Aircraft Carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt Enters Persian Gulf

The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (CSG-9) is now in the Persian Gulf, where it is expected to join the ongoing Operation Inherent Resolve fight against ISIS forces.

Recent statements made by the military’s top leadership suggest the Roosevelt CSG’s presence in the region will continue the anti-ISIS missions over Syria and Iraq. The U.S. hasn’t had an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf since USS Nimitz (CVN-68) departed in late October.

The carrier strike group includes Carrier Air Wing 17 and nine squadrons and detachments: the “Stingers” of Strike Fighter Squadron 113, the “Mighty Shrikes” of VFA-94 and the “Redcocks” of VFA-22, all based at Lemoore Naval Air Station, Calif.; the “Checkerboards” of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 312 from Beaufort Marine Corps Air Station, S.C.; the “Cougars” of Electronic Attack Squadron 139 from Whidbey Island, Wash.; the “Sun Kings” of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 116 from Point Mugu Naval Air Station, Calif.; and the “Providers” of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 30, the “Indians” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 6, and the “Battlecats” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 73, all based at North Island, according to a statement released by the Navy.

Bigger paychecks and cheap gas drive best holiday shopping season in six years

New York (CNN Business)Holiday sales grew at their fastest pace in six years, buoyed by rising wages and a drop in gas prices.

Retail spending from November 1 through December 24 increased 5.1% from a year ago, according to Mastercard SpendingPulse. Shoppers spent more than $850 billion during the holidays.

Unfazed by volatility on Wall Street, consumers flooded into stores and bought clothes and home decor online. Gas prices have dropped by more than 20 cents a gallon over the past month, giving shoppers extra cash for the holidays.

"Consumer confidence translated into holiday cheer for retail," said Steve Sadove, senior advisor for Mastercard and former CEO of Saks Fifth Avenue.

The strong holiday shopping season is another sign many Americans are disconnected from the day-to-day stock market action.

"What happens in the stock market doesn't necessarily lead to difficulties in the retail industry since stock ownership is not widely spread in the US," said Michelle Grant, head of retailing at Euromonitor International.

Growth online continued at a breakneck pace this holiday. Online sales rose more than 19% compared to last year, according to Mastercard.

Who watches any news these days? Who watches late night TV either or TV in general? Other than for Steeler games, that's about the only time I tune into network TV. :)

Most of the TV watching in our house is via Netflix or Amazon Video, some SlingTV

President and First Lady make second stop to visit U.S. troops in Germany

President Trump and Melania made their second unannounced visit to US troops abroad around 8pm ET as they visited troops on the German base of Ramstein.

The First Couple were on their way back from meeting troops in Iraq when Air Force One stopped to refuel and meet service members 'carrying MAGA hats' who had waited up until around 4am local time.

Let the Russians, or the Chinese, mire themselves in that **** hole. Let our drones take out any terrorist training camps. Stop immigration from Muslim nations, until Islam is reformed, or abandoned.

China held, and holds, all influence upon North Korea and has long-treated the DPRK as a proxy province to do the bidding of Beijing’s communist old guard. By directly confronting the influence agent, and admitting openly for the world to see (albeit with jaw-dropping tactical sanction diplomacy) President Trump positioned the U.S. to support a peace objective on the entire Korean peninsula and simultaneously forced China to openly display their closely-guarded influence.

Correctly identify the controlling authority and place the responsibility on them for the needed reforms using economic sanctions and harnessing the will of the oppressed peoples effected. The second video of Kim Jong Un suggests they are serious about realignment with South Korea.

Bolsonaro also wants to strengthen the ties to Trump and has announced that he will follow the US example and move Brazil’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
