The Rise (Or Fall) Of Edmunds

The 32 starts is what makes the 1 Int and 7 PDs an underachievement. Every year you see guys who prove themselves when given the opportunity. Tom Brady wasn’t that good sitting on the bench watching Drew Bledsoe? Willie Parker wasn’t that good sitting his entire college career on the bench at North Carolina?

I get all of that but who do you replace him with that's on the current roster ?

Was he a first round talent? It seems like no one the draft process except the Steelers thought so. He did not run a shuttle or cone drill for a reason at the combine or pro day. If he did he would be red flagged for coverage issues. He's not agile, his speed is straight line only. The guys a bit of a tweeter' between LB and SS. The Steelers through he could play Dime LB. Nope he wasn't suited or it.

I'd like him better if he made more plays not the ball and didn't miss so many tackles...to make up for being an easy target vs the pass, which he is. In coverage, one on one he's toast. I don't see the combine time speed, I see a guy too small to cover TE's and not quick or fast enough to stick with WR's. Next gen stats show a relatively low top speed for Edmunds. Guys with slower 40 times have better top end speeds. My guess is Edmunds starts quickly but doesn't have a fast 5th gear / top end speed. Nor does he corner well on turns.

I did have Edmunds in my mocks as a 3rd round guy. This is his make or break year. Go ahead and ask me if I think he is better than Sean Davis. Double dare ya.

Yes, he was a first round talent.

Some might have been surprised to see Terrell Edmunds go in first round but NFL teams were not. Spoke with several execs/coaches this week and all said he's a first-round talent. One likened him to a skinnier Keanu Neal. Another said he was a top-15 player in the draft.

Edmunds had the second highest pSparq number of any safety in the 2018 draft. So your notion that he's not a great athlete is absurd. He ran a 4.47 in the 40. His vertical was 41.5 inches which is 96th percentile, and his broad jump was 11.17 which is 97th percentile.

You want to say you didn't like his film and didn't like the pick then fine. But stop with the lie that he was a 3rd round talent.

I didn't love the pick either. I wanted more of a coverage S. The steelers clearly wanted that hybrid guy to play in the box like Polamalu. Polamalu was the rare guy who could do anything. A pick you hated by the way.

The steelers also drafted Marcus Allen, another hybrid type. They signed Mark Barron. It is obvious the steelers really wanted a box safety and Edmunds was the best box safety prospect in that draft due to his size and explosive athletic ability.

He was also going to be a project. It did not help that the other safety position was in flux until they traded for Minkah. Edmunds has not been bad. He just hasn't been great either. Just like Dupree's first few years. Now with Minkah next to him, Edmunds can focus on 1 role and he should improve.

Edmunds will never be Polamalu, but he sure can be Ryan Clark, and if he turns out to be Ryan Clark, I'll take it.

A few things. Does the pSpArq measure agility, and change of direction? As I pointed out, Edmunds is lacking here and did not run the shuttle or cone drills. Why? Probably because he would preform badly. I also pointed out Edmunds top next gen stats for speed was slower than guys who ran slower 40 times. What does that tell you? He's not that fast. I see guys separating from him. His instincts, which are hard for coaches to mold, are way off. He doesn't turn his head around in coverage and seems lost vs. the deep ball. Teams targeted him all the time. He's not good on over certain routes where the receiver cuts either.

Who among draft pundits viewed Edmunds as a first-round talent? No one I can recall. He was a surprise first-round pick. Tim Tebow was also a surprise first-round pick. It doesn't mean he was a first-round talent.

As for Allen, I hated that pick. He cant play coverage. Too slow. He's a special teams guy only. Edmunds the next Ryan Clark? I think your dreaming. More like a faster version of Lee Flowers. Lee jumped really well too and hit like a ton of bricks. Could not cover to save his rear end. The Steelers simply SUCK at drifting DB's. They do much better obtaining them in free agency or trading for them. 3/4 of our starring DB's were not drafted, and out slot guy wasn't drafted either.

Oh I've like Corners like Peters, Howard, and Fuller. And said they are worth our pick in round one. Each man made the pro bowl. The Steelers did not trade up for or passed on them. What the Steelers look for in their DB's reminds a mystery to me. Give me someone who can play man, with ball skills and a certain amount of speed. I don't care if he doesn't tackle like a stud, or hit like Donnie shell. Don't pick SLOW safeties. Don't pick midget's.

As for Edmunds, he's one of the worst starting safeties in the NFL. A poor first-round pick, his ideal role is 3rd safety.

Now for the shocker, I think Davis is slightly better in coverage ( at least he can make some plays ) and on the blitz but want neither in the starting defense.

The Steelers, if they had cap space could have picked a middle of the pack free agent safety and upgraded. No way would I give Edmunds a big 2nd contract.

Maybe one of these guys brought in for cheap could help

CURRENT ROSTER. Evidently the STEELERS see it differently. He's better than some give him credit for and has improved each year. He should take a step up this season as well. STATS don't always tell the story.

I hear yaz slash

My second grade teacher commented I had trouble with reading comprehension. I still do at times but have worked hard to understand what is written in front of me. CURRENT ROSTER is a pretty tough one as you can tell.

Edmunds didn't run the shuttle or 3 cone so you simply assume he's slow at them. Brilliant. Just say you didn't like his film and stop making **** up.

Did he even watch his film? I wouldn't even bank on that. He read that he was projected lower and then he stamped him inadequate before even playing a down for the Steelers. I wouldn't lock in on anything he says past that. His whipping boy is gone so he had to find a new S to pick on. Cooch is the laziest draftnik in the history of sports. Just horrible at assessing talent, I am willing to bet his luxury Datsun B210 could do a better talent eval.
