Jobless claims fell last week even further to a new post-1969 record of 203,000.
This is the lowest level for initial claims for state unemployment benefits since December 6, 1969 when it was 202,000.

The 4-week moving average, considered a better gauge of the labor market because it smooths out week-to-week volatility, fell to 209,500 from 212,250. This is the lowest level for this average since December 6, 1969 when it was 204,500.

Jobless claims have been closely watched in recent weeks for signs that trade disputes might weigh on the jobs market. To the surprise of many economists and critics of the Trump administration, jobless claims show no signs of stress from tariffs that U.S. has put in place or retaliation from foreign countries.

With Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats failing to land even one substantive body blow against Kavanaugh during multiple marathon sessions -- each of which was interrupted by deranged caterwauling from left-wing activists -- the writing is on the wall.

Barring a seismic event, confirmation is all but assured. Let's start with two key red state Democrats whose constituents strongly favor confirmation:

President Trump to Name Climate Skeptic as Tech Adviser; Greenie Heads Explode

President Trump is ready to announce Princeton physicist and leading climate skeptic Will Happer as his senior tech adviser.

According to CNN:

William Happer, a Princeton atomic physicist and prominent skeptic questioning whether humans are causing rapid climate change, is joining the National Security Council as senior director for emerging technologies, according to NSC officials.

Happer, 79, is an emeritus professor of physics at Princeton who served in the Department of Energy under President George H.W. Bush in the early 1990s. He did not respond to CNN’s requests for comment.

This will be both a tremendously sensible appointment and a superb piece of trolling by the president.

The House on Friday passed a bill that would restore the federal government's ability to deport immigrants for a wide variety of violent criminal offenses in a vote that won quick praise from President Trump.

The Community Safety and Security Act aims to address an April Supreme Court ruling that found that the federal definition of a “crime of violence,” which under immigration law prompts the mandatory deportation of a noncitizen, is impermissibly vague. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Karen Handel (R-Ga.), specifically enumerates more than a dozen crimes that would qualify

Democrats objected to the bill for being rushed to the floor without hearings or an amendment process in committee, though 29 broke ranks and supported it; four libertarian-oriented Republicans opposed it.

U.S. oil exports reached new soaring heights in the first six months of 2018, with half of all exports going to Europe and Asia and India shoring up the rest, according to new data from the federal government.

U.S. crude oil exports saw an 80 percent increase in the first half of 2018 compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data and analysis issued Thursday by the Energy Information Administration.

That's an increase of 787,000 barrels per day, to set a new monthly record in June of 2.2 million barrels on average per day.

The largest recipients of U.S. oil were in Asia, with U.S. crude oil exports to China more than doubling in the first six months of the year. U.S. crude oil to China grew by 193,000 barrels per day compared to the first half of 2017.

But U.S. oil exports to other countries in the region also rose significantly. Exports to South Korea and India jumped 81,000 barrels per days and 72,000 barrels per day, respectively, from the previous year.

Zinke opens more wildlife refuges to hunting

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke on Friday allowed for new or expanded hunting or fishing at 30 wildlife refuges.

The move opens 251,000 new acres to hunting or fishing across the Fish and Wildlife Service’s (FWS) refuge system, FWS said. By the 2018-2019 hunting season, 377 refuges will allow hunting and 312 will allow fishing.

The action is part of a wide-ranging effort by Zinke and the Trump administration to promote hunting and fishing

The administration argues that hunting and fishing is not only compatible with conservation but enhances it as well.

“American sportsmen and women contribute over a billion dollars a year to fund conservation," Zinke, a hunter himself, said in a Friday statement. "Without hunters and anglers, we wouldn't be able to conserve wildlife and habitat; and, without access to our public lands like national wildlife refuges, many hunters would have nowhere to go."
