The Steelers are just 4 people ( Changes ) away from going to the Superbowl

I haven't blamed anyone for what happened in the *'s game (other than cheating), so not sure why it bothers you that I haven't criticized MR HEAD COACH MICHAEL VINCENT LOMBARDI TOMLIN. The idea that he should be fired for not winning the AFCCG is ******* laughable.

As to the part I bolded, if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.

I never said he should be fired. Don't take my criticism of Tomlin as agreeing with Coaches premise. I just don't get the blind faith for the guy. That's all.

When the average fan can come up with a better defensive gameplan against the Pats, it's tough not to question the coaching staff from my vantage point.

I disagree with Ark and his assessment.

I think we have a very talented team that made the playoffs and reached the championship game in spite of Mr. Tomlin not because of Mr. Tomlin.

When we got to the championship game and we clearly needed help from somebody on the sideline Who could analyze our opponents scheme and make adjustments to beat it, Mr. Tomlin stood there with eyes as big as saucers not comprehending what was going on.

The falcons were winning the game because the front 4 was terrorizing Brady. As soon as that stopped Brady carved up their man to man. It was the players beating their man not scheme. The Steelers front 4 did nothing of the sort except Hargrave. Pressure beats Brady not what you playing behind it. He carves up either when there is no pressure in his face.

Everyone mentions we played Man to man in 2011 but forget to mention Woodley was a beast that day I believe

And quit losing to bad teams and not having home field in the playoffs.

Losing to bad teams falls right in line with what I have been preaching for years under Tomlin. We play conservative instead of aggressive. Too many times we are playing not to lose. You should go out in every game and play to win for 60 minutes. I don't care who you are playing or how many points you are up, you keep trying to put up as many points as you can until the final whistle blows.

Good point however, even if we got pressure, the CBs were playing so far off the WR's Brady would just dump it off before the pressure affected him. It was a combo of the Falcons front 4 creating pressure along with the aggressive man to man that caused the Pats fits and any team that plays this way usually does give them fits.

Aggressive man to man doesn't really do any good by itself against any team as long as the QB has all day to throw...eventually someone would get open. You need the combo of 4-5 man pressure and tight man to man. If we couldn't get straight up 4 man front pressure, then how about some exotic blitzes the Steelers have been known for? But we saw very few of those and decided to drop 7-8 in coverage the entire game. So not only did the coaches decide not to apply pressure, even when they did bring the occassional blitz, the dbacks were still 8 yards from the closest WR so it was pointless. Literally the exact defense that has been proven to not work against the Pats over and over again.

But we don't know what a combo of pressure and zone would of done because we didn't get consistent pressure. Shot we didn't get any pressure. There were times the falcons didn't get pressure in the first half but because they had gotten so much Brady was still off in his throws. Feeling rushed. But once that pressure eased and then became nothing Brady calmed down and picked them apart. The key is getting pressure for 4 quarters so that even when you are not the QB is still jittery in the pocket.

And the fourth would be a head coach who understands alignments and plays them accordingly to the other team's strength and weaknesses and also understands the math on when to use timeouts.

Yep.....lot of those just laying around.......sigh....

I believe this, and the first player is Bryant who did not play last season! The Steelers score on average about a touchdown less when he does not play. A premier level talent and the best deep threat in the NFL!

The second player is a Cornerback who's better than a declining Gay or Cockrell. Gay looked slower this year. Cockrell more of a package zone guy.

The third player is an edge rusher.

So we will not win a super bowl for a very long time as Tomlin is going nowhere.

We need to draft any combination of OLB or Dlineman that can put pressure on the QB. In my opinion that is all we really need. everything else would be just adding to a super bowl team

Re-watch the game if you think the Falcons played press, man-coverage the 2nd half. Instead, I saw the DB's 5-8 yards off the LOS, and playing a good deal of zone.

I suspect that when the Falcons went up 28-3, their DC figured he was willing to let the Patsies play dink-and-dunk and chew up the clock. Hey, guess what, didn't work.

I don't care what they played in the secondary in the second half. The issue was they weren't getting pressure they got in the first half.

yep

really it comes down to having enough players who can pressure him...

I actually wouldn't be upset with a OLB and then a DE (best pass rushing prospects available) in one and two.

Even Rooney mentioned that the pass rush needs to be better.

And that is telling.

That was the game Woodley shredded his hamstring about to knock the snot out of Brady. I remember that. Woodley was dominant all game

Its easier to get pressure when he has no one to dump the ball off to. The Falcons got a coverage sack or two and got some hits on Mr Bundchen because it took a while for his receivers to get open.

troof!

Ah the irony
The defensive scheme in the second half of the superbowl is totally irrelevant. Anyone that watched that game that has half a brain knows the Falcons had the win. Instead of running the ball and the clock and kicking a fg to go up by 11. The coaches tried to get cute and they LOST THANKS TO THE COACHING.

Agreed. The offense gave that game away in more ways than 1. The defense was also on the field for about twice as many snaps as a normal game so of course they're going to be run down the 2nd half. The first half showed the exact blueprint to beat the Pats and it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. But apparently that's what we need on our coaching staff.

Point blank the defense got gassed in the second half. Go look up time of possession. Instead of running clock and sustaining drives, the offense went 3 and out, turned the ball over and left way too much time for Brady. Shanahan even said in his intro press conference with SF that he cost the team the game with his play calling. There's no way a Super Bowl team should be blowing a 25 point lead. Ne is a very good team but they were absolutely whipped by Atlanta until Atlanta decided not to run out clock in the 2nd half.

From 28-3, to 28-9 with a missed XP and 28-12 with a FG, they kept the team in the game, the offense just did them no favors. Fumble with a short field then the TD to 28-20. They get the ball down into FG range and go backwards. The play calling killed them.

When you play a well coached team, you need to execute and can not make mistakes. Atlanta should have had a blow out win and instead they utterly collapsed. As much as I dislike NE, kudos to them for not quitting and winning the game.
