Yes. I was taught that, and now I am stuck in a career where I make entry level money with 24 years of experience, two licenses and a masters degree. Many of my graduates are making more - even much more - than I am or ever will.

For me, there are two guys. One graduated from Sac State, and owns a business as a tech sub contractor to the government of CA. The other is a custom home builder, who dropped out of school in middle school.

I have more education than both of them.

Similar. I got a B.A. in economics as a yute, later went to night school for an MBA so I could teach, which I did part-time for 19 years.
Had a relatively ****ty job in a hospital for ten years but they paid for my MBA and I got vested so I get a whopping $112 a month pension.
In 1995 I opened a franchise of a national service-type company, my dad's idea, which I did for 21 years. After 10 years I opened a second franchise in a neighboring county. The 2008 recession and 8 years of Obamunism crushed my business and I unloaded it at a loss in 2016. It appears that the folks I sold it to are out of business but I'm sure Covid didn't help.
Went back to school part-time in 2013 to be a funeral director. In PA that is a 2-year associates degree, so I basically went two steps backwards and got a lesser degree so I could earn more money. Life is funny.

I remember you sharing the journey here on SN at the time. I even spoke to Mrs. Fan about me maybe doing it. Congrats on your move. I wish I had done something when I had time.

I wasn't making enough at my business anymore, insurance was hideously expensive, so I said I need to be in a line of work where you need to be licensed or certified and something not everybody can do.
Downside, I am on-call 24/7 unless I'm officially on vacation because I am the only funeral director at our Pittsburgh location. It's somewhat mentally draining because the phone can ring any time (like last night when me and Mrs. B were grocery shopping) with the answering service telling me someone has passed away or that a caller wants a price. I'm going to retire sometime in the next 2 to 5 years. I like my job but I wouldn't want to it for 50 years.

30 year ago I worked for a Company that started here called "Baby Superstore." The owner of the company sold his business for a windfall to Toys R Us and it became Babies R Us. His daughter married the son of the owner of the largest mortuary in town. Life is funny. I immediately thought it humorous one family made their wealth and mark with babies, and the other one funerals.

I hear ya...I am the maintenance director at a 120 bed nursing home and they won't hire me an assistant. I'm basically on call 24-7. Everytime the phone rings my stomach drops. The company also doesn't pay out unused PTO so last year I lost like 140 hours because it is so hard to take time off

Blame reimbursement not your company. If you’re still at the same place you said bf I won’t say but it doesn’t matter.

MDs just like the clinical folks in our field are needed everywhere that’s why turnover and retention are in the toilet…”I’ll bounced to the next”.

If you have skill set, you have power and could move on to another, maybe one of mine 🤗, and get paid more with similar issues.

Regarding your pto. If they are not paying out, which I don’t know any that do, take it. You ******* take it as that is your salary.

Now clearly you need to navigate you and yours but ….just saying. Maybe if you paid Jimmy.
