Caught a Poni/Mueller interview of Iowa football head coach Kirk Ferentz this week, you might be able to find it on the Audacy app. He was brought on to talk about recent Iowa draft picks made by the Steelers.

Dunker: Great guy, great personality, mauler, will be a natural guard in the NFL with the ability to play OT in a pinch

Wetjen: Best return guy he's ever seen, faster than Tim Dwight

Here's where it gets interesting. I've never heard a former college coach give anything but glowing reviews of the guys he coached in spots like this, to the point where you really can't trust them because of their innate bias. And yet...

Kaleb Johnson: Great talent, great kid, but had problems with commitment and focus. Finally put it together his last year at Iowa, thinks he can do the same in the NFL, but mentioned focus issues multiple times.

This guys had better be dialed in at camp, new regime will have no problem cutting the previous one's bad draft picks.

Interesting.

I just thought some of it was Iowa made their runners looked good, helped them out.

He will get his opportunities in camp. I hope he develops always good to have a stacked room.

Yeah, I was a big fan of the pick at the time since I see a lot of Big 10 football, but afraid he might be another Tim Worley.

Who I was also a big fan of when they drafted him.

He will get beat out by an udfa.

With all the changes this off season I’ve lost sight of some of the new coaches.
Who is our ST Coach now?

Wetjen is interesting... look as a WR he will have to be used with a ton of motion...like most small wrs he cant beat press off the snap... but at return he might be really great... he has that balance to take that first hit and not go down and moves to make the first guy miss... if he does north to south returns and doesnt do that east to west stuff to much, he may break down a lot of kick coverages

Yeah I think you send him in motion and it could be a good 4th, short area Jet sweep etc. option.

I believe McCarthy has bigger plans for this kid then returns. Remember a guy who could be completely useless in one offense could get 600-800 yards and 5tds in another. You can't just say well he can't beat press coverage. We'll you can't just press one guy or you'd have done that vs. The Pats slots.
