I don't know what the specifics are as to what issues he was supposed to be dealing with more effectively or, indeed, what his powers are as president of the university. Does he have the power to expel a student for using the "N" word? Is that the appropriate punishment? What if it is a first time offense? Second? When does it become an issue for a particular student that it goes all the way to the President of the University? Is it a group of students who are connected in some way? What is the appropriate punishment and can the President impose that punishment.

Its as simple as reading....there have been many articles and editorials written, personal accounts written about in stories on the web. When you have faculty claiming that they themselves were called the "n" word by OTHER faculty, whose job is it to purge the origins of such vitriolic hatred ? Its not the students or other faculty. Its school leadership, of which the Chancellor and President are part of. These incidents aren't of the trivial nature..........they are blatant incidents that serve to intimidate or invoke anger. The "****" swastika was the latest. The yelling of racial slurs at Black students on campus was the latest, but again, they were part of an ongoing problem at the university. Cotton balls thrown on the grounds of the Black Cultural Center was another egregious display of racial insensitivity. These are but a few.

As for this "white male privilege" claim, I haven heard anything spoken about this from leaders of the protest. Perhaps this is some method to detract, deflect or whatever but the fact remains, that when you have a student culture of racism, supplemented by faculty that itself has invoked elements of racism, its the university leaderships job to respond and deal with those elements quickly. Duke did it, Univ of Oklahoma did it. Again, what was Mizzou's issue ?

As university president, theres no question as to the authority and power he has/had. To suggest he was in a fog over his responsibilities or his powers doesn't make sense. And yes, he does have the power to expel students that use racially offensive language. Most schools have codes of conduct that students must adhere to. When the video showing racist chants at Oklahoma circulated around social media, the university president expelled those responsible and it went even further and shut down the fraternity. So, there's a hint as to what authority and power the president of the school has.
 
The white privieige garbage was in there list of demands published in the local newspaper. You just can't make this **** up. It is demand number 1. My translation is give me all of this **** because I'm black and your white.

III. We demand that the University of Missouri meets the Legion of Black Collegians' demands that were presented in 1969 for the betterment of the black community.

IV. We demand that the University of Missouri creates and enforces comprehensive racial awareness and inclusion curriculum throughout all campus departments and units, mandatory for all students, faculty, staff, and administration. This curriculum must be vetted, maintained, and overseen by a board comprised of students, staff, and faculty of color.

V. We demand that by the academic year 2017-2018, the University of Missouri increases the percentage of black faculty and staff campus-wide to 10%.

VI. We demand that the University of Missouri composes a strategic 10 year plan by May 1, 2016 that will increase retention rates for marginalized students, sustain diversity curriculum and training, and promote a more safe and inclusive campus.

VII. We demand that the University of Missouri increases funding and resources for the University of Missouri Counseling Center for the purpose of hiring additional mental health professionals — particularly those of color, boosting mental health outreach and programming across campus, increasing campus-*wide awareness and visibility of the counseling center, and reducing lengthy wait times for prospective clients.

VIII. Awesome....he relented and stepped down, mission accomplished......**** him. The university can bring someone in that gives a **** and adopt the no-tolerance stance on that racist bs. Great job to the faculty, students and those that stood united against that culture.

As I noted. If one of your demands is "admit/apologize for your white privilege", I tune you out. That means that whatever else you had to say doesn't get heard and I no longer give a **** about you. Want me to listen? Shut up with the stupid **** and go after real results. Hence, I haven't read much about it because of the ridiculous demand. Maybe, after that ridiculous demand, everything else is bullshit too? As I said, I'm a cynic and won't waste my time on learning any more about people this with rhetoric,

I'd suggest that neither you or I know what they President's power is. Can he fire/suspend faculty that has tenure? Seems unlikely. Maybe he can, but I thought that the point of tenure is that you couldn't be fired. As I said, I don't know. I didn't suggest he was in a fog about it, I suggested that, maybe, he doesn't have the power to suspend students/faculty until a full investigation has been completed. Otherwise, he gets a **** ton of calls and suspends people based upon bullshit.

I don't know what went on. What I do know is that the media will hype up and feed us a bunch of crap about something that is supposed to be racially motivated only to turn into mime's when their bullshit is revealed.
 
What constitutes a student to feel "marginalized?" That seems to be the new buzzword. Everyone around us is marginalized except for those who exert white privilege....whatever that is.

I cant begin to weigh in on exactly what was meant by the white male privilege piece. But don't allow that snippet of material to overshadow the overall issue. And even if a psychologist gave you a detailed explanation for what white male privilege was, you wouldn't accept it anyway.

I do know that Wolfe's reactions to protestors (refusing to acknowledge the issues that have been repeatedly placed before his office) at the homecoming parade didn't set well with the student leaders and this lead to students "turning up the heat" on the president. I think a couple days later the football players joined the protest.

The students aren't trying to appeal to the public, which you are part of the public. You don't need to listen. They werent ASKING YOU TO LISTEN.This wasn't ONLY about white privilege. Im sorry that you seem to have such difficulty parsing through the issues that these students had. They presented the issues to the appropriate individuals. Those issues were ignored repeatedly and things ramped up from there. It could've all been avoided except Wolfe felt in his mind that it wasn't urgent enough. Perhaps this is where the statement about privilege comes into play. I dunno.......perhaps that group has a page on Facebook and you can pose the question there and they'll be happy to provide an answer as to why white privilege was invoked.

Listen, racial issues aren't your cup of tea. If youre not interested in such stories, skip those links....in your mind, perhaps its just another group of negroes bitching and complaining. Its sad if you feel that way but when folks feel that their environment is laced with elements of hatred and intimidation, they SHOULD speak out and have those concerns addressed. Ive read about the events that lead to this and they are well within their rights to be upset. But, they accomplished part of their objective. He resigned and now its up to the board to sit down with the students in the near future and rectify those other outstanding issues. Anybody that ***** on the movement at MU needs their standards of humanity questioned. It was big enough that staff, coaches and alumni gave their backing.

Question for you.....how do YOU feel about differences in pay between male and female in the labor force, taking into account same levels of qualification and experience ? Men make more than women all things being equal except gender. Do you support unequal pay between male v female ? Would you understand how a woman would feel "marginalized" when she has the exact same credentials, qualifications and experience if not more, only to be paid less than her male counterparts ? Im presenting you something you might be able to relate to with regards to having feelings of being "marginalized"

That is a racist statement in itself. I'm at fault because I was born white. Go ******* jump off a bridge. I have worked hard my entire life for every damn thing I have. Nobody let me in college because of my skin color I got in on my grades, nobody gave me a job because I met a certain quota, I got it with my earned degree.See how it works.
 
I liked black people more when they used to beat someone's *** if they called them a racial slur. Now they expect the University President to do something about it and act like a little ******* if he doesn't.

When I was in college, there were blacks who walked around in t-shirts that read "It's a black thing, you wouldn't understand." Do you suppose they wanted to engage in open dialogue?

Whenever I see someone attempt to point out the double standards that exist regarding racism, they are dismissed as ignorant or racist with no explanation or argument. How is that open dialogue?

I don't have any problems parsing anything. From the list of demands someone posted "acknowledgin his white privelege " was the very first thing listed. If that list is wrong, say so. If it is not, this makes me believe that it is possible that anything else they say may be blown out of proportion. When. You start with bullshit, what follows also usually smells.

I think you may need the one having trouble parsing issues. Having a **** ton of people join in means nothing withat regads to thensure validity ofor themail claims. It means the situation got enough media and hype to get people to join.

Maybe all their issues are legitimate. I don't know. I've seen too much media hype to jump in with both feet.

All issues are my cup of tea. I'm an intelligent, open minded thinker. Don't start with bullshit and I will listen. I grew up in South Arkansas. I've seen a lot of real racism and discrimination. I know it is there. I don't ignore it. I have to look no further than the edited Zimmerman phone call and picture to know the media makes these stories what they want them to be rather than what they are. If you don't like my attitude about it don't blame me, blame the media, and the "Reverends" Jackson and Sharpton. Everytime white person treats a black person like ****, it may not be racial, it might just be that the white guy is an *******.
 
I believe the civil rights movement, as pioneered by MLK is no more. The old activists who are still around, have turned into race baiting opportunists.Seriously, do they really represent black interests, or do they only come out of the shadows when there is a buck to be made? I think what we have now is I'm gettin mine vs you gettin yours.Whatever sympathy the civil rights movement had with middle America is lost....an opportunity squandered by those who chose to exploit the system, rather than to embrace it and gain from it. Yeah, the white guilted liberals will still come out and support, but the rest are jaded and tired of the racism drone. I'd be willing to bet that the grandparents of those protesting don't see the sense to it, the demands being inflammatory in themselves. White privilege...really? This group's gripes might have a legit basis, but this psuedo-revolutionary rhetoric, which may have results on campus, doesn't play well in the heartland. What it does is make them appear like the entitled millennial brats. Welcome to the new reality.

I feel like most of the information we have been fed on this is more hype and bullshit. While there will be some of this, the extent, IMO has been exaggerated. The situation is another thing on which the "leaders" have politicized it to the point it is hard to know what to believe.

Seriously ?....whats Bullshit is when you have trash that permeates modern day campuses of the United States and try and pollute an environment of higher learning by doing wretched acts like swastikas on dormitory buildings, littering the grounds of the Black Cultural Center with cotton, calling students racially offensive words with the intent to intimidate and the head administrator does nothing to address the aforementioned.

When students approach the top tier administration about these concerns and nothing is being done, then, yeah, I can understand folks claiming to feel "marginalized". His lack of action cut him square in the *** and now hes "former" president. Perhaps now the university can go about bringing in a more understanding leader, and as has been demanded, start to staff with more diversity and make the learning environment at Mizzou more enjoyable.

But tell, why does this event bother you so much ? Do you think students went too far ? Asked for too much ? I don't.....all of my cohorts of diverse demographics agree It was the right thing to do. This isn't the 30's or 40's anymore...that racist bullshit (and folks placating to it) has no place in this country anymore.
