Interior Dept. aims to speed oil and gas permitting on public lands with 30-day reviews

The Interior Department, intent on boosting oil and gas production on federal lands, issued an order on Thursday designed to speed up the permitting process for drilling.

Coming on the heels of the Trump administration’s self-styled Energy Week in late June, Secretary Ryan Zinke’s order is its latest effort to loosen restrictions on the fossil fuel industry. The White House is pushing for more domestic oil, natural gas and coal production so that the United States can become a net energy exporter as part of President Trump’s “energy dominance” agenda.

The Interior Department said the average approval time for a drilling permit during the last fiscal year under the Obama administration was 257 days. The result of that approval pace, according to the agency, was that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) had 2,802 drilling permit applications pending when Trump took office in late January.

Zinke said the aim of his order is to untangle the bureaucratic knot so the BLM can review permit applications within 30 days, as mandated by statute. He also ordered oil and gas lease sales be held in each state every quarter.

ICE officers are being told to be on the lookout for all undocumented immigrants they see

The head of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement unit in charge of deportations has directed his officers to take action against all undocumented immigrants they may cross paths with, regardless of criminal histories. The guidance appears to go beyond the Trump administration’s publicly stated aims, and some advocates say may explain a marked increase in immigration arrests.

The Trump administration, including Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, has been clear in promising to ramp up immigration enforcement, but has so far emphasized that its priority was deporting immigrants who posed a public safety threat. Indeed, Kelly, to whom Albence ultimately reports, had seemed to suggest a degree of discretion when he told the agencies under his command earlier this year that immigration officers “may” initiate enforcement actions against any undocumented person they encountered. That guidance was issued just a day before Albence sent the memo to his staff

Justice department calls out 'sanctuary cities' over compliance with law

The US justice department has questioned whether so-called sanctuary cities including New York, Chicago, New Orleans and Philadelphia responded honestly when asked if they follow the law on sharing the citizenship status of people in custody with federal immigration authorities.

In a strongly worded statement, the department said some of the 10 jurisdictions under scrutiny insist they are compliant with the law, while refusing to cooperate with efforts to detain and deport immigrants living in the country illegally.

The justice department said it was reviewing policies to determine whether such jurisdictions should lose some federal grant money for failing to prove they are adhering to federal immigration law.

Philadelphia said in its letter to the department that the city was adhering to the law even while refusing to collect information on residents’ immigration statuses.

surgeons had some quirks, right, an errant word, something yelled out in the OR. You know you’d want doing your surgery? Those very guys! They weren’t the polished ones, they were the geniuses man! And, we’ve got a genius in the Oval Office, and if we think he’s going to subscribe entirely to protocol and be flawless and polished, think again!

Trump officials signal intent to begin refilling Guantanamo

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein visited the prison on Friday to get an update on current operations, the first concrete action the administration has taken on the facility since taking office.

Up until now, Guantanamo has been running on autopilot; the executive order from former President Obama calling for the facility to be shut down is still technically the law of the land.

But President Trump promised during the campaign to “load it up with some bad dudes,” and Sessions has called it a “very fine place” with no legal reason not to send new detainees there.

“Keeping this country safe from terrorists is the highest priority of the Trump administration,” Prior said. “Recent attacks in Europe and elsewhere confirm that the threat to our nation is immediate and real, and it remains essential that we use every lawful tool available to prevent as many attacks as possible.”

Because it aint about her being an intelligent, capable woman, it is about liberalism, first and foremost.
