The Official Please Don't Draft Shedeur Sanders Thread

I can see the talking heads missing the on-field evaluation by a round or two. There is no way that this fall had anything to do with holding the ball too long. Just takes one coach to think they can coach that out of him. If it wasn't his interview performances, the other thing I can think of is he scored a 0 on the Wonderlic or that other test and teams don't think they can coach anything out of him.
I'd say his talent dropped him from round 1, his **** football-messiah attitude dropped him another, then his dad brought him down the rest of the way to round 5 where the stains owner proved the existence of alcohol.

Back in the day. I used to love me some Colorado players.

Those were the days.

😄

Colorado State gave us some good LBs with the Porter-Haggans tandem
Colorado gave us the Steelers arguably 3rd-4th best QB too.

Charles Johnson was from Colorado too if memory serves.

We must’ve had a good Colorado scout back in the day…still do since they told us pass on Sanders🤣

I watch DK Daily Shot a lot on YouTube. Naturally I see a clip on the Sheduer situation and some are saying the NFL colluded against him. Some even acted racism????

Teams have the right to evaluate what they want in a player. It isn’t the just X & O’s, it’s also the hype / scandal / locker room presence / attitude / influence to the public…… ect. Ect..

I think all the bagged exceeded the ability until it got to the 5th round, calling it a wash at that point.

I’m glad we passed and focused on our more drier needs. QB addressed in the 6th, just right.

I look at it like this
A certain percentage of teams had zero interest in a QB. They likely did little vetting on any qbs outside of real basic stuff... remember, scouting departments are limited resources, and all in all there are hundreds and hundreds of prospects, many that never get drafted but still must be researched, so positions of zero need will get glossed over some.

these teams were never gonna take a guy dropping without knowing why... so lets say that makes up 8-10 teams

Another portion of teams were obviously turned off by his interviews and attitude. These took him off their draft boards. This was the more problematic part for him because these were the most interested in a potential starting qb. New Orleans, The Giants, maybe Pittsburgh... there are about five different stories floating about that sounded pretty bad so either the owners or staff blackballed him

After that you had a larger portion of teams who were in the market for a non starting QB who seemed to feel his attitude and entourage wouldn't be conducive to the team if he wasnt starting...

A lot of scouts did seem to think he was gonna be a backup type in the NFL... and teams dont want a backup with all that baggage...

Of course there were also teams who felt his flaws were fatal and he wouldn't amount to anything...

Finally there were teams who didnt take him off their boards, but figured he was only worth a low round easily cuttable pick... like the Browns

I think the stains owner was drinking and got a call from Deion pleading for help.
This proves that Haslem was into the sauce, and not much else. The video from their warroom showed clearly that it wasn't a staff pick

You also have to consider that teams that lowered him on their board, and were interested in QB'S drafted someone else.

NYG - Dart
NO - Shough
Cleve - Gabriel
Sea - Milroe

That drops him into round 4. So there's a lot more to it. And it makes zero sense for Cleveland to take him at all, after drafting Gabriel in the 3rd. There are 4 other QB'S I would have taken before him, we grabbed one, Miami grabbed one, Philly grabbed one, the Colts the other.

Look at it from the Cleveland coaching staff... they are likely on the hot seat if they have a bad season... they already have the watson crap hanging over them. He will be on pup at least the first half of the season, if not longer... but he very well may come back

So they will now have to cut one of Pickett, Flacco, Gabriel or Sanders...

They also will have to name a starter...and pick a depth chart

Both of these actions will be scrutinized 100x more than they would have been had they not drafted the distraction

Lets say they cut him, the internet melts down and unless they have great success they get second guessed all season long

Same if they name one of the vets a starter over him... there will be a circus breaking down every incompletion demanding Sanders...

But lets say they irrationally name him the starter. Barring him having a lights out season that few rookies do, they get creamed for starting him over a win now vet... and they look stupid for drafting Gabriel over him...

I mean there are teams that probably were better fits with established qbs that he would have had to seriously outplay to unseat... the mush in Cleveland isnt the place to go

Lets not even bring up that the past decade or so, Cleveland wrested the mantle of most immature roster from Cinci and is culturally the worst fit for that guy

The racism excuse is the one that really gets my goat.
So only 17.5% of the players taken before him were white, but yeah it’s a racism thing🤦🏻‍♂️

Hate when people wrongfully throw that card…(especially former Congressmen)

The kid skipped 80% or more of the interview process and only had an average/above average past work experience resume…but he’s supposed to get hired in as CEO? Gtfoh

If that is the type of work ethic he’s gonna bring it is a huge red flag. Funny that teams aren’t looking for an entitled over inflated ego prospect as the face of their franchise. That sort of bad branding can cost a business a lot of money.

The NFL is so racist they’ve drafted 6 black QBs in the top 5 of the draft in the past three seasons.

EXCELLENT post madinsomniac and thanks for all the great ones along the way.!!!

Fully agree on what you say but also want to note how discussing the racial aspect is of this. There is a clip on YouTube that equates the situation to the making of a plantation. I won’t expand on the clip because it’s so disheartening to me.

The only thing Shedeur can do is prove everyone wrong. Not ***** or mouth off if he doesn’t start. Be a great team mate and let his play speak for itself. If he is as great as many say, his talent will prove it.

The problem with that particularly stupid argument was that of the 5 qbs that went before him, only two were white...

I mean dude... 32 teams passed on him for 4 straight rounds... its ockums razor... either 32 teams all have an illegitmate, nefarious agenda against you, so much so that they would rather handicap themselves over taking a better player, or the issue is on your end...

The simplist answer was that he failed to sell himself to these teams as a reasonable option

They cant cut shedure... Gabriel was picked first ,, Picket was number one,, traded for him. Or whatever.

That leaves Flacco on the outs.

Pickett will be named vet starter in ttun.

I don't think they will cut Flacco or they will have no experienced QB. They technically still have watson, but he is not expected to play in 2025. I think Pickett could be the odd man out. They obviously liked Gabriel and doubt they would give up on him yet. They did trade for Pickett but don't have much invested in him. Sanders could also be cut if he is not putting in the work and still has an entitled attitude.

I don't get the collusion accusations. Show me the GM who says that he knows he can make his team better by drafting a player but he won't because all the other GMs said not to, and I'll show you a guy who belongs on the unemployment line. It was a standard cost/benefit analysis, and I'm sure anyone who was interested, who met with him, realized that the benefits were not worth the potential damage he could do to a locker room.

Never forget that after the browns used a lower first round pick on the "falling" Johnny Manzel, rumors he was totally off most teams boards were rampant... he was cut two year later and not one other team ever gave him a second look...

The Ravens drafted a guy Mike Green who was accused of sexual assault in high school. He went to Virginia by signing a zero tolerance pledge. He was accused of an assault at Virginia, so he had to go to Marshall. Most teams probably had him off their draft board.

That guy was drafted in round 2. Yet we're supposed to believe the whole league colluded to not draft the great Shedur Sanders just to "teach him a lesson".

I believe it was NFL scouting legend Gil Brant who said if Hannibal Lechter ran a sub 4.5 40, the scouting reports would say he had an eating disorder.

Shedur fell because he's not talented enough to be a pain in the ***. End of story.

I don't think that is comparing apples to apples. Sanders is seen as toxic, lazy, entitled, and just thinks he is above everyone else which would be a team killer. If Sanders would have participated in the combine, interviews, pro day, etc etc I guarantee he would have been drafted several rounds higher. I don't know if I would call it collusion or not, but Sanders tanked mainly because of attitude. His physical traits may not have matched his attitude, but he was talented enough to be drafted much higher

I think the point here is that NFL teams have proven time and again that they will ignore major red flags if the talent and winning edge is there. If Ray Rice was 5 years younger in 2014, he would have done a weekend anger management course and been back on the field before training camp ended after that "minor disagreement". Instead, he was no longer a premier player so the NFL could act like they are taking a moral stand.
