I'm about done with this situation. IMO, Bell is not close to being worth what he thinks. An average RB can get enough touches to get yards and Bell leads the league in touches since he's arrived...he MUST be reminded that he is 25th in the league in yards per carry for a RB and in the 100's in yards per catch. Just because we used him more than the "committee approach" doesn't mean anything other than he will have more exposure to injury...which is stupid for us, and him.
Todd Gurley has him in Yards from scrimmage on 63 less touches for Christ's sake. If it were me making the decisions, I would handle it like they did with Stonio and let him walk letting the TEAM know that I view it as a TEAM sport where we will get further with a good TEAM than with 3 stars and a bunch of average players.
But, for the good of the team, I would approach his agent with a 5-year, 60 million dollar offer where, we can turn 20 into signing bonus money and spread it out over the life of the contract. Of course, the guaranteed money will have to be in the 30 million range (which, if we stay true to our style, he will be asked to re-work his contract in year 2 to get his base down). This way, we pay an 8 million salary + 4 million signing bonus the first year, give him an additional 14 in signing bonus for year 2, reducing his salary to 4 million in the process. He will have the opportunity to be the highest earning RB in the history of the NFL (ahead of AP, who has earned just over 71 million in 12 years). Bell will have the opportunity to earn more than 80 million in 10 years of playing...if he lasts that long. If he turns it down...I pull the tag and let him walk!
