The good: This will be short. The game ended without injury... Deangelo was great. He is a perfect fit for the Steelers style. I disagree with the broadcasters that Bell wasn't missed. Deangelo missed some holes and wasn't a factor in the passing game. Bell is just better and would have had more yards running and receiving than Deangelo. Not a knock on him just that Bell is in a different league. Brown was another high light. He is unstoppable. If Ben can get the ball around him he will catch it. On defense Dupree did a nice job for a raw rookie. I liked drafting him because he is bigger and actually can get to the QB unlike another 1st round LB.

The bad- I don't have time to list all of it but here it goes: I know Tomlin is pissed with the head sets and he has every right to be. But he was seriously outcoached. His time management was horrible and his inability to understand what is happening on the field, how much time is left, and what needs to be done now is severely lacking. There are times when Ben should just run the offense no huddle and wear the defense out. They were tired last night but the Steelers were so disorganized that they couldn't take advantage of it. Almost every aspect of this team was disorganized. The defense looked like a 3 stooges movie. Couldn't get lined up and couldn't tackle for ****. I've seen better tackling in high school.

Also why is Archer still on this team? What exactly does he do? He sucks at KR and he can't get on the field when Bell and Bryant both are gone? WTF is the reason he is still here?

The players were horrible on defense as well. Timmons was just bad. Out of position and then missing tackles when he was in position. Where the hell was Heyward? I thought he was the next great DL? McClendon looked like he was on roller skates all night. Going against a rookie center and gets stoned. Jones as usual was on his back almost all night. He had a couple of good plays but that isn't enough at the ROLB position in a 3-4. Tuitt played but did nothing. Shazier had a few nice plays but he whiffed on a few tackles as well. The secondary is just horrible. I can't imagine how these players are this bad. WTF have they been doing all pre-season? How bad is Thomas that he can't even get on the field with these jokers? They can't tackle anything. But that's ok because they can't cover anyone either. Everybody was so ready to get rid of DL because of 10 yard cushions... well welcome to the world of Butler's 15 yard cushions. Most of the time I couldn't even tell who was suppose to be the coverage man. They weren't even in the TV frame. And Butler even dumbed down the playbook. How stupid are these players?

The ugly- The pat**** cheating again. I'm tired of these clowns. The NFL should raid the offices of the pats***. This is systemic and on going. Tomlin has every right to be mad. I've listedn to all the excuses but none of them hold water. First off it wasn't raining the entire first half. Second, just because the pats**** say they are having trouble doesn't mean they are. If these are all the same systems then why doesn't Buffalo, Seattle, Pittsburgh and other towns with bad weather have these issues? It's embarrassing to watch the NFL defend these cheating pricks.

Glad you enjoyed the game.

I thought Jarvis did rather well. He totally blew Nate Solder up on a couple plays. I like what I saw from him.....he was hurt last year, this is pretty much his 2nd year.

I'm no fan of Jones, but Solder is a damn fine LT and I'm telling ya Jarvis totally abused him on some plays. Hopefully he'll grow from this and turn into a solid player.

The pash rush as whole wasn't bad, you have to understand Brady is the best at getting rid of the ball quickly.

Steelers need to fix that secondary, they will get Boykin involved and as the year progresses they will get better. That defense is fast as hell...once they all settle down and play a couple games there's no where to go but up.

Giving up only 28 points on Pats celebration night and with Brady trying to make a statement...this wasn't bad at all.

This team has huge potential.

This team has huge potential.

Yep, Next week they have the potential to go 0 - 2.

You are correct sir.

And let me be clear here. I'm not being uber-negative guy here. I'm pointing out that they lost. You can talk about potential all you ******* want. Tomlin, once again has the team utterly unprepared for the season opener. I'm shocked the P*ts cheated! Who ******* saw that coming?

Tomlin needed to have the team ready to play their A ******* game in every phase and they played what, a C-? maybe?

Don't talk about potential. Talk about the reality of what happened. The P*ts cheated AGAIN, the league turned it's head AGAIN, Tomlin was unprepared AGAIN, the defense looks like dogshit AGAIN, our center is on IR AGAIN, we have major offensive role-players suspended AGAIN...

We have potential to be 0 - 2 next week. That's the very real situation. Sorry for bringing ya down man. I love the Steelers, hate the WWF, er WWE, I mean NFL.

I saw two plays where Jones did well against Solder. The rest of the time he was on the ground or just a non-factor. Almost every team has their best OL at LT. He can't have the excuse every week that the other team has a "damn good LT". Yea, most teams do. Which is why he did well in pre-season in that one game where he went against a backup RT instead of a real LT. Next week he goes against Staley. Should we expect nothing again from him?

I agree once that defense has time to gel they could really be dangerous. The cheats quick passing game really kept the pass rush at bay. I did see JJ blow up Solder more than once. I hope the light comes in for him. The Steelers biggest issue on defense right now is the secondary and poor tackling from most defenders.

Steelers will easily handle the 49ers. Just watch. This team will be damn good.

There's maybe one dominant team (seahags) n the NFL. We just went against Brady on their huge night and almost took one from them.

Barring any major injury this team has a great chance to be something special.

Pats have invested heavily on their Dline and to be honest Ben had a good pocket and time most of the game. OL made huge holes.....defense will improve.

Unlike past defenses this one CAN improve. The pieces are there.

Call me a homer but this isn't a bad team. There are no world beaters out there and were better than most.

I don't see it. The Steelers scored a TD with 2 seconds left. It wasn't that close IMHO. The pats**** were in a prevent defense. It was a 14 point game with 3 seconds left. The great offense scored 14 points when it counted and the defense gave up 28 along with 4 TDs from Brady and 0 TOs. I think Brady missed 5 passes all night.

The weird thing is that the pats*** defense isn't that good. How do you not score more than that?

I agree with you. With the way people are complaining about the defense, you'd think we'd given up 50+. I think it was Dungy before the game said it'll take 30 points to beat the Pats and he was right on. The Pats D is not much better than ours yet we put up 21 with 7 of that being in garbage time. It's the same story year after year after year. The offense looks completely unstoppable for a drive or two and then they always do something bonehead ("trick play", penalty, turnover, missed FG) to completely mess it up. There's also a reason Gronk is the best TE in the game, most of the other teams don't have anyone that can cover him either so I highly doubt that is the worst of our problems.

With a 120+ yard rusher AND receiver, you'd think we could put up more than 14 points in 3 and a half quarters. To only have 3 points at halftime when we had multiple good drives is not going to cut it no matter who the opponent is or how the defense is playing.

Yup I'm with ya. They gave Blake a chance ahead of Boykin because he's "our" guy, we drafted him...they just didn't want to give Boykin the key right away. I totally understand. Steelers are loyal to their players (maybe too loyal but that's why a lot of players love playing for us)

Once Boykin gets involved, and the young LBers get a feel for the game you will see how good they can be.

One thing is for sure...this defense isn't old and slow...they're young and freakin fast as hell....give it time....once it clicks for everbody this team will be a force.

I agree.....BUT:

Bell and Bryant totally changed this offense...especially in the Redzone. Both guys have a knack for finding the End zone.

Once those ayers come I expect our PPG go up big time. And it will.

Dumb stuff....Steelers left 14 points on the field. DHB has to catch that...Bryant will.

Bell won't be denied too many times from the 1.

These things are fixable when we get our players back.

This team is young, fast, and contrary to popular belief there's talent and a huge potential.

Dude with Clark, Troy, Ike in the secondary we gave up 55 points to the pats a couple years ago. Screwing up THAT bad and giving up only 28 points is a positive.

It's a positive because they will improve. This is the first game of the season. Gronk going 53 yards because Dupree "thought" he had safety help won't be happening throughout the seaso. These mistakes are fixable.

Yes bell and Bryant won't miss those. But the pats**** won't be playing a prevent defense with 7 minutes left if the game is closer. There are cause and effect events in football. You can't just say If X happens then Y will be the same. It won't be. The offense will be fine. But the defense is not good. They are fast. But that means **** in the NFL where everybody is fast. They aren't all young. Allen, Gay, Mitchell, Harrison, Timmons, Moats, Cam Thomas, and McClendon are not young. Hell even Jones isn't young. He'll be 26 in less than a month. The average age in the NFL is around 26. The pats*** are probably a younger defense. But age isn't the issue. Can they play? Speed and age mean nothing. The issue is can they play. Right now they can't tackle, get in formation or cover anyone. That's a lot to overcome.

And not even close to being BAD we kept Dri Archer WHY? We have a star receiver returning punts and again we kept Archer WHY?

I like Bryant, I was glad we drafted him and I was one of the guys who was momentarily pissed that we didn't snag him in the 3rd.

but I fear that he is much more likely to serve a 5 game suspension than he is to play 5 more games for the Steelers.

He is on the Josh Gordon career trajectory.

Does anybody know if when they changed the NFL drug program protocol if they allow the player to stay with the team during suspension?? Previously there was no contact allowed........

Bryant can do everything with the team except participate in practice or watch practice. He can lift weights, attend meetings, watch film etc.

Common statement made by me last night, "What the **** are they doing, there not lined up yet (def), there not even covering the players up." "Do they not know there ******* position?"

The Def was terrible last night. I think we win this game if they were just in position, and in there position immediately not ***** footing around. How many ******* times did we have 10 guys on the field.

It was only once we had only ten. One too many but only omce.

Um, have you seen how Tomlin coached teams play against bad teams?

I too, thought we should've drafted Bryant in the 3rd.

As for the pot protocol, the new rules were effective at begining of this year (not sure if it was calendar or league year) i believe the changes were made at last years fall meeting.

Does anyone think the 49ers defense is much worse than the pats***? Plus they have Bolden, Ellington, and Torrey Smith as WRs. They also have Davis still at TE, Carlos Hyde and Bush out of the backfield. Plus Kapper is still a good runner. This won't be a cake walk IMHO.
