.

Do you remember the SB against the Packers where we were averaging like 6 yards per rush and inexplicably threw 40 times - and lost? The second half of this game made me that angry.

Definitely. There's no reason Scobee shouldn't have been able to hit that kick. They woulda been forced to drive 80 yards for a TD against a defense that was shutting their **** down

Did you see how many Ravens they were putting In the box? I don't think they didn't want to run but they were loading up to stop it and daring Vick to throw on them.

I would have liked to see them throw downfield more>

That said Bell should have got the ball on those short yardage plays. I need a yard I will take my chances with him over Vick, or Scobee. Anyday!

Williams should see the field more. It seems he is capable of taking one to the house every time he touches the ball. Save Bell the load

Harbaugh is playing Tomlin like a patsy. He knows punching the Steelers in the face and playing very physical and on the edge is how to win. Cowher did that to the Ravens and other division opponents in his time. To this day I can't see what Tomlins mode of operation is. Cowher ingrained that identity into the players. They continued that identity for Tomlins first 4 years and then as they retired, that identity went with them. Steelers have many good players and still have Ben. But the kick *** mentality is lip service by Tomlin. He demands it but doesn't coach it.

True. They have out-physicalled us in most games over the past few years.
