By not offering fans who don't live in the city no option to watch games.

Unless you want to switch providers and sign up for expensive satellite packages you aren't allowed to view your favorite team on game day.

How they haven't gotten with the times and added a pay site that allows you to watch streamed games for a modest fee is beyond anything I can comprehend.

Completely unfathomable.

Bet they could collect more by cutting direct TV out of the deal.

If you were a business would you like to collect revenue directly from your customers or have another company skimming profit off the top?

Well either way they are going to have to partner with someone to deliver the content. That is definitely not their forte

I agree with the OP. I refuse to pay for Sunday Ticket, and I know others that do too. True, the NFL is raking in big bucks from DirecTV, but I think a pay-per-view could actually make them more money if structured intelligently, and save the avg viewer money as well. They could charge say...$10 per game or an annual subscription similar to S.T. With many teams will will get several nationally televised games, so the avg viewer wouldn't have to pay for all 16 games.

...But to counter my own argument...I think the NFL is trying to get away from team loyalty and create more "NFL fans". During my years in the military, it always surprised me how many "neutral" fans there were. Whether they followed because of fantasy or covering spreads, or just playing the antagonizer there were many out there, and I think the NFL would almost prefer that detached mentality because those are the people that tune into Thursday night, Sunday night, and Monday night games when "their" team isn't playing.

I've been screaming this for years. I'm not switching to direct and I'm not driving 30 miles to a bar.
I would pay it pay per view even if it was 50 bucks a game.

DirecTV charges $50 for individual games.

Accounting for the nationally televised games you wouldn't have to purchase, a Steelers' season would probably run $500-600.

There are ways to watch the game without ST and the stupid prices they charge for it ensure that those alternatives will always exist.

Not sure I am following how fantasy football ruined the game? I personally watch more games since I have been doing draftkings and fanduel. In the past when the Steelers werent on watching other games was like watching paint dry. With FF at least I have somewhat of an interest in the games.

If you research this subject on this website - keyword DirecTV - you'll find a good, and free, way to watch the Steelers each week.

Look for posts made toward the end of training camp...

I used to watch a lot of games. With the advent of FF, i played for a few years. Then the league seemed to become more and more geared to increasing FF scores, so i quit watching the other games.

Fantasy football has set conditions where many players are purely playing for stats to pad their fantasy positions. Subsequently, the league has changed rules to make it more advantageous for offensive players to garner larger fantasy points and reduce the impact of defensive minded football.
I’m all about watching other games and the basic premise of fantasy football leagues, but now that there are such large profits from FF; it’s hard to believe that the NFL isn’t changing its business model to profit from it.

It’s encourages these “out for themselves” type of players and breaks down the team model. At least, that is how I see it.

Gurley really pissed a few people off, but it was nice to see. He has an easy TD but went down to end the game. If he scored the Rams would have covered the spread.

Seems like some conservatives are taking an anti-capitalist stance here...

I'd guess the NFL has more than one bean counter making the calculations on how much they can expect to make from various sources.

It does seem they could make more outside of the DTV market. For some reason, they must think they can't.

The NFL are idiots on this one. Simple math tells you to open Sunday ticket to at least one other carrier. You will get money from both carriers up front and then, the cost can come down to the fans. The NFL won't lose anything by having the cost come down as there will now be a ton more subscribers. The revenue will actually increase for the NFL and make the fans happier.
