The joy of being drafted a Steeler

Or even just an UFA like BJ Finney

A guy that was working at that restaurant posted a thread about it on reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/steelers/comments/34kwnv/sanquez_is_having_his_draft_party_at_my_restaurant/

On mobile and still at work, but the guy seems like a 100% class act from what little ive spoken to him. Incredibly well and soft spoken and very polite.

Can post a potato quality picture later if anyone cares when I get off, but in all he seems like a quality pickup for yall.

Yeah. He got the call a few picks before it was announced and broke into tears, hugged his parents, wife/gf, and hasnt let go of his baby since. Entire restaurant flipped out when they announced it, good solid 5 minutes of thunderous applause.

If I can, when he slows down im gonna try to get a picture with him thats better than the candid shot I took.

As an Eagles fan, im happy for you guys. Seems like a good guy and theyve been playing his college highlights on our projector and the dude seems like a huge playmaker.

That part right there dispels the myth that the Steelers wanted Maxx Williams and the Rats outmaneuvered them. It appears that the Rats were tricked into giving up draft picks to move ahead of the Steelers to select a player that the Steelers didn't even want.

It's nice to have threads like this where were not immediately ******** on these guys and condemning the pick because of some personal bias and vendetta against the organization. In the moment it's just a hard working college kid being drafted by the greatest team in professional football. It's awesome.

That was my initial thought, too, and Colbert was also quoted as saying Senquez was the guy they were trying to trade up for, not Maxx. Also, before Day 2 some beat writer (forget which) said that he was told that there was only 1 CB the Steelers were looking at in Round 2. That being said, in that thread it was mentioned that the picks were locked in ahead of the announcements, so can't be too sure. I believe they didn't want Maxx, personally.

Edit: There's a link embedded in the line about Colbert, but you might not be able to tell (post draft press conference video).

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but from those videos I think the joy of being drafted/signed by any team would have that same reaction. I don't think it being the Steelers per se had anything to do with it.

It would seem that the steelers valued him much higher than we did.

The kid is fast.

He has lots of interceptions.

Last guy we had on the team with lots of interceptions was DL. He got them while with the lions and had more than 60 if I remember correctly.

Ummmmm. OK. Thanks for the info.

wtf does Dick's 9th all time interceptions total have to do with his tenure with the Steelers as a coach? lmao

Could've mentioned Rod? Or hell, even Chad Scott.

Nobody was close to DLs interceptions as a player, this kid had 16 in a year that is a rare talent. Should he get less than 1/2 of those he will still be a find.

The LeBeau comment still makes no sense. But yeah, I love that we're finally looking for some ballhawks rather than simply big corners that want to tackle in the Cover 3.

That couldn't be further from the truth!! Huge Steeler fan-family!!!!
