The NFL and NFLPA are working toward a deal that would strip Goodell of his authority

Goodell is allowing it. Ask yourself why.

Because he's tired of getting blamed. This way he can assert his influence from behind closed doors, and if it all blows up like the Rice case, he has plausible deniability.

Maybe they want to lower his his salary, for not doing as much work. Mayb from 1.2 bill$ to 1.1$

Sounds about right. It's all entertainment. Goodell will still call the shots but not be the puppet to take the blame. Sounds like a conspiracy theory. But wasnt there like a 11% drop off in NFL interest since 2013? I can see Goodell "backing off" to draw in the die hard fans again. But still be thrown the patsies part deux until Ben and co run this damn league

They will put some poor sap up front as a figurehead to take all the crap that Goodell is tired of taking.

I don't know. Ratings and revenues are up, so I don't know how "interest" would be measured.

Gambling is driving it. When daily fantasy gets banned (and that looks to happen in 24-36 months) I think revenues will drop off a bit.

If they collectively bargin this the players will likely have to give something up to get it... The owners win with this and love Rodger even more

That too.

The NFL doesn't do anything without ******* the players in some way.

Oh, you want more money? Ok. Franchise tag, and no guaranteed contracts like the rest of pro sports.

Oh, you want safety rules? Ok. We cut the balls off your defense, and use fines as a new revenue source.

Oh, you want a strong union? Ok. We appoint Mussolini as commissioner and give him unchecked control over the league.

What does this clown do then? The CBA comes up every few year, but aside from that what else does he do if he's not in charge of discipline anymore?

The owners usually take lead on negotiating TV deals. They negotiate their own stadium deals etc.

I guess now his main duties are getting boo'd at the draft, giving social justice warriors more ammo, and maybe picking out the font on NFL.com

Weird how the players them selves had to agree to all of this in their CBA.

It's called bargaining and as for the fines, they aren't a revenue source.

Makes sense. Especially the whole gambling aspect
