By: Jordan DeFigio, @fidgenewton SteelerNation.com Bounce-backs, comebacks, revenge tours – this off-season has been ripe with buzz for what the year will look like for the Pittsburgh Steelers.*With*Ben Roethlisberger returning from injury and several key players coming off of surprisingly disappointing seasons, there are a lot of guys with a lot to prove. So, where […]

I'm OK with Edmunds. I think the biggest issue most have with him is that they thought he was overdrafted and I wouldn't dispute that. Plus, with all the other outstanding players on our defense, given the exposure he gets at his position he is thought of as the weak link on our defense. IMO he is at least an average NFL strong safety and If that means he's the weakest link than we got a pretty damn good defense.

I would say he holds his own. He isn't getting torched. Playing up to first round. No. Not really. Playing bad. Disagree. Safety is a tough position too. But he does need to jump some routes and make some more plays.

I think NOT every player can be an ALL PRO like some here want. I think he may be slightly above average and this year will turn the lights just a little brighter. Note that he has played all 32 games which is a plus compared to some who can't stay on the field.

This is a bang on post. He is a high second round pick at 1.28. He has been durable and in my mind he is a good tackler. Would I like to see some play making. Sure. But if you remember Troy was able to do what he did because Ryan Clark was always where he should be. You cannot have two safeties free lancing and playing the ball.

Man this dude is really under appreciated...He has taken a step forward each year, & I believe that trend will continue...

He is long & is a disruptive force out there. He is a great fit on this team as he works well in a "team" defense. I think his atheleticism, speed, & length make him an ideal Centerfielder. Especially on this "D"

Edmunds is a still developing player I don't think we are seeing a top out yet. I think he is improving so it is a wait and see.

He comes from a football hungry family. So I think we will continue to see the effort.

Perhaps moving him in a little closer would benefit his game. Just not sure who would play his spot if he played Barron's hybrid role.

He's the Bud Dupree of the secondary. A first rounder with lots of talent who has underperformed. Like Bud he could finally have a breakout year because he is now surrounded by lots of talent so his job is much easier.

Regardless of the reason, the better he plays the better the team is. I'll take better anyway of the week regardless of why.

.tape, you have a valid point but regardless Edmunds is moving up. (I hope)

It's insane just to put his career in perspective. He's starting his 3rd season. He's only been playing for 2. I'm hoping he jumps off the page this season.

If he could just get his head around on pass plays, I think he could be a good SS.
He fills well and is a pretty sound tackler.
Additionally, he can cover down the field. He just doesn't react to the ball worth a crap.

With four good coverage players around him, Edmunds is the easy target. The man flat out lacks awareness / good reactions and can't cover. A I said, he was a round 3 guy the Steelers REACHED for. Anyone disagree with that statement 3 years a later? Edmunds makes next to no plays on the ball, and he leads the team in missed tackles. The trouble is, depth at safety is thin. The guy the Steelers picked in round 6 is a special teams guy, not a replacement or deployable 3rd safety in coverage..

So he is going to have great season and the Steelers 6th round pick will also be good. Got it.

Classic example of the pot calling the kettle black.

YOU should try "construction" not destruction................ But then again you are shaping up to be a blast expert. 1st post in a month and here you are.

Do you think it will snow tomorrow?

Someone lifted the trolls ban? damn mods.:second:

1 Int and 7 PDs in two years. Hasn’t made enough plays to warrant a starting position let alone first round pick. Weakest link on a strong defense. Small LB playing DB.

I disagree with that statement. Edmunds was a 1st round talent on athletic ability. That’s why he was invited to the draft and waiting in the green room. The NFL polls teams to get a list of guys to invite, so anybody invited to the draft was a 1st round grade on multiple team’s boards.

Whether Edmunds has played at a 1st round level is a different question, but in terms of draft value, he was drafted approximately where the consensus had him. I mean the real consensus of real NFL GMs not internet draftniks.

Would Tom Brady have been a good 1st round pick? No. He would have been a horrible pick because he was graded as a late round guy so that was his value. That’s where he was available. The fact he has proven himself since then does not retroactively change his grade at the time of the draft.

Who on our roster do you replace him with?? Also Remeber he has played all 32 games, no injuries and that is saying something as you can't be good if you're on the bench.

The 32 starts is what makes the 1 Int and 7 PDs an underachievement. Every year you see guys who prove themselves when given the opportunity. Tom Brady wasn’t that good sitting on the bench watching Drew Bledsoe? Willie Parker wasn’t that good sitting his entire college career on the bench at North Carolina?

Was he a first round talent? It seems like no one the draft process except the Steelers thought so. He did not run a shuttle or cone drill for a reason at the combine or pro day. If he did he would be red flagged for coverage issues. He's not agile, his speed is straight line only. The guys a bit of a tweeter' between LB and SS. The Steelers through he could play Dime LB. Nope he wasn't suited or it.

I'd like him better if he made more plays not the ball and didn't miss so many tackles...to make up for being an easy target vs the pass, which he is. In coverage, one on one he's toast. I don't see the combine time speed, I see a guy too small to cover TE's and not quick or fast enough to stick with WR's. Next gen stats show a relatively low top speed for Edmunds. Guys with slower 40 times have better top end speeds. My guess is Edmunds starts quickly but doesn't have a fast 5th gear / top end speed. Nor does he corner well on turns.

I did have Edmunds in my mocks as a 3rd round guy. This is his make or break year. Go ahead and ask me if I think he is better than Sean Davis. Double dare ya.
