The Signing of Dwayne Haskins is Already a Success

Like in preseason's past, my guess is Rudolph will start with the 1's next week, Haskins with the 1's the following week and then Ben with the 1's for a couple series in the final preseason game. If Haskins doesn't get that opportunity with the 1's, then you know he has no chance at being the No. 2 this year and is still battling for a roster spot.

Preseason game #3 is typically always the small sample dry run for the starters. Ben will likely get at least 3 series that game. #4 will be all back-ups, the game that determines which fringe players make it or not.

Probably very true but I'd like to see BEN get a tad more work in. Same with many other starters. Seems we traditionally have a slow start to get in sinc and i THINK a little more pre-season work would help that out a lot.

Salute the nation

I think DH is more mobile than MR and has a livelier arm. Thought he was more accurate last nite too. MR had JW on a crossing pattern and threw waaay behind him. Also like Ballage - not sure what his deal is, but he runs pretty strong, has some moves, some speed once past the line and seems to catch well. Watched him at last Saturdays practice. I wouldn't mind him as #2.

He knew he could be out of football if he did not act like he cares, long way to go to make decision on Haskins. So good for Steelers if he does well and if not well they are not out much

He is a no risk guy… 0 signing bonus… 850k contract, same as dobbs except dobbs got a 50k signing bonus they are on the hook for regardless… keeping Haskins over dobbs costs them 50k … keeping dobbs over Haskins costs them nothing… it’s absolutely a win win… he earns it and free asset, he can’t cut it and cutting him costs zip

What we need from our backup QB's is to run the offense, make smart plays, keep mistakes/turnovers to a minimum, put enough pts on the board to let the D win the game. Then hope Ben gets back asap, if he's out for whatever length of time. Seems the trio of Rudolph, Haskings & Dobbs can likely provide that. Not looking for superstar traits from any of them, just solid football fundamentals. The new QB coach seems like a solid addition too, so we should be all right with any combination of these guys. But I agree with whoever wrote it, I doubt we have our next franchise QB in any of these dudes. That's cool, just hope they're good enough to post a few W's when we need them this season.

Either way, if Haskins doesn't get a shot to start with the 1's, all of these people (especially on social media) who think Haskins is a lock to be the No. 2 this year, will be very disappointed as he will just be fighting to beat out Dobbs for a roster spot.

Haskins is a guy who has started 15 games over two years and playing with and against virtual third stringers he had a mediocre performance… he showed he could make reads and not force the ball, great first steps, but far from what you would expect from a top half of the first round pick in his third season…

I always thought that from the day we drafted him the anti Mason has been too vocal… he isn’t a superstar franchise qb, but you can win with him… even with the ****** five game stretch after his concussion two years ago his overall stats are still better than many first round qbs in their first couple years of starting… including Haskins….

haskins developing would be a great free asset, but the reality is he probably is the guy most likely to be cut if he does show that he can translate that arm into on field production… I don’t understand why everyone seems to think he is anywhere close to Rudolph on the teams depth chart yet… he isn’t even remotely in that conversation… he has a long way to go…
